Waking up after being in a coma for six months due to a car accident, Marcy Edmond, once overweight and insecure, discovers that she has been transformed into a beautiful woman and given a new lease on life, but someone is obsessed with her newfound beauty and the need to kill, in the first volume in a new romantic suspense trilogy. Original.
Hunter Morgan writes chilling suspense with romantic elements in small town settings. She appeals to fans of Melinda Leigh, Loreth Anne White, Skye Jordan and Mary Burton.
This one is really boring and takes forever to draw you into the story. You don't even get a chance to know Marcy before the accident, except to know that she is fat, her teenage daughter is embarrassed to be seen with her and she's having marital problems. There is no connection to any of the characters and they are all one dimensional. Except Claire, the Chief of Police, who is investigating the Bloodsucker, a serial killer targeting blond women.
Since this is the first book in a trilogy, I must assume that Claire is actually the main character since the serial killer works throughout the three books. This is actually a good thing because if the remaining books centered around Marcy and her family, I would not be reading them. With Claire as the main character, they should be okay.
After about 150 pages, I finally got hooked and had to see who the serial killer was and how Marcy was going to adjust to her new face and deal with her husband. The book redeemed itself a little (3 stars instead of 2) with the ending but it was tough getting there.
If you are a fat girl like Marcy you always think things would be perfect if you could just be thin and beautiful. It was even worse for Marcy because her twin sister Phoebe is thin and beautiful. Then after a horrific car wreck that leaves Marcy in a coma for 6 months, her dream comes true. Now her life will be perfect. But is it? Marcy lives in Albany Beach, Delaware (take note Literary Escapes Challenge members because Delaware is a difficult state to find) where a serial killer of blue eyed blondes is loose. I really liked this book. In fact I loved it. The characters were well developed and likable. There was enough suspense to keep me reading and keep my heart pounding. So why did I not give it 5 stars? It is not a stand-alone novel, at least not if you really want to know who dunnit. The killer is still on the loose at the end of the book. Luckily I was able to check out book 2, She’ll Never Know, from my local library so I can immediately continue the story.
Marcy Edmond was in a horrible car accident that left her in a coma for 6 months. When she awakes she discovers that plastic surgeons have had to reconstruct her face and she has lost over 60 pounds. Transforming her from the ugly duckling she once had been into a beautiful swan she always wanted to be. In her small town, everyone knows of Marcy’s miraculous recovery but she is not used to all the attention. When Marcy returns home she finds that her twin sister has moved in with her family and has been helping to take care of her kids while she was in her coma. While she knows that she should be grateful to her sister, there is just something nagging her about it, something she doesn’t like about it. Marcy is struggling with her transition back in to her old life, one that she was missable in before the accident. Now, she is a whole new person, she could start over. Is that what she really wants?
“Marcy pushed a lock of blond hair behind her ear. As she did so, she caught a reflection of her image in the window of a parked car. The woman looking back at her truly was beautiful. But it didn't feel the way she always dreamed it would. All these years she had believed her unhappiness and discontent was due to the way she looked. A notion suddenly struck her. What if that hadn't been it at all?”
There is someone else who has noticed Marcy’s transformation.
“The Bloodsucker walked farther up the beach, unnoticed by the swan and her husband. Past the old man sitting in the lawn chair, drinking coffee laced with brandy, holding a surf rod. It was like he was invisible. They saw him, yet they didn't. And even if they did make eye contact, he would just smile. Wave. No one knew who he was because everyone knew who he was. That was the best part about it all. The swan knew him, just as Patti had.” “Who would have thought she would ever be so beautiful? The Bloodsucker wanted her now. He was sure of it. He would just have to be patient”
There is a killer hunting their little town and his sights have been set on Marcy.
I actually rate this one 3.5 stars. It was a good thriller and I enjoyed the romantic aspect with Marcy and her husband, however I feel like the sister issues and the serial killer were too much. I understand that this is part of a series where the killer will not be identified until the final book so there is much more that I have not read yet I am looking forward to it. This would have been a great read as a stand-alone without the serial killer as well. Written in several points of view, I feel that having some type of divider between the character changes would have created a transition that was easier to follow. Overall, this was a good book that I did enjoy reading, a fast read. For older audiences, as there is bad language and sexual references and situations. It kept me guessing and trying to figure out who the killer is. I have my theory on who it could be but I guess I will just have to keep reading to find out if I’m right.
I borrowed She'll Never Tell from the Kindle Unlimited program.
In She'll Never Tell the small beach town of Albany Beach, Delaware has its first murder in over fifty years. A local waitress and party girl is found beside a dumpster in the park; she is dead and has been bleed out at another location.
Marcy Edmond a local mother of two in a happy marriage has been a coma since her new mini van ran off the road in late fall. She wakes up in the hospital after six months and she is in for a shock. Her face was rebuilt by plastic surgeons to look like her beautiful twin sister and she has dropped over sixty pounds.
Her twin sister, Phoebe is living with her family and has taken over the roll as the mother. Marcy has some issues to get straight in her head to get her life back together. She realizes that life is too short to not make the most of all the happy times and work for what she wants from life.
She also has some hard truths to face when it comes to her sister. She also has a creepy feeling like someone is watching her at odd times in town and when she is home alone or out jogging. A second murder of a tourist adds to the tension in the small town.
All this time a man the author refers to as the 'Bloodsucker' is watching the ugly duckling sister that has turned into a swan.
The romance between Jake and Marcy has a difficult time as they each learn to appreciate each other and their family again. The unsolved serial killer is still tracking his next victim as the Chief of Police, Claire works hard to find him, as he hides in plain sight.
This novel is a cutting edge thriller, were family members who kill to be each other now that the hurt of the past is showing we will know for real how everyone feels. In this book, we learn that beauty isn’t always everything in life. Are the accidents that are happening really accidents?” I received a copy of this book from eBook Discovery. This book is one of my favorites because it gave me chills and has more suspense i never expected. Maybe because of how the author precisely put the details of every scene. This is one of the reasons why i am more interested in crimes and investigations and the why i want to pursue forensics ever since.
I wasn’t sure about this one at first. The main character’ self-loathing was a bit much to swallow. As I got further along in the book, I realized how much I liked the twists that the author offered.
This was was slow in the beginning, but it did eventually suck me in and have me reading it every chance I got. I’m curious to see if the second book in this trio loft draws you in from the beginning better.
This was fine. Just a basic mystery book and it was really not that crazy. It also ended with no twist and there was no fun to the story. When you think it’s getting crazy and he’s about to take the girl it doesn’t even happen. Not to mention that the plot twist is soooo obvious from the start.
This drew me in and held my attention up until the end when I thought, “there needs to be more! Don’t leave me hanging.” It took me less than a minute to remember that this is book 1 in a trilogy. On to #2!!!
Compelling story loaded with soul searching and suspense. Great job! I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
The author did not tell you who was doing the murders; but I was able to figure it out by the person's occupation. So we are left dangling until then next book in this series.
This was generally a well-written, interesting and suspenseful book, I particularly liked the main characters who were well-defined, fleshed-out and believable, although some of the minor characters were a bit sketchy and because of this their motives for some of their actions was unclear. The plot was clever and quite original with two parallel story lines, and I liked that the psychological effects of beauty and intelligence were explored. There were some silly errors in the text, confusing carbon monoxide with carbon dioxide for example. However I am afraid that it ended with one of my biggest bug-bears about books, a 'hanging' ending, so although there was 'happy for now' ending to this story, the murderer is not identified or caught and apparently the other 2 books in the trilogy need to be read to find out who it is, this is unforgivable to me, and based purely on that fact I am really glad that I didn't pay for it as I received a copy of this book from e-book discovery. If you love shocking twists and turns, she'll enjoy the first romantic suspense/thriller with a scary serial killer called the Bloodsucker. But we're introduced to Marcy's life, before and after her car accident. Six months later, she's transformed with a new life and look to pick up the pieces with her family and deal with her twin sister, Phoebe. Meanwhile, while she recovers from her injuries and insecurities, there's the Bloodsucker out there, who's setting his sights for specific victims and one in particular. Police Chief Claire Drummond is on the hunt for a serial killer and tackles her job too as a single mom. We don't know the real identity of the serial killer until the next two books in the series. So we'll keep guessing who he might be. This is more thriller and very little romantic suspense though.
I found this first book in the series to be a better read than the middle one I read a few years back. Maybe I should go back and re-read the middle one after now having some background on the villain. What I don't recall is how one book ties in with the other, although it may have to do with the victims all being blonde, blue-eyed and beautiful. Either way, this was a fairly quick read.
This is my 3rd read of this series. And I’m glad it’s still just as good as when I last read it 12 years ago. Fantastic suspense and a nice cliffhanger making you read the other 2 in the bloodsucker series
Super freaky and incredible, this book will twist and turn your mind until you just cannot believe where you end up. Fascinating though. A definite page-turner
I liked this book quite a lot. It’s a little silly how she all of a sudden became beautiful, and there were a few grammatical errors, but over all, I really enjoyed it.
