My curiosity is now piqued! Interesting and intriguing discoveries, internal government debates, sinister corporations’ astounding and shocking secrets, this premise takes off towards a promising series. The high tech involved is well described and understandable for someone like me. Lol. The characters are well defined, with an incredible AI, he’s so likeable even in his grumpiness! It has captured me enough to follow it with A Spacetime Tale #2!

I am one of the lucky readers who has had the privilege to read not only Starscraper, but also the first novel in J. Benjamin's series, A Spacetime Tale. Starscraper introduces the reader to a world in the not-too-distant future. You find yourself transported between the streets of Sally Ride City, California, near present day San Francisco, and the farthest reaches of space. You go on journeys of the mind, quite literally, and find yourself questioning the nature of reality, the universe, and of course the much more grounded themes such as local politics. I absolutely recommend getting started with this book, and getting your hands on A Spacetime Tale, the main event, when it is released!

The following is my impression of the book which I did finish:
1, The book was short.
2. The book had multiple threads of activity.
3. The book had a great deal of political undercurrents.
4. The book had some science fiction basis.
5. The book had some budding romance. (Though as a 76 year old I have to say that the lack of explicit sex scenes was good).
6. The book left you wondering what was coming next.

All this is good. The writing was solid and no glaring typos were noted.
Overall good story.

Interesting story, characters well defined, even the grumpy AI, so that when the book ends, I want to go to the next book. This is really an intro to A Spacetime Tale. The story involves orbiting space city/memory bank(?), Earth, far system space and a meglomaniac, who I really want to get to know better. No spoilers, but the main character is so well drawn that you want to get the next book just to hear her tale. Well worth the read.

No Spoilers and the synopsis is above.
This is A nice introduction to what should be a great new sci fi universe. It’s a smart book with a well developed plot and story and enough world building to spark my curiosity.
Well developed characters (human and AI). Technology that doesn’t seem to far away, politics and interpersonal relationships.... All the characters are three dimensional and the novella gives just enough to make you want to read the series that is sure to follow.

The best compliment I can give ‘Starscraper’ is that sci-fi is not my usual genre but I was completely engrossed in this fast paced prequel to ‘A Spacetime Tale’. The characters are developed well enough in a short time that I am very interested in events to follow. The technology available to the space travelers and scientists is quite futuristic yet believable. A ‘well done’ to this first time author!

I love reading science fiction. This fast-paced novella is top notch with a little romance thrown in. It grabs you from the beginning, & you don’t want to put it down. I enjoyed the banter between Val & Starscraper. I also appreciated the strong female characters.
I look forward to reading “A Spacetime Tale” next in the series.

This story reminded me of early Jack McDevitt exploration novels, which I loved. This has the same sense of wonder and you enjoy being along for the ride.
The characters and interaction between them are good too. The AI is particularly enjoyable, as others have mentioned.
I thoroughly recommend this and I'm definitely look forward to reading "A Spacetime Tale".

Interesting, well-written, and full of juicy science fiction that doesn't oversimplify or get dumbed down. If you're looking to get plugged into a new world of sci-fi and futurism, start here. This introduction to the 'Spacetime' universe is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and hungry for more. In other words... this is a good story. Read it.

I personally felt the beginning was a bit slow but once I became used to the style I enjoyed the story.

Love the grumpy AI. Characters don't just spring out in the book but develop as if you had met them.

The background with Earth and space is nicely done.

The prequel to a new series that gives you a taste and leaves you wanting more. More to read that is. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because it was too short. Wanted to learn more about everybody. Especially loved the grumpy AI. Looking forward to the next book.

Very good read. Sets the opening stages for a lot more to come from J. Benjamin! Can't wait to see what's next! It's a short ebook, so it shouldn't take too long to get through. I just had a lot of "life" happening. But it was always calling me back. You know those are the better stories!

Book 1 had errors throughout and was hard to follow in parts of the book. The overall plot was well done and the characters were fun. The plot had a lot going on and was at times was hard to follow.
