Upon retiring in June 2015 after 25 years of teaching, Laila Hasib founded and became the proprietor of Inked Resistance Islamic Publishing in Richmond Hill, Ontario, a unique Islamic fiction publishing company for young and new adults, facilitating young and new adults’ voices to be heard through publication of their manuscripts, as well as her own work.
Laila Hasib completed degrees in criminal justice and psychology in North Carolina before turning to teaching school, especially special education, both private and public, in Maryland and Ontario. She has been writing most of her life and is the author of several young adult novels.
Recognizing the lack of Islamic fiction for Muslim and non-Muslim youth and new adults, especially in the west, Laila Hasib’s mission is to provide wholesome Islamic fiction books, including novels, poetry, short stories, spoken word and essays, for young and new adult readers mainly by them. Not only is she owner and editor, but Laila Hasib will also mentor young writers through the publishing journey.
The first of its kind, Inked Resistance Islamic Publishing embodies strong moral values and seeks diverse writers. Laila Hasib is passionate about justice, liberation, faith, love and resistance and is excited about providing young and new adults the opportunity to have their voices heard through her company.
Inked Resistance Islamic Publishing began in October 2017 with her first novel, The Sandhills of Arabia, originally published in 1992.
Laila Hasib is a Muslim convert, married, mother of five and grandmother. She lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband.
