"A special paper-back guide to help in the choice of Teach Yourself books." - back cover blurb.
"...So it is with A Concise Guide to Teach Yourself. It is not meant just to help you find the book you know you want- though of course it does do that [...] But far more it is meant to introduce you, as agreeably as possible, to the infinite variety of knowledge, the endless things you could learn, and make, and do if life were only long enough." - Preface
Having recently come into a collection of 270 Teach Yourself books, I decided to start with the one that seemed to give the best overview of the series.
It started with a brief history of the TY series, and its importance in making good quality knowledge available and affordable to all. The rest of the book was a list of every title that had already been published (as of 1958), and a paragraph or two about the book. It is as fascinating to see the educational trends of the time as it is to see how prolific a series this was (and continues to be).
Absolutely recommend this to TY fans, as well as those interested in the more recent trends in self-education.
