“I’ll deal. Will we be fretting on the dance floor?”
I laughed. “Maybe.” Because when my body was in Paul’s hands, I knew no restraint.
“You know, I hadn’t pegged you as an exhibitionist when we met. I like it.”
Chuckling, I said, “I am pretty much shameless if you haven’t divined that by now. And it’s all your fault.”
“I’m happy to take the blame for sexy times.” He stroked my cheek. “Worth it.” — Paul and Ryan
Warnings: harassment (?), exhibitionism
This feels so complete and enjoyable. It does manage to balance smut and character even if it does lean on tropes. Though it must be said that Paul's parents Burt and Marge are far from tropey and I love them. Marge in particular made me laugh, every time she was on the page I lit up. I do like a good mother in MM and not only is Marge good she is unusual. I will not spoil her for you, just know I think this is worth reading for her alone. I enjoyed the dynamic between the leading men. Ryan Siebol runs a bar and works largely 16-18 hour days at night and has recently been burned by a bad breakup leaving him with trust issues and emotional scars. Paul Grayling is a police officer and Ryan's next door neighbour, Ryan instantly caught his attention and neighbourhood gossip did the rest. Paul's similar shifts to Ryan gives him some sympathy for Ryan's plight when it comes to finding a good man. Their dynamic is a mix of care and spice, they have elements of exhibitionism Ryan loves the feel of PAul's hands on him and does not care who sees. There is a very public moment in Ryan's bar, on the dance floor that I appreciate, it suits them.
I'm not a huge fan of the title. Subduing Ryan gives vibes that I feel the book doesn't quite deserve, vibes that seem to e reflected in the cover. I feel both gave slight BDSM vibes there is none of that here, the only kink is exhibitionism. Ryan is the one being chased yes but Paul gives him the space he needs to prepare emotionally even if they are exceptionally hot and heavy from the first time they act on their chemistry. I gave a warning for potential harassment, that is Andrew Morris wanting his ex, Ryan back. He wants Ryan for as much or as little as he can get him, be that 2 minutes in a toilet stall, a night or a complete second chance. Andrew is the root source of much of the story's angst though not so much his harassment as the lasting effect he has had on Ryan's personality.
