I’m sure I’m in the heavy minority when it comes to this book, especially because it’s in the middle damn series but I’m going to give the review anyways.
First of all… their age gap was not that bad 17/18 and 22 yet this man is acting like he’s 40. Now don’t get me wrong. I’m 22 and wouldn’t date an 18 year old but in fiction this kind of age gap is practically nothing.
Second of all… the whole “you need to swore you’re oats before you settle with me” is BS! She’s either never going to give other people and experiences a real try because she’s waiting for him OR she will takes months and months to fully experience being young (possibly even years) and the likely hood of this guys Dick waiting for her is very very small.
The guy seems fine the girl seems fine but it’s just all so blah and awkward that I’m not going to force myself to finish.

I probably did a disservice to the series by starting with this one but I can’t say that I regret the decision.

With every new book I read in this series I find myself falling more and more in love with these Highlanders, but also with Jolie Vines writing.
Gordain and Ellas story was one I had been highly anticipating, and it didn’t disappoint. This one had a bit more of an edge that the others didn’t, and that was probably owing to the fact that Gordain had a seriously hot, dominant side to him that had me weak at the knees. Ella is slightly younger than him and mixed with the fact that G is her older brothers best friend, this story gets very interesting extremely quickly! Don’t tell the others, but Gordain is my favourite so far!!

I really enjoyed this third installment in Jolie Vines’ Marry the Scot series. The hero of this book is Gordain, younger brother of Callum, the male lead in book one. He’s also the tattooed helicopter pilot best friend to James from book two... That is the installment that laid the groundwork for this romance. It is where Gordain met James’ younger sister, Ella, and helped her escape from the clutches of her evil uncle Richard.
As this story begins, Ella is younger than most heroines I usually read about. She is only 17. And at times, this romance straddles a New Adult line. But I am happy to report that she ages three years over the course of the book and by the end, feels like a grown woman.
Both she and Gordain have issues believing they are worthy of love and feel unable to hold onto it. Gordain has some unresolved father issues and Ella has never had a close relationship with anyone in her life. But there is a spark between them from the very beginning and slowly they allow themselves to acknowledge there is much more beneath the surface.
We get to spend a lot of time with the secondary cast of characters who we have gotten to know from previous books and that is always a treat. We also see brothers Ally and Wasp growing up, thanks to the expense of time over which the book progresses. As always, Vines has a deft hand with love scenes and paints a love story with characters who are hopeful, yet vulnerable.
A Sweet, satisfying love story.

I will finally admit that when I first started this series, I was chomping at the bit for Gordain's story. A sexy tattooed helicopter pilot? Seriously! In the 2nd book, Love Most Say Least, we meet Ella and I instantly fell in love with her, so the two of them together? Yeah, it's that good. This book picks right up where Love Most Say Least lets off and I was instantly sucked into this world once more. A world I didn't want to leave. Gordain was absolutely everything I needed him to be. Strong, sexy, PIERCED!, brave, but most of all, Ella's hero. But she was no damsel in distress. Ella who begins the book at 17 before turning 18 really comes into her own. She exuded a confidence I wish I possessed when I was her age and because of that, she was a perfect counterpart to Gordain. All I know is that I love this series and I seriously need the twins to come asap! An absolute Must-Read by the amazingly talented Jolie Vines! She's my new favorite one-click author!

Give me Drama and a big Scottish man and you get me.
But I do have to say that this one didn’t got me quite as much as the first.
I can’t really say what it was.

lol this was because of booktok via instagram reels, hence reading the 3rd book in a series first? I wanted to read something smutty and that's the job it did. The writing felt very wattpad and I don't think I will be reading the other books in the series.

5 Cranky Stars
I don’t usually like love stories, but this isn’t a mushy love story. There is action, and suspense mixed in with the romance. I got hooked on this series with the very first book. A Scottish Laird meets the daughter of a rich British businessman and the fireworks begin with Book 1. In Book 2, his protege, a British Lord falls for her best friend. This book is about the younger brother of the Scottish Laird, Gordain who just happens to fall for the British Lord’s sister. That same British Lord is Gordain’s best friend. You really need to start with Book 1, and it won’t be too confusing.
Gordain has been in the RAF since he was 16 yrs. old. He has finally reached his goal of attending search and rescue helicopter school. However, something happened to call his character in question, and he is on leave for investigation. At the end of Book 2, he rescued James’ sister from her uncle, and he fell in love. The major problem, Ella is 17 and he is 22. In Gordain’s mind, that is a huge gap. Little does he know, she is in love with him but due to her early life, she doesn’t know how to give or receive love.
Then there is the question of the vile uncle who has made life miserable for everyone. He is officially her guardian until she turns 21. He is burning through her money for his own nefarious ways. The interactions of all these characters keep you on the edge of your seat. Will Ella’s brother be able to break the guardianship contract and take it over? There is also lots of drama with her brother, his wife Beth and the new baby due to be born any day. I can’t wait for the next two books in this series.

Hero (Marry the Scot #3) by Jolie Vines is a slow burn, new adult, contemporary highlander romance told in first person, dual POV. Although it's the third book in the Marry the Scot series, it can be read as a standalone. I'd recommend reading the entire series though, because each book contains a wonderfully well-written love story and the characters reappear in future books.
Hero begins with a closer look into a scene from the previous book, Love Most, Say Least , where Ella and Gordain meet for the first time when he comes to her rescue. They have an instant, electrifying attraction which neither of them act upon at first. At the time, Ella is almost 18-years-old and four years younger than Gordain. He attempts to keep his distance because not only is she too young, but she's his best friend's sister. As threats are revealed, Gordain and Ella join forces to overcome the obstacles together, each coming to the rescue of the other.
I'd been looking forward to Gordain and Ella's story and was not at all disappointed. Both were very likeable and realistic characters who had endured the pain caused by traumatic childhood experiences. I loved how they fought to overcome their demons - both internally and externally - and each became the other's hero. Emotional, sexy, romantic, and suspenseful - I loved this story and look forward to the next book in the series.

I really loved Gordain. I sometimes had to remind myself that he is only 22 🙈 He is so mature for his age. But sure, he joined the Air Force when he was 16... And like all the McRae's he is hot as heII 🥵 a real highlander/mountain man 🥵 He is so protective but he is also so insecure. With this kind of father he had, it's no wonder... 😔
Ella is so cute. And her dream about her hero who rescues her with a helicopter 😉 But she is so young and so extremely unexpired about everything. What, again, isn't a surprise with her story... I already hated her uncle (Richard) in book one 🤬 This creature... I don't have words for him 🤬
Gordain is a real hero. And he showed it more than once in this book 🩷
There is so much tension between Gordain and Ella, but they need so long to admit it. Gordain always thinks Ella is too young to love 🙈 I think it's because of his insecurity. But the love he feels for Ella is indescribable.
My personal hero in this book is Mrs. Hinchcliffe 🙈 Yes, I confess it. I generally love the Hinchcliffs (they are the housekeepers of Belvedere, the Fitzroy's family home). But they are also like grandparents for James and Ella. And what she did (even though it wasn't intended) was very satisfying for me 🙈 I know, I know, it's not OK to think something like that, but hey, it's a book, right? 😉
This isn't the last book of this series, but I currently don't have the other books, so I have to wait until July, but then I'll read the rest. Until then I have 3 books of the third series of the McRae's. And I can't wait to read them. Again, when you read this review, I've already read the three books 😎

Better than expected. I got this book after an ad or recommendation from Facebook. At the time of downloading I was unaware that this book was part of a series, but I dove in anyway. I enjoyed the characters and story line very much.

Ohh, we finally got to see Gordain in action! I think I've been waiting for his story ever since we met him in Storm the Castle. He might be my favorite McRae brother, though Ally and Wasp give him a run for his money.
Hero is a swoony romance that takes us from a beautiful English country estate to the Highlands of Scotland, to NYC and back again (with a stop in between that I can't mention because it would be a spoiler!). I enjoyed Ella and Gordain's developing relationship - both the "making eyes at each other" AND the "tear off each other's clothes" phase! Their devotion and passion pulled me through the story *so fast*!
Now I'm impatiently waiting for Wasp's book - I just know it'll be another sizzling story from Jolie Vines.

In one word, Gourdain. That is really all you need to know about Jolie Vines’s newest book, Hero. Hero is the third book in her Marry the Scots series, and, thus far, it is this reader’s favorite.
This book begins with a moment from Vines’s second book, Love Most, Say Least (by the way, another great book in this series), when Gourdain, James’s (the hero from LMSL) best friend and a military pilot, saves James’s sister, Ella, from their raving uncle. From the moment, there is a driving, intense chemistry between the two. However, there are a couple of issues: (1) Ella is his best friend’s sister and (2) Ella is younger than Gourdain (her 17 to his 22). For most of the first part of this story, these two engage in the unrequited dance of chemistry, as Ella doubts that Gourdain could be attracted to her and Gourdan struggles with a personal crisis and issues related to this past (not to mention his worry over her age). However, as in any good romance, that dance turns into something more, and the two must make a choice about their future together.
Gourdain. For me, he is the highlight of this book. He is handsome (always a plus), a sexy Scottish Highlander (who doesn’t love a man in a kilt), ruggedly capable in most situations (he seems to save everyone), and he’s broken, the hallmark of a well-written hero (at least to me). Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely love Ella’s character in this book. She has a wisdom and grit about her that it never really feels like you are reading a 17/18-year-old heroine. She easily matches Gourdain, who also has a worldliness about him. But it’s Gourdain’s struggle with himself that provides the true depth to this book. He can be frustrating at times because he makes choices counter to his heart, and it causes issues between him and Ella. However, he comes to the rescue when it’s needed and redeems himself within the story. He’s kind, broody, so sexy, and incredibly capable, even when he wraps himself in his head. If you love swoony, broken heroes, then you absolutely need to read Hero.
Ella and Gourdain are very much alike, even though they don’t see it initially. Yes, there is an age difference and potential issue as Gourdain is Ella’s brother’s best friend. Yet, Vines doesn’t write the “forbidden best friend’s sister” trope here. She only teases at it. Instead, this story is one about overcoming one’s past to find one’s future. Ella and Gourdain are alike in that they have been seeking after love, deprived them by the “father figures” in their life. Both have had to grow up quickly in the absence of love and care, and this causes brokenness that is only found whole in each other. For me, this revelation is the beauty of Vines’s story and the reason that it sits currently as my favorite of this series. Two broken parts coming together makes for an angsty, heartwarming romance.
Thankfully, there are two more forthcoming books in this series, of which I cannot wait to read. Jolie Vines is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors because she creates heroes whose angst comes from within, but it doesn’t keep them from loving the heroine of the story. Oftentimes, authors create too much tension between the hero and heroine in the rising action of a romance, and, for me, it seems unnecessary, as there are other areas where complexity can be built into the story. A hero denying his love for most of the story can be as much an overwrought trope as a specific genre of romance. But this is not the impression derived from Vines’s stories. She allows the hero to love the heroine, to be consumed by them. The strife comes from outside the relationship, and the hero and heroine fight together as a couple against it. This is the power of Vines’s story-telling, and it’s the reason that you should read her books, namely Hero.

She allows the hero to love the heroine, to be consumed by them. The strife comes from outside the relationship, and the hero and heroine fight together as a couple against it. This is the power of Vines’s story-telling, and it’s the reason that you should read her books, namely Hero.

omg. this is embarrassing to have show up in my good reads feed....buuuuuut....
sometimes you just need a nice couple hundred pager of someone getting absolutely railed by a gorgeous gorgeous man. And have there be a cheesy but deep emotional connection.
But can I just say?! What I loved about this book was that it didn't follow the typical tropes like you might think: the two characters got married for love, and admitted their feelings (and love) for each other before getting married. It was a nice refreshing twist.

Mrs Hinchcliffe is the true hero of this story!
Ella's ready to move on to university and claim as much freedom as possible, but the only way she can get out from under her abusive uncle's guardianship before she's thirty is if she gets married. Who better than her brother's best friend, a man who rescued her once and still sets her heart on fire each time they meet?
I loved the slow yet sensual progression of their romance. The timing of each step was exquisite, and felt so right for these characters. This isn't your usual fake marriage of convenience story. Despite the immediacy of the problem, these characters don't go for the obvious shortcut, knowing the long-term costs are quite complicated. What we do get is a friendship that sees both Gordain and Ella building each other up, playing hero (and heroine) when necessary, all while realizing that falling in love cannot, and should not, be avoided.
The threat hanging over both Ella and her brother, James, is dealt with once and for all (hence my review's title) and we are given a front-row seat for the expansion of both the Fitzroy and McRae families. The twins with the twins was especially adorable, and the real estate scene was satisfyingly triumphant. The HEA was a long time coming - really, since this series began - and it was masterfully done, bringing the McRae clan full circle. This story is an amazing work of art, highly recommended for anyone looking for a modern-day Highlander to swoon over. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Jolie Vines is a relatively new author to me and I am new to narrator Fergus Ryan whose performance I really enjoyed. From the first chapter until the last I was hooked and was annoyed when real life got in the way of my listening.
I really enjoyed this book and although the haven’t read the previous books in the series, I had no trouble; reading this one as a stand alone. This is Gordain and Ella’s story and it was a captivating one. Gordain is best friend’s with Ella’ brother James and he comes to her rescue when James asks him to help Ella escape from their evil uncle Richard.
I’m not a huge fan of New Adult stories and although Ella is only 17 at the beginning of the book, by the time it ends a number of years have passed which I have to say pleased me.
Both Ella and Gordain have baggage and issues with neither really believing that they are worthy of love. However as the book develops, it is obvious that these two really are meant to be. The secondary characters were entertaining and as soon as time permits I will be looking at the other books in this series.
Ella turned in to a confident and feisty young and really came into her own. I really liked the dominating side of Gordain and truth be told I could have listened to Fergus Ryan all day and night.

Jolie has truly outdone herself with “Hero”. I wish it were possible to give this book 6 stars but alas, 5 stars will have to suffice. It’s no secret to anyone that the entire Marry the Scot series has completely changed my mind on the entire romance genre and contemporaries to be honest. With each book in the series Jolie has grown the complexity of the story and its characters -each more vibrant and lovable than the one before it. Gordain and Ella’s lives have been so heartbreaking but the way they grow and heal one another is so incredible. I cannot finds the proper words to express my appreciation for real characters with flaws that are REAL. It’s just such a beautiful representation of a healthy relationship. If you have gotten this far in this review and are still unsure about whether or not to pick up this book... just do it! Take the risk! Find hope and love and healing in the highlands of Scotland!

I was hooked! Great adventure with a bona fide villain (even two or three), and a braw Scottish hero with a hankering to rescue. Both romantic leads have been wronged and find passion and understanding in each other's arms. The hero is a walking, flying wet dream who resists due to the heroine's youth. Yes, she is only 18, but he's barely four years older! Plenty of drama, heaps of 🔥heat, and two souls who live for each other through difficulty -- exciting stuff!😯
The writing is good, although the pace did lag a bit in the middle, but with an adrenaline-rush climax and joyful ending. 😊

This book starts off with Ella and Gordain’s version of the events that happened in the second book. She’s always viewed him as her hero and he can’t remember a night that may cost him everything. He does everything to steer clear of Ella and pushes her away but when both have been in love from that very first meeting, they can’t stay away forever. A chance encounter leads to Gordain seeing the errors of his way and final sets out to make Ella his. Yet her uncle Richard whom gave James so much trouble in the last book, still has his plans for Ella. Danger lurks when Richard appears and two accidents lead to one persons death and one person seriously injured. A must read to see where they all end up. I look forward to the remaining two McRae brothers books. Read through Kindle Unlimited

Hero by Jolie Vine is book Three in the Marry the Scot Series. This is the story of Gordain and Ella. This can be a standalone book if you wish to do so but characters from the previous book and this book did make appears through the series.
Ella has escape the harsh Uncle that was keeping her...or so she thought. Ella just wanted freedom to go to college and to be happy. But even after being saved her Uncle is giving up and the only true way to be free of him is marriage. Gordain who is a little older than Ella (about 5 years) is a feeling unworthy of love not to mention that Ella is the sister of his best friend. So he tries to stay away from her as much as he can. Ella knows that if she has to enter into a fake marriage the only person she trust enough would be Gordain but would he agree?

Gordain really is a hero, he swooped in and saved Ella when the dastardly dick was going crazy in her and James house, but now Gordain is avoiding her and when Ella asks him to marry her yeah that doesn't go as planned. At times I just want to shake some sense into these two as everyone knows they are meant to be together, but then I also understand Gordain's hesitation about Ella's age but also the other strife going on in his life. You are on the edge of your seat hoping the lawyers find away for Ella to get access to her money but there are twists you don't see coming as well as an undeniable attraction between them if only they were really honest with their feelings. I floved the book ripping part in the apartment as well as the declaration Gordain makes at the chapel... swoon. And then there is the ending.... well all I can say is god bless Mrs Hinchcliffe and her great timing! 🤭

Do you believe in love at first sight? The book, Hero, is the third book in Jolie Vines’ Marry the Scots series. This is the best book of the series so far! Gordain is called on by his best friend, James, to rescue his sister, Ella and sparks fly between the two, however, Gordain has been awarded a spot to train in an elite search and rescue course. Ella is heading to the university to study music. Soon, their worlds meet again when Ella asks Gordain for his help. Will he be able to provide the help she needs or is she asking for too much. I thoroughly enjoyed Jolie Vines’ books! They have adventure, suspense, wonderful characters, and the Scottish highlands! You won’t be disappointed; and, I can’t wait for the next book!!

I absolutely LOVED this book!! Each book in this series just keeps getting better. I love how all of the characters keep making appearances in each of the books.
Gordain and Ella's journey starts when Ella's brother James sends Gordian to rescue her. Ella's evil Uncle Richard is at it again trying to tear apart the Fitzroy family. Ella has a plan to take out her Uncle if she can convince Gordain to help her.
The book is full of suspense, family, fun, love, and heat! The emotion that Jolie brings to her books is what keeps me coming back for more. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
