Notice: This is a SUMMARY of Yuval Noah Harari’s bestseller, Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.
Sapiens became a #1 international bestseller and a New York Times bestseller for simple reasons… Unlike other macroscopic reviews of human history, Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind combines the best research into history with recent discoveries in biology and archaeology and complementary disciplines of science. It provides a unique point of view on how we got to where we are today – and what that means for us as a species.
Dr. Yuval Noah Harari traces the development of consciousness, above all else. 100,000 years ago Homo Sapiens were an insignificant animal – but today we dominate the planet. At some point, the evolution of thinking superseded biological evolution. Much of our 'success' hinges on the importance of the myths and legends – the fictions of our imagination that have played such a vital role in the development of culture, ideology, religion, economics, science – instead of our pure biological traits.

This book made Sapiens much easier to understand by presenting it in an organized, easier to read form. I was overwhelmed by the entire book but was able to learn so much more in the summary.
I loved this narration on audible. I typically like to "read" aka listen to books with thicker material while at work cause i can always rewind or go back to a chapter. I really appreciated the scientific perspectives about humanity without religious bias and learning the facts and history about sapient. The book begins with more historical scientific facts about the world and evolves into discussions about current social structures and economics. It would be nice to see an addendum about AI and how that is shaping our world. it's crazy how in less than 10 years this book is already out dated with our advancements in technology. The final chapters speak about technology surpasses the abilities of humans and we are already seeing those affects via AI. We are able to use AI to recreate people, write stories, edit media, and so much more. This is a book i would definitely keep on my bookshelf and come back to over and over again.
So this is just a summary and I’m glad I read this first. The author seems entrenched with postmodernism by calling all our institutions a work of fiction. And he seems infatuated with Buddhism. It gave me a good understanding of modern scientific findings of our species. I haven’t been in school for two decades so a lot has changed. I agree that there will be a lot of changes that might make us all a-mortal, which means we can’t die from natural causes.
Carlos Garcia: For being a summary it has great depth and really made me think. I enjoyed the refreshing new point of view of how we are no longer tied to our biological evolutionary realm, instead we can sculpt our own world by the power of our imagination and shared beliefs. I definitely recommend it.
Hey!! Why would i read a long book when this team made a great summary! Worth looking at. This summary has a lot of great points that were discussed in so many videos bu the author. Recommended
Message: our future is dim unless we get a handle on climate change, for starters. This is a master piece written by a polymath and accessible to ordinary humans, not just specialists.
I read this as research into some modern thought/ideas. It was interesting and I’m glad I read the summary and not the whole book. It was a great overview and very well written.
Harari takes you on an incredible journey through the evolution of our species. His interdisciplinary approach and storytelling make it impossible to put this book down. A masterpiece!
It is spectacular summary of a great book. This study of human history changes my point of view with a new perspective, and allows me to better understand future changes in our society.
