The Wasteland Chronicles: The Post-Apocalyptic Box Set

I'm Kyle West, author of the Wasteland Chronicles, Xenoworld Saga, Starsea Cycle, and more. I try to write books with lots of action and crazy twists to keep you turning the pages. Every book of mine can be categorized as "science fantasy," blending elements from both genres.

I’m clumping this together bc I don’t feel like doing every individual book but it was a solid 3 stars all the way through so not horrible but bruh. That ending just wasn’t it and made it 2.

Apocalypse #1 – Origins #2 – Evolution #3 – Revelation #4 – Darkness #5 – Extinction #6 – Xenofall #7
After a slow beginning, the story began to pick up speed, capturing my interest and imagination. I believe the turning point was when our adventurers journeyed to Nova Roma, “New Rome”, meeting Emperor Agustus. The action escalated to a whole new adventure. The main plotline of the Xeno Virus, the Great Blight, and the coming invasion of the Xenos’ came to fruition. The prior explanation of the bunkers and the backgrounds of the characters came together to make more sense, fitting in with the whole of the story. New and old characters, such as The Voice, Karen Black of The Reapers in Los Angeles, Marcus and The Exiles, Char and The Raiders, and The New Angels, gaining importance. The world was going to need fighters when Xenofall came. We receive a long explanation by The Wanderer, known as Askalon, about Xenominds, Elokia, and Radiskins. What remains is the familiar story of creation and the age-old battle of good versus evil; moral versus amoral. To stop the Radiskin, Eskowa, and the Xenomind would have to be infected with the Elokia virus. This plot arc remains throughout the rest of the series. I was confused by the oddity that a character was killed in one book, and reappeared in the next. Other than that, and the exceeding length of the series, it’s not a bad story if you can stay engaged. By the time of conclusion, I was glad it had ended.

Incredible! I've been searching for the next exciting, gripping end of the world survival story and this was it! I'm so sad that my adventure is over. Really digging that there is more than just one hero in this saga. A love story and adventure. The world building is amazing. I actually wish I could see the incredible purples and pinks and oranges of the Xenoworld. Dragons and zombie-ish creatures and other crazy combinations of monstrosities that our heroes have to fight. It was such an interesting and engaging progression from Alex in a neat, tidy and well organized bunker underground where he and everyone he knows is safe from the end of the world - all the way to the development of his and all his companions characters and everything they went through. They traversed all over the country fighting and bonding with each other. It was never stale. There was always something new and exciting happening and it was a natural progression in the sense that, whenever the story went in a bit of a different direction, it didn't ruin it or seem like the author was just reaching to extend the chapters. It got better and better just when I thought it was about to be over or that I already read the best part of the story. The characters were well developed. I could visualize so vividly what they each looked like and sounded like and how they fought.

I thoroughly enjoyed this series. The characters were built with care and their personalities were consistent and felt real. Concepts, time, distance, circumstances were all quite well done. Mr. West made me care and I did. I absolutely hated it when I read the last word and I knew it had come to and end. I mean folks, I read all 7 within 2 months!

I am looking into reading other novels by him.

This absolutely did not need to be so long. Way too much repetition. Over embellishment of everything.

There are details from the first book that got changed in the 5th or 6th book. Verbosity is like lying... it's hard to keep track of what you already said.

I did have to remind myself that Alex is a teenager. Sadly, his memory was like my octogenarian mom who is status post a traumatic brain injury.

I sped up the rate and skipped through parts where the over-describing became prescriptive and repetition could be anticipated.
