BUMP: A Wrestling Novel

Rate this book
High school graduate, Chris, disenchanted by the prospect of conventional life in "Squaresville, USA," opts out of college to attend pro-wrestling school. Enter: Ramsay Wrestling Academy, where Chris and a group of like-minded dreamers train for an unlikely chance at fame and fortune.

Dreams do come true, they find, as a staggering string of successes changes the fledgling academy to a small federation almost overnight. Chris and his friends are living their dreams, but to stay on this unlikely trajectory, they're forced to keep topping themselves. Can the Ramsay boys keep satisfying the bloodlust of the diehard fans before the stakes reach life and death? What if they never had a choice in the first place?

BUMP is a novel dealing with subjugation and exploitation in the workplace, and the importance of the free market to the freedom of the people who work in it.

What is your price?
This was a crazy ride. I used to be a wrestling fan back in the day, so I get the allure. I've seen the debut of The Undertaker at a live show in Boston, along with Roddy Piper's bum, so you know I was a fan. This went from a sweet story like Field Of Dreams to a crazy, dark, insane story. I love extreme horror, and was already a huge fan of Sturtevant's brand of wacky, so when this book came out, I grabbed it as soon as I knew. If you're a fan of this author, wait a minute... you'll GET it. As they say in Mortal Kombat, FINISH IT! You'll end up with some food for thought about your own price. I've already reccomended this book to two people, even though I've only just finished. Hempel is, as always, an excellent voice actor.

Absolutely loved this story. I "read" it on Audible and my only qualm was that Geoff didn't narrate it. So, I audialized his voice by summoning my inner Geoff and drawing from the hundreds of stories I have listened to him voice act.
The story started as a sort of feel good story about a boy coming into his own. The characters were relatable and I was interested and excited listening to them choose their "characters", build their confidence, and become a success! The story built and built and I was committed! Rooting for each character and becoming disheartened when one character became a villian. I went through all the emotions and just as the story seemed to be wrapping up, bam! The plot twist "Sixth Sensed" me!
Whew! Thanks for the great time, Geoff.

This story about pro wrestling reads like someone never saw pro wrestling before. Prose was weak and dialogue was so lame and repetitive.

I was introduced to Geoff Sturtevant with a fabulous audiobook called Occupational Hazards: The Blue Collar Omnibus. The book was funny, gory at times and was a collection of short stories unique and refreshingly different.
This book was a fabulous kindle read, one whole novel about a young man's dream to make it big. It was about the friends he made along the way, his boss/coach, his parents and a girlfriend who shared his love of the sport.
The writing was superb, I love the way the author writes his story, with the main character sharing his thoughts and concerns with the reader. This story is for everyone who has worked an honest day for pay and for everyone who has been taken advantage of. What would it take, to get you to say, "That is enough, I am done."
"If you couldn've opened the Task Manager on Ramsay Wrestling just then, it would've shown our brains consuming all the ram."
"The point is, Dad...I'm really good at falling down and stuff without getting hurt. It's a talent."
"What followed was a series of comments that would have made the heavens belch up Betsy and send her blushing into damnation."
"You gotta believe. If you're not going to believe, what's the point in doing this?"
Looking forward to reading more thought-provoking books by this talented writer!

Geoff Sturtevant takes humanity, opens it like a can of Dinty Moore, and lays bare the quaggy contents for our consumption. He does this with a sharp eye for the humor and irony hidden in everyday life.

Wrestling fans will enjoy Bump, no doubt about it. It's a wonderful nod to the sport - nay, the ART - of professional wrestling.

Other readers will enjoy it because it has an interesting storyline, original ideas, and a healthy serving of fun.

Well done!
