Imogene Saunders is passionate about making her library accessible to everyone. Whether her coworker likes it or not. Caught in an embarrassing and sticky book bin situation, she doesn’t anticipate her rescuer to be a sexy-as-sin biker.
As Imogene fights to turn her library renovation dream into reality, she grows closer to her leather-clad knight. She wasn’t planning on finding romance in this small town, but she's never been one to back down from a challenge.
Oscar Magellan, Mags to his friends, just wants a little normal for his niece. He wasn’t expecting to fall for the beautiful new librarian. And he certainly wasn’t expecting her to literally fall into his arms. But he's not complaining.
Fascinated by the sexy librarian, Mags is more than willing to help Imogene implement her new plan for the library. As things change, and Imogene creates order from chaos, Mags realizes the best way to store your books is to keep them stacked.
Romance genre: MC Series: Devil's Bastards MC Length: 232 pages
Plot: Mags meets librarian Imogene one night while she's nearly falling into the book drop. One thing leads to another and the two of them find that they get on very well.
Commentary: *Not really an MC book - which is fine, just a warning if anyone expected something gritty - this isn't it* There's not a lot of high-tension stuff going on here. Mostly, there's the happenings at the library and some small-town politics. There's stuff with Mags' niece and some interactions with his friends. It's a sweet story and nice to see two people get together without kidnappings, bdsm, drug cartels, etc. - but just this once, I swear! I do like a good MC story if that's what it says on the cover. But these were good, mature, head-on-straight kind of characters.
Publishing a first book is an act of bravery. Telling your friends you’ve written a book and inviting them to read it is braver still. I’ve known Aviva online for a few years, so when she revealed that she had published two books, I was excited. When she offered me the first book, I was terrified. I want to at least like every book I read, and when it’s written by someone I like, I want to like it even more.
I liked Stacked. It is very definitely a first book in the sense of a first published book and the first book of a series. One of the things a first book of a series has to do is establish a reason to be invested in the series. Stacked is primarily focused on the romance between Imogene and Oscar Magellan. Peripheral to the romance, Aviva sets up some looming conflicts. A small town needs to change or it will die. The mayor has been wanting to sell city property and make a lot of money. A barrier to selling off city property is a grant which seeks to revitalize the town instead of gentrifying it. There’s also the Devil’s Bastards motorcycle club and what exactly it is that they are up to. I am so grateful that Aviva resisted the urge to establish a town full of quirky characters. She kept her story focused on the people the story needed, while leaving room for the cast to grow.
Aviva has thought through why her characters are where they are. Imogene was hired to revitalize the library and it’s programs because of the mysterious grant. She is there because she has an opportunity to shape the rebirth of a library. Oscar is a member of the motorcycle club (why is a mystery and I hope later books will shed some light on that) and has just taken in his sister and niece. I love it when characters come together organically.
Aviva has the plot on lockdown and she doesn’t let it get away from her. Where some of her newness as an author particularly shows is in the introduction of Imogene. I found it a little rocky, but it doesn’t take too long before Aviva hits her stride. I’m excited to see where this series is going, and I’m even more excited to see Aviva grow into her voice as a writer. She does a lot of things right with her characters and her plot in this book. It is not a chore to read at all. When it seems to me that she’s at her most comfortable, extraneous detail is stripped away and the characters speak from an authentic place. At some point in the future, Aviva is going to be comfortable enough to write with no fucks given and I can’t wait to read that book. Not every writer gets to that point, but I’m pretty sure Aviva will.
Very little about this book makes it an MC romance. There is a biker, yes, he is the hero, he wears a cut, and he attends church once. That's it. The sum total of biker content in this book.
Now, too many MC romances rely on various woman-in-peril tropes. It's misogynistic and gross. But Stacked has no peril whatsoever. It's a nice, cute, quiet story about two people falling in love. On the positive side, it's pretty accurate about libraries and librarian work. The heroine is fun, smart, and sticks up for herself and her beliefs, which is great. BUT when I pick up an MC romance, I'm not really looking for nice, quiet stories. I want danger! Suspense! Action! Heroines with grit and gumption! Bad boys on bikes breaking my heart and then putting it back together again!
I would have given this book more stars if it had not been advertised as an MC Romance. Frankly, I was so bored, I almost gave the book 2 stars but decided to be generous because I did read the whole thing. My bad.
This was not what I was expecting but in a good way. I thought it would be based around the MC with hints of the library, but it was totally the opposite. The FMC was quite the character, strong, decisive, and very appealing, and the storyline evolved around her while the MMC was also strong but fell in second, like a back up characters. This flips the MC storyline on its head, but it still works. Will be reading on.
I just didn't like that I'm reading an MC Alpha book and female character is the Alpha not the biker. I would have even been ok with them both being Alpha but that was not the case. I won't pay 3.99 for the next book to see if the author gets it right. The author should enroll her books in the Kindle Unlimited program.
I really enjoyed this book! Mags and Imogene were great together. Her stuck in the return bin and her at the bar, funny moments. Loved the banter and Mary’s sticky personality! Over all enjoyed reading this book and I am moving on to book 2! Don’t miss this book
This was a good book if you really just want fluff and romance. There was scene in the entire book that was at the clubhouse, that was all. I was expecting something to come from that scene but then they never visited it again until the very end of the book. This book was all about Imogene and Mag's relationship. If you want an MC romance, this isn't it.
This was a ride. Motorcycles, maybe crime, a cute kid, microfiche, retro clothing/decor/lingerie, feminism... I mean. Meet cute is solidly in my top 10 of all time. Smashing was hot and consensual. Definitely will read more from this author.
The book is cute and warm hearted with a small town fill . There is a very little bit of the MC life . the MC is not the back drop for the book ,it's what Mag's job is .
Moved quickly, both emotionally and through time, but I liked that, I liked the longer focus that gave and development of secondary characters because the primary ones were secure already.
Loved it, reading this book is like digging into Mary Poppin‘s carpet bag, there are real hidden depths that makes the feminist in me yodel with glee, and the bonus is it’s mixed in so subtly with those lovely rough and ready MC biker bits we all find irresistible. Perfect, I absolutely adored Imogene and I really wish I could high five her.
This is a fun and playful tale about a librarian and a MC man. Both are more than they seem. Romance, humor, sexy and serious. Family and friendship and work relationships. A standalone story with a promise of more stories of Devil's Bastards members. Well done!
Imogene is a fucking delight. She’s unabashedly herself, and Aviva layers in the kind of details that make her feel real, but don’t push too far into caricature. We’re also given details of some of Mags angst, specifically relating to his sister and niece, and Imogene gets him to think more critically about his opinions and assumptions, but are left with questions about his role in the MC. Which, for me, was perfectly fine.
Aviva published two books in this series last year, and this year announced she would not be continuing with it, the way the MC made its money had painted her into a corner – there was no way to authentically write badass feminist characters falling for these men in future works, and it was proving difficult to justify redemption arcs or HEAs. I deeply respect her choice to walk away from this, acknowledge the errors that made that the best decision (her latest book Hot Rabbi is already out and I am VERY excited about it). All that said, you can read this book without the black cloud of what the MC is up to ruining it, its enough on the periphery of this book, and I suggest you do.
Liked but didn't like. There was several things about this book I did Like. Oh, by the way there will be spoilers ahead so stop now if you don't want to read them. I like how protective Mags was with his niece. The author made it plan as day that he cared/loved her a lot. I like how the author put a bit of reality to her story. Such as a mom getting into a bad situation with guy after guy and just dumping her kid for the next guy. I like how Mary didn't freak out when Sandra didn't come back for Shana, but instead kept the girl occupied so she didn't realize she had been abandoned by her mom. What I did not like about this story was that this was supposed to be an MC romance and their was not much about the MC in the book. Mags was in an MC and wore a cut, but there wasn't any MC action. I absolutely hated Imogene's character. Can we say emotionally challenged. I was fine with her character up until Shana and Mags spent the night at Imogene's house. It came across to me that she was having a hard time controlling her emotions and also seemed like she was trying to start an argument with Mags. I viewed Mags as an alpha male type until that particular part of the book and then it seemed he was whining about being expected to watch out for his sister growing up even though his sister was very wild. This book did have passion, great love scenes and a good plot, but the characters were lacking and the MC just wasn't there. Even though I did not think this book was my cup of tea, I still recommend people read for themselves. Everyone has a difference of opinion, and mine just happened to be I did not like the book. Maybe you will.

The author’s debut novel does an excellent job of setting up a serialized world of sex, romance, and mystery in a sleepy little town, partially revitalized by the shady dealings of a reformed motorcycle club.
The two main characters in this novel are sex on a stick (which sounds like something they may have actually tried given the very open-minded and sex-positive librarian). The book wastes no time getting into the sexual tension and then giving you a taste soon after (or maybe I was just reading at lightening speed).
In the background of the central romance, the author deftly constructs the framework for the series without detracting from the main characters. The plot teasers in the book leave you on a cliff hanger by the end, ready to move on to the next book in the series and guessing which MC member will be subject to the next storyline and which burgeoning conflict they will tackle first.
Overall, I’m interested to see how things take shape in the overarching series. The conflict was very low-stakes in this book, and I wish I could have seen these two characters tackle something that challenged them to work together to “overcome” a little more. Hopefully there is more Imogene and Mags in the future; I’m downloading the second book as I type this!
The book equivalent of that super comfy over-stuffed sofa
The dialogue between characters flows and has an easy beat. There aren't too many characters that you lose track of who is who (a thing that often plagues the genre of "kissing books").
With the addition of a Motorcycle Club there was no beating the reader around the head with definitions and explanation. It was easy discovery along with the main character, Imogene.
I felt the story could have been longer but it certainly didn't negatively impact my enjoyment of the writing.
Book two is available and I'm going to jump right in!
A contemporary romance. The main character is a strong female who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to speak her mind. Her romantic interest could be a strong dominating man, but he has an endearing soft side. I enjoyed the repartee and character development as they progressed...looking forward to reading the next one in the series!
This was a truely delightful story, I loved Imogen, she was so confident in herself. I enjoyed the banter and how she was able to show Mags where he went wrong in his thinking in sich a way that it was not confrontational. Am looking forward to reading more by this author.
This is a book you don't want to miss! Sexy with characters almost too good to be true. You actually feel the characters with dialogue that will make you laugh and cry. Can't say enough, I am so happy to find this author and can't wait to read another book.
Enjoyed this unusual biker romance. Not much biker stuff going on more about the sexy librarian and the biker’s family. Interesting but more insta love than fully developed characters. I did enjoy the author’s writing style enough to get book 2.
A new author for me and I really enjoyed the book. It's not your usual MC book as it doesn't revolve around the clubhouse like others. A good story that keeps you interested.
