Fire and Water fight back.

Sophia

The battle for Orenda Academy has begun. The Elders have spoken, and the tribe is divided. The only way to reverse what’s happened is to take a stand.

We’ve started a smuggling operation to help students escape the castle, but it could cost us our lives. The prophecy is about to come true, and we’re desperate to change the course of this war.

The Air piece of the prophecy is our last hope. If we don’t find it, we won’t know what’s coming— or how to prevent the end.

Liam

The tribe’s darkest hour has come. Students labeled as “weak” have been subject to persecution. Sophia and I are no exception. The Elders consider us a threat— but they don’t know just how great of a threat we are.

An underground revolution is taking place. My father has set out to undermine the Elders, and he’s asked for my help. Information is needed, and to get it, I’ll have to become a spy, and risk execution.

In the middle of it all, I’m about to pop the question. I just hope I survive long enough to ask Sophia to marry me.

***

The race to stop the prophecy becomes more crucial as Liam and Sophia’s world falls under a dictatorship. Forbidden love is put at risk as espionage, secrets, and murder threaten to bring the end to the Elementai forever. Fans of Harry Potter and The Hunger Games will become addicted!

Ugh, it was only chapter 4 but I was feeling so over Sophia whining about not having kids..Dude! You're at a foster home!! 🤦‍♀️ Obviously there are children among the Hawkeye that need parents and love. HELLO?!! You were freaking adopted and adored your parents. Adopt!
(BTW, her parents have barely been mentioned and haven't made an appearance in the past 2 books. Maybe she forgot her first 19 years? 🤷‍♀️)

Anyhow, in this book our 4 main characters continue to search for the clues to the prophecy. Meanwhile, their society continues to breakdown around them. The 4 house system is changed to a 2 house system. (I.e. weak and strong or good and bad) The vast majority of the book, they make very little headway until it's too late. Sophia is struggling with PTSD from the destruction and devastation in the last book.

Meanwhile the new bad guys are taking a page from Hitler's book, including genocide.
I dunno, the series doesn't always feel genuine and original for me. It seems that the author's attempted to pull from enough different references that it would not be plagiarism exactly but also wasn't their unique thought. I'm going to finish but it likely won't be one that starts with me. 🤷‍♀️

CW: Holocaust
This book is full of pain. Not just the current events happening to the characters, but it's compounded by recreating the Holocaust and the lead up to it in detail. I've read a lot of books that alluded to Nazism and its dangers, but this is the most overt one I've experienced. You can see it coming in the previous books, but I wasn't mentally prepared for just how similar it was.

i had to sleep on it. this was very good??? it was absolutely more going on and there was lots of good drama.

I am so sure doya is her mother btw.

it is so funny that it took Liam the whole book to propose to her

it I'd predictable and the writing is soso, but the story is good. I'm hooked. who doesn't like magical holocaust?? I got mad about things I was supposed to be mad about, I got happy about stuff I was supposed to be happy about.

Jonah is god? love that

we still don't get Imogen and jonahs pov?? hate that

I kind of fell asleep at the end there, but good for him that he got a new friend

also the fact that everyone dies?? kind of a slay. I got upset when the grandparents died, I liked them.

I can't write my review as a continuous text, I don't use enough braincelles on these books to give them proper reviews. but I had fun. it's one of few book series that I can manage to listen at 1.5 and it sounds normal lol.

I might come back to write more. just had to write something now

Ugh I loved this book so much I finished it so quickly! Thank goodness there’s a fifth book in this series because I’m not ready for it to end. Sophia was definitely in my opinion the main person as she went on her own battle within her self while Liam struggled to help most times. All the characters came into their own and made decisions that impacted the others as well. Definitely a mature read because there is so much action and romance that is fairly detailed. This series is a good one for an independent project for students to do as long as it’s approved by the teacher because this book definitely had more detailed romance and action then the pervious ones.

The Air Omen (Hidden Legends: Academy of Magical Creatures Book 4) is a highly intense novel creating a tsunami affect. Taking you on a disequilibrium, causing vertigo. Ensorcelled, ghastly, otherworldly, just three words that are just a glimpse of what this narrative is. Trickling through the pages is betrayal, games, loss, melodrama and the force will to go on. Character's are intriguing and continue to flourish. The writing style is gripping and eloquently detailed. Looking forward to reading the final book in this series The Elemental War.

'We'd have our wedding, and we'd find her real parents, we'd bring out families back together and reunite with our friends. The brightest mornings come after the darkest night and the greatest rewards come after the most painful trials. We were going to make a new beginning and somehow we'd get our tribe back'

I am even here right now, I feel like I lived this book. Everything seemed so real it scared me!!! I could feel every emotion, hear every thought and live every moment... the agony, the joy the romance, the happiness and the complete horror and terror... it was too much to handle....
This book was like experiencing WOII but in magical form.... I don't have any words or tears left....
It begins with a Liam being 7 years old getting lessons from his grandfather about being Chief. Then jumps to Jonoah and Liam playing in Jonah's house. They ay hide and seek and are scared by a monstrous creature who sole jonah's father's painting. Apparently it was a important painting and his father hit jonah and liam!! Liam wanted to protect Jonah and luckily his father interfered, but he couldn't take Jonah away... it was heartbreaking!!!
The book is going through 7 fases of the genocide
1. Classification: the Hawkei are divided into Byiam(weak) and Defortai. Elder Oleander is the tyran the biggest monster who ever lived!!!
Chieftess anette Westfenix aka Haley's mon manipulated flames to sort people into the 2 houses. weak familiar/elementai vs the 'strong' doya manipulated Sophia's flame so had to choose between power and her friends, easy choice sophia is having nightmared about the Riots, specifically the couple/ her friends dumped bu a dragon from the sky!!!! She is a shell of who she used to be, all her fight is gone and she doesn't fight back... Liam gives her space and time
2. Symbolising: biyami were being tattooed to brand there place in society!!! Biyami names are considered curse(Isabella a student was first abused and knocked out without ANYONE doeing a thing!!! and later harassed and almost raped sophia saved her!!! They have a 'dorm' in the dungeon!!!! They can't talk or go were Defortai (Ezra, Lindsey, miranda, Vanessa)!!!
Somewhere along the way, they found a secret passage way in the Anichi dorm!! It is going to become the way smuggle students away!!! The fkrst is taylor who saw her brother being BURNED ALIVE by Haley!!!! AND GOT AWAY WITH IT!! NOBODY CARED ABOUT BYIAMI!! The team smuggled her away and later Aldric headmaster discovered the anichi dorms too and helps them. He takes a leader roll in it and helps too. Many other Professors have fleed are retired. Aldric and Perot were in a Interhouse relationship!!
3. Dehumanisation: all belongings were taken away from the Biyami!!! It was terrible!! The Task Force (police) took everything away with high force and Noxie guns!!! Including all Liam's presents from Sophia and his medication!!! All their precious stuff (imogens hairbows, Jonahs makeup and Sophia's art stuff) later they even can't get MEDICATION!!! LIAM OMG!!! AND ONE BOY HAD CANCER!!! Jonah stole his inhaler back!!!
4. Organisation: a specific plan to eliminate the Biyami: Liam is following a intership for he needs to look into reports for to search for the Storm Lord (more later) he finds the biyama records and they are all being watched!!!!
5. Polarization: the elders taking total control!!! They kill everyone!!!! One moment sophia and Liam are in the forstercar (shopia goes there for school) they fiercly care about Andriel a autistic child. He is adorable!!! One moment the Task Force bark in and arrest Miss Evengeline for CHILD ABUSE AND MORE HORRIBLE LIES!!! SHE IS AN OLD WOMAN WHO NEVER HURT ANYONE!!! THEY KICK HER TO THE GROUND AND VIOLATED HER IN FRONT OF THE CHILDREN WHO ARE LATER BEING SHOT AND TAKEN AWAY TO THE CAMP!!! I AM SCREAMING!!!!
this is Sophia's turning point... in that moment she gets all her rage and power back and is fiercely determined to fight, come hell or water THEY ARE GOING DOWN!!!!
6. EXTERMINATE: in mass slaughter as many kills as possible in abundance!!! One time he eavesdropped a conversation with 2 Elder woman. They talk about PUTTING CHILDREN INTO CONCENTRATION CAMP!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!! they dump them in there so the parents will submit!!! I HAVE NO WORDS!!!
7: denial... people will never admit what has been done....
These staged were named in a war lecture. It was about the Great Supernatural War. The Supernaturals were raging war against each other and the Elves where mass murederd. This was an EXAMPLE!!!

Among all this hell, Liam is going to pop the quesyion!!! These scenes were beyond romantic!!! Imogen and Jonah caught a jewellery magazine and are preparing for their wedding!!! He buys the most beautiful ring (peardrop with saffier and rubby stones!!! He is sooo nervous and fails 2 times!!! First: after bungy jumping together they have a family dinner with fireworks who ALMOST SET THE HOUSE ON FIRE and Squaks being Squaks had the ring and FEEL, SHE ATE THE RING!!! OMG I CAN'T!!! the 2nd: he took her to a magical place with Luma funa!!! But the moment he got on one knee HE COLLAPSED!!! his health was getting worse and worse!!! A beautiful scene was the painting scene!!! They made love and therefor SPIRIT ART!!! :art with feelings of the soul. This is crucial: jonah told the Yapluma elders LOST THE AIR PIECE!!! after investigating, Imogen discovered the Air piece had to be in the painting!!! They need the Storm Lord to be worthy and talk to the painter who was the first Storm Lord Emmet. The Yapluma Elder is a storm lord for she has a Poenix and Ezra also has a Poenix Dyiamy, but he is Toaqua. The woman refuses to help tome and time again.
-mia: liam is trusting Mia to help them with the Smuggle operation. She is Defortai so she has autority. Later she is asked to kill Anette for she is planning to kill Sophia!!!
Anette is the other Tyran. She wants to be High Chief (power over all). The 2 houses was her idea all along and Oleander stole it from her. She wants him dead and has assasins!!!!
-doya. She soo is confusing, she is actually HELPING/ PROTECTION sophia!!! But later is her true self revealed!!!
-liams dad, he asked Liam to be his spy. He is losing votes from the elders
-one event, renar and his girlfriend who is an even bigger bitch!!! Are assaulting the group!!! Jonah told renar's story: he was sexual abused by his father, and drugged Jonah!!!! Again i have no words for this cruelty...
Liam finds a color to control a familiar!!! Oleander stile a dragon hybrid and has his own imprisoned so he can't be killed!!!
The ending is near. Sophia's and Imogens family have fleed with just a message...
Elder Wells from Toaqua is allied to Liam's dad!! She wants quality too and save the Hawkei. Her familiar is an Orka who she saved from a zoo!! She did set her free but the orka came back to save her!!
Liam has witnessed a slaughter of the Yapluma tribe and the strom lord woman is killed too!!! This was soo freaking scary I can't believe it.... after this they at last decide to flee. Jonah wanted to go ages ago for he has nothing left... they attempt to flee, ezra and the rest are waiting at home. But just when they want to go, they dicover that the Air piece is in the Air Kingdom (Elder Yapluma left a note for Jonah saying she isn't the strom Lord but the Air piece is in the kingdom!!!
Before they go, Liam FINALLY asks Sophia to msrry him!!! But first Eses jumps into the river and LIAM DROPPED THE RING!!! luckily he conjured the ring with his magic and SHE SAID YES!!! MY HEART WAS BURSTING!!!!
Jonah levitated them to the Palace and he had to fight against a beast of a guardian!!! The fight seems IMPOSSIBLE until Squaks TRANSFORMS INTO AIR IT SELF and has little Hippogriff spew air against the beast!!! JONAH manages to fight the beast and just when his friends are about to be shot with lightning HE CONTROLS IT!!! JONAH IS THE CHOSEN STORM LORD!!! HE HAS PROVEN WORTHY AND MAY TALK TO EMMET!!! The painting forms Emmet and he tells them the air peice: smoke and fire will prove the Extinction of the Hawkai!!!
Omg there is no stopping it....
The battle has began... they go back to the Anichi dorm for maggie went there,Liam's dad makes amends with Sophia in a beautiful and Emotional way!!! He helped them all escape. Maddie is in danger for her boyfriend Drew (who Sophia introduced when she was all alone) is being hostaged!!!
but its a trap HE NEEDS HER FOR HER SEER'S ABILITY!!! MIA BETRAYED THEM ALL!!! liam SACRIFICED HIMSELF AND IS SENTENCED TO DEATH ALONG WITH ALDRIC!!! Mis is pregnant and wanted to save his psycho husband!!!! She is later abandoned when Taks Force wanted to kill her, she was saved by Wyatt who secretly loved her while she ran away... the coward
Sophia and Liam have a absolute hearbeaking scene in the dungeon... no words.... I cried sooo hard!!!
He begs her to move on and be happy.... shopia is forcly taken away my heart broke!!!
Its time, Liam and Aldic are being executed!!! Liam will burn alive slowly and Aldric slowly drowned!!! Oleader tells the whole crowd lies about their actions HE EVEN BLAMES THE PLAGUE ON THEM!!
but Liam's dad and the group plan to save Liam by raving havoc!! Sophia at last kills the flames and dad the water!! but Oleander has a magical compass which leads to the magical source!!! Sophia is found!! ALL HELL BREAKS LOSE!!! She sentences to death too, like the Middle ages with a block of wood AND AN AXE!!! Imogen, jonah and Maddie scream and wreck havoc, Dad challenges Oleander and asks rhe crowded who they want ans Chief, oleander or Annerte. She takes her chance, Anette sends her Assasins to Oleander (Jaymin follower who she will take the blame) IT IS THE RIOTS ALL OVER AGAIN!!! ORENDA ACADEMY WHICH WAS THEIR HOME IS GOING UP IN FLAMES!!! CHOAS, DEATH, DESTRUCTION, HORROR, MUREDER, TERROR CRYNG, SCREAMING AND SOOO MANT DYING!!! NOTHING BUT SMOKE AND ASH
Aldric is killed BY DOYA!!! TRAITOR!!! SHE SET HIM AFLAME
Oleander used Liam as bait to get his dad all along!!! At last liam's dad fights against an Elder!!! His power is unbelievable, but he is worn out... AND OLEANDER STOLEM FAMILIAR KILLED TATUM THE BEAR!! DAD'S FAMILIAR!!! the whole Time Liam tried to break free form his friends to save his dad, but sophia BURNED HIS HAND!!! SO HE COULDN'T SAVE HIM!!! his father commanded to stay put and he wouldn't listen...long after he is shot through his heart with an arrow from Annette!!!! The prophecy was fulfilled, the chief is dead, Toaquas darkest hour has fallen!!!! SCREAMING MY HEAD OF
Anette later died herself for her familiar was killed by Haley's familiar after haley was hit with her fireball!!!! It all happend so fast!!!! I CRIED SOO HARD, IT WAS SO CLOSE TO HOME I DON'T WANT THHIS!!!!
after that horror came the next horror, they all try to escape again and when they used the other secret passage way they find Sophia's grandparents WHO ARE KILLED BY RENAR AND GIRLFRIENDS FAMILIAR!!! THE BRUTAL, CREAL AND TERROR!!! Grandpa dying breath he confesses to sophia HE ISN'T HER GRANDPA!!! HER BIOLOGICAL PARENTS ARE NOT THE ONE SHE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!! OMG THIS IS TOO MUCH TO HANDL!!!! BY THE ANCESTORS!!!! Jonah and Imogen are the only one who remain strong, theh grab their friends and run to saftt. They take the leader roll!!
renar and girlfriend have escpaed and the Taks Force are on the groups their heals, they escaped in Jonah's truck and they are save in a scret place Jonah and Imogen had found as a last restort, Imogen also bought a house form he tournament winnings.... the dragkn egg Sophia had to take care of for class is hatching. Julian interprets immediately with Liam!!! LIAM HAS A COMPANION!!!! not a replacement but he will care and love the dragen!!!!

The Air Omen feels like the calm before the storm—but in the best way. While the pace slows a bit compared to the last few books, I actually really enjoyed the space it gave for character growth and emotional depth. The magic school setting continues to be one of my favorite parts of the series, and I still love that blend of magical learning, elemental powers, and mythical creatures all woven into daily student life.

This book leans more into the personal journeys of the characters, especially through the dual POV. I continue to really appreciate how different and well-developed both voices are. The male main character, who is disabled, remains one of my favorite aspects of the series. His role isn’t just about representation—it’s empowering, and his perspective adds a layer of realism and emotional strength to everything that’s happening.

While this book is a bit more introspective, it sets the stage for the final confrontation and builds tension in quieter but meaningful ways. The relationships feel more developed, the stakes are personal as well as magical, and the world continues to expand in subtle but powerful directions. The Air Omen may not be the most action-packed, but it’s full of heart—and I felt even more connected to the characters by the end.

The Air Omen (Hidden Legends: Academy of Magical Creatures Book 4) ~ ~Book 4 feels like the storm before the war. Secrets come to light, relationships fracture and rebuild, and the threat creeping closer feels suffocating at times. The aerial magic scenes were incredible — I could see them playing out like a movie. The tension in this book never lets up, and the stakes rise higher than ever.

There’s a major turning point in this book that changes everything, and I genuinely wasn’t ready. It left me frustrated, heartbroken, and desperate for answers — exactly the way a good fantasy war arc should feel.

Listening on Audible added so much intensity. The emotion in the voices made everything more real, and I loved being able to switch between formats depending on what I was doing and never miss a beat.

I would definitely recommend this book and series and can’t wait to start on the next book. If you want to know what happens next, you’ll just have to read this series yourself — you won’t regret it.

To start with: who the F thinks Julian is a good name for a dragon? Why didn’t the authors ask a friend about this?!

This book made me glad i struggled through books two and three. There’s much less of Liam and Sophia being twits and not handling their emotions well and much more plot progression.
This book has a much more dystopian feel than the first three - the Academy and Tribes have been divided into those who are strong and those who aren’t, and there’s a strong WWII-fiction feel as the Bayomi (weak) members are being taken, even as Sophia and friends start an operation to smuggle them out of school.
This is the darkest of the books so far.

Sophia and Liam

War breaks out and many die. A 2 party system instead of four groups is put in place ,manly the strong vs weak. The weak are tattooed and deligated to serving status and can't own businesses. They are demeaned and preyed upon, and their possessions confiscated. Sophia, LIam ,Jonah and Imogen help those persecuted to escape Orenda. But they are eventually found out, and Liam and Dean Alric are sentenced to death. They are able to save Liam, but his Dad is killed. Sophia 's Grandparents are killed by Renar's familiar.

A fantastic, romantic fantasy. The Hawkei are falling apart. All evidence points to the rise of a tyrannical elder. Power makes right is the theme of the time. Things are going from bad to worse.

This is an important step in the series. However, it is not an easy one. It is not for the faint of heart. I can only believe that hope will return through the remaining titles.

Action-packed. Haunting. Romantic. Scary. Steamy. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Wonderful characters.

I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.

Perhaps

Perhaps it was the dark nature of the book itself, but I wasn't as fond of this book. I know, for every light there is a dark ... yadda yadda yadda, but I needed a little more. Though I will admit the story was good and the writing was good as well it just wasn't my favorite. I'm excited to see if my second prediction of the book is right as I did nail the ending chapter's (#teamliam) spin. Onwards and upwards can't wait to see where we go from here.

This is definitely the best book of the serie. It’s a non-stop of events and fast pace. All the fights and battles are so well-described that it looks like we were there, involving the readers deeply and scenes cascading on us, all emotions flooding. More secrets are uncovered and makes us eager for the next title.

powerful message

This is one of the best novels I have read in a while. It contains elements of the holocaust and breaks it down well. Trigger warning if you have experienced something like this. This instalment isn’t a happy one for our heroes. They have to grow up a lot. Powerfully written I highly recommend this.

An excellent continuation of the Academy of Magical Creatures series. The story got very dark, tense and emotional, but was gripping throughout and maintained the brilliant representation of chronic illness and disability that is so amazing in this series. I loved the twists and turns, and the hope revealed at the end ... I'm ready for the next instalment!

This is the fourth book of the exciting series! DEFINITELY need to read the previous books before this or you'll be completely lost. My heart shattered reading this book. However with any quest or journey, to reach the pinnacle one usually has to go through immense hardships. My word did our faves go through crazy hardships!!!! I can't wait to see what's next, for this book truly wears our faves down. I've no doubt they'll rise like Phoenix, but to do that they must burn within the fires 🔥🔥🔥, and that they do. It's through this book they endure the most physical and emotional pain ever... Bonding our group forever. They suffer immense hardships, treachery, betrayal, massive secrets revealed, and through it all they grow a little more toward who the ancestors need them to become. This book had many triggers...abuse, bullying, and so much more. However it's worth every hardship to see where the story is leading them. I've no doubt what will emerge from this pain and many revelations will be a beautiful society. I can't wait to see who our group ultimately become, for I'm certain it will be a thing of beauty.... And I'm guessing more than a couple life changing revelations are coming their way!
