Mindfulness Made Easy

The book breaks down the concept of Mindfulness in an easy to understand format. It gives exercises to help the reader create a sense of mindfulness. The exercises were simple and varied. I also like the way the chapters breakdown the way that mindfulness can help readers cope with so many everyday situations. Loved it.

Simple truths for a better world

I really enjoyed this book. Although the concepts of mindfulness and appreciating life in the moment are simple, the author walks us through integrating this approach in all aspects of our lives as the books progresses. Hence, I never felt like everything was said in the first third of the book and then repeated over and over as can be the case in self help books. I am looking forward to integrating the suggested exercises into my life.

Not only was Mindfulness terrific on its own, but the author also included a free bonus book too, called 10-Minute Focus: 25 Habits for Mastering Your Concentration and Eliminating Distractions, which is also superb.

But back to Mindfulness: it had a professional style and included numerous studies to back up the claims made about the various benefits of mindfulness, yet it was also quite easily read and felt personal as well. Mindfulness can benefit everyone, no matter what their lot in life or their predispositions on the happiness scale. There were countless tips and ideas for incorporating mindfulness practices into every day life, while at the same time it was pointed out again and again that mindfulness is not a magic bandaid and there is no avoiding unhappiness, anger, stress, sorrow, etc., but the best way through these feelings is to accept them and know that all feelings are fleeting. Likewise critical inner voices must be acknowledged and accepted, not ignored if they are to be overcome. This book was a realistic, heartfelt guide for making the most of life by actually experiencing it and choosing our own reactions and actions instead of hoping for the best and trying to ignore or postpone the difficult moments.

Having already experienced the benefits of mindfulness in my personal life, I was expecting to enjoy reading more about it, but this book was much more brilliant than I had hoped. I can warmly recommend it and will be purchasing copies to give to my family and friends.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Mindfulness definitely seems to be a buzzword these days. This book attempts to define it and help you use it to help your life, both dealing with the negatives and cultivating the positives. The book is relatively simple and straightforward beginning with the definition of mindfulness, some simple exercises, and meditation information and techniques. The first section after that goes into detail about destructive negatives, like stress, anger, and anxiety, that mindfulness could potentially help with. The next section looks at how mindfulness can be used to help build better habits (or beat bad ones), relationships, and perhaps a better life. Both of these practical sections have a little article about the topic and include mindfulness exercises that the author believes will help. One tiny little thing bugged me. The author clearly states at the beginning that mindfulness is not meditation, yet she includes meditation in the subtitle, perhaps making the potential reader think that meditation is the only way that mindfulness can be achieved or that this book is only about mindfulness through meditation. As noted above, meditation does have its own chapter, but the exercises in the rest of the book don't focus on meditation.

I think this is a solid introduction to mindfulness that contains simple, practical exercises could be helpful if you have issues like I mentioned above.

Review of Mindfulness: The Remarkable Truth Behind Meditation and Being Present in Your Life by
Olivia Telford

This is a really good book on mindfulness. It will be especially useful for anyone who is new to mindfulness and meditation and wants to explore the different kinds of meditation.
What I liked best about the book is that Olivia gives many tips on how to apply mindfulness in daily life.
My favorite chapter is the one on procrastination.
On the whole, I recommend this book, especially to anyone who wants a good overview of meditation and advice on how to apply mindfulness.
I do wish Olivia had included details of TWIM as taught by Bhante Vimalaramsi (Dhamma Sukha).

Good and practical read

I didn’t learn anything new. I’ve read a lot about mindfulness and consciousness and Buddhism. But I thoroughly enjoyed reading this quick book with some practical ways to be mindful. I highly recommend to those just getting started or to those who want to know more about it. It helped to re-center me during this pandemic.

This contains many great examples of meditations and self-talk exercises along with guides on being more positive in every day experiences. This book could easily be read in a sitting of two, but I set it aside to read a couple of other books and took too long to get back to it.
I look forward to reading more Olivia Telford and bringing more peaceful thinking into my life.

This was a very insightful book. Not only did it delve into the root of meditation and mindfulness, but it gave simple ways to incorporate it into everyday life along with the benefits of both. If you have thought about, currently doing, or previously have done meditation you will benefit greatly from the contents of the book. Olivia Telford did a great job on conveying the foundation, benefits, and implementation of meditation while clarifying the difference between the two without overwhelming readers with details.

This book might be useful for those who are completely new to the concept of mindfulness. There were some good exercises in here that could help. But I felt like a lot of it was repetitive because the entire first chapter and a good portion of the rest of the book seemed to be focused on convincing the reader that mindfulness could help. I already know its value and wanted new strategies.

This is a book that I will be reading again and again. While not a huge textbook it provides a terrific overview of the subject of mindfulness. It quotes studies and provides chapters about the benefits of mindfulness without overloading the reader with statistics. I have by no means used all the exercises, but the ones that I have have been well described and helpful. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking into this subject.

This had great methods and explanations on how to calm yourself down. That's how I am calling it! As a society, we are used to always moving and needing to do something. This has a great way of explaining how to help ourselves relax so we can continue moving for the things that need to be done. This can help depression, your moods, emotions, relationships, and everything else.

This was a fairly quick read but is full of eye-opening information and exercises regarding meditation and “mindfulness”. Even someone like me who has a hard time with clearing the mind to meditate can get something from this. I found myself automatically paying more attention to my body and how everything was feeling after reading one exercise on body scanning. It’s a great read for anyone who doesn’t quite get it or just wants a fresh way of looking at the subject.

She covers many situations of where it could be incorporated to lead a mindful life to overcome mental barriers in this time of heightened mental health concerns. It will be an effective starting point to bridge these ideals into your life and where to start looking into the concept.
