Kat has already faced spells, curses and unbelievables, and risked her life by travelling to the past to retrieve invaluable items. Now she needs to attempt to find the Mallory amulet, which has been missing for over two centuries. This will likely be more dangerous than any of her previous missions to the past and it doesn’t help that her personal life is a mess.

My best friend was pulling away from me. My partner in the occult arts no longer had time for me. And my ghost mentor was actually ghosting me.
This was not what I expected my senior year of high school to be like.

Four families have been bound together for centuries. Kat, the Langley heir, has been spending her weekends completing as much magical training as possible with Evan, the Kingsley heir, to prepare themselves to defeat the Dark One. Kat’s feelings towards Evan have been growing but she doesn’t know where she stands with him, and besides, when Langleys and Kingsleys fall in love it never ends well.

The Langley and Kingsley families protect the Radcliffes. The fourth family, the Mallory’s, are the historians and secret keepers; they’re so secretive that no one even knows who the current Mallory heir is.

The coolest ghost I know, Toria, was MIA when this story began but she remains one of my favourite characters. I loved getting to spend some quality time at Dumbarton with Kat’s aunts, Vivian and Jacqueline. Abrasive Jacqueline is really growing on me and I still wish sweetheart Vivian was my aunt. She always manages to snag the best lines - “Dear, the dead aren’t always at your beck and call. … They do have their own afterlife to live.”

While I adore Dumbarton (I need to live there!), I was excited to finally visit the Kingsley ancestral home, Ravenshurt, inspired by this real life awesomeness in Belgium, a neo-Gothic castle called Château Miranda.



I finally know who the current Mallory heir is and the reveal was worth the wait! No, I’m not telling you who it is! I also found out some useful information about the Dark One and I have my suspicions about who may be in cahoots with them but I hope I’m wrong.

While the first two books in the series are told solely from Kat’s perspective, Evan’s voice is also included in this book. I enjoyed learning more about him (he loves manga!) but don’t feel he’s had enough page time yet for me to readily distinguish his voice from Kat’s.

I got sucked straight into the story, even though it’s been almost two years since I read the second book in the series. It did take me a little while to click back into remembering who all of the ancestors were and the specifics of Kat and Evan’s previous time travel adventures. I was so grateful to have the second book on hand when I finished the first and think it would have helped me initially if it hadn’t been so long between reads.

I highly recommend reading this series in order. In theory you could just jump right in there and start with this book but you’d be setting yourself up for some major spoilers of the first two. The inclusion of family trees for the four families could be helpful for both continuing and new readers of this series.

This is such a cool series that doesn't get enough attention.  While book one is my favorite so far, this one was very close.



Kat and Evan spend most of their weekends training.  This has caused a huge issue between Morgan and Kat.  Morgan wants to know what is going on, but Kat doesn't want to risk her life by telling her.  Evan and Seth are going through something similar, but not as intense since Seth is more laid back.  Seth's cousin is now staying with them which makes Kat realize her feelings for Evan after being jealous.  There is a ghost that can't speak right.  And now Toria won't come back to Kat.  So things are going bad and Kat is a wreck.



Kat and Evan still need to find the final amulet so that the families can be strengthened.  This involves some heavier magic and going back even further in time.  We get to find out more history from some of the families and characters.  This was definitely my favorite part of the book.  We also get to see some different types of unbelieveables.  Kat has to push her magic farther than ever before and it's taking a toll on her.  But she's determined to help everyone, even if it costs her.  She also has to keep The Dark One away from everyone she loves. 



I really love how the ending went and cannot wait to read the story line from it.   I don't want to give away anything from this book, but I really enjoyed it and read it very quickly.

This is the third book in this young adult paranormal romance series. Once again, it is up to Kat to use her skill of traveling into the past to save her family and the other three families that are entwined with hers. Her feelings for Evan grow stronger though he seems uninterested in her due to the presence of his friend's cousin. The story is a fun read and leaves the reader waiting for the next book in the series.

The Girl Who Loved Ghosts by K.C. Tansley is a young adult novel (that adults will enjoy too) that is part of The Unbelievables series, and they do need to read in order. Each book builds upon what happened in the previous one. Kat is the Langley heir whose special gift ties to the past unlike her other relatives. This allows her to travel back in time to retrieve each of the lost amulets. Kat and Evan only have the Mallory amulet left to recover and they will have to go back further than they have before in order to locate it. I love the magical elements and the unique creatures. There are ghosts, goblins, a dark warlock, and other magical creatures. It is interesting how Kat can tell the difference between different people’s magic by the way it feels on her skin and the way it tastes. I enjoyed the descriptions of Evan’s ancestral estate, Ravenhurst. I did feel that the pacing was too slow in the first half of The Girl Who Loved Ghosts plus there is repetition of key details that was unneeded. A little after the halfway mark, the story starts to become very interesting and pacing increases as well as the tension. There are some surprising revelations near the end that shock our cast of characters and me. I love it when there is a good twist in a story. At the end we are left with unanswered questions and we must wait for the fourth installment for those answers (let us hope the author writes fast). The Girl Who Loved Ghosts is a spellbinding tale with a family curse, a vanished amulet, time travel, an evil entity, a missing heir, and valiant witches.

2023 52 Book Challenge - 39) The Final Book In A Series

Okay, so I haven't seen anything online to say that there will be another book in this series, but I really hope that there will be, because this book ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger.

I really enjoyed this book, I literally read it straight through in one sitting. It's been a while since I read the previous two books, so I didn't remember the characters and the background plot too well, but it sucked me in straight away.

I loved the emotional growth that Evan and Kat goes through in this book, and the trips to the past that Kat facilitates while facing such normal issues. I laughed when she forgot to restock the toilet paper. The subplot around Toria was pretty transparent and I guessed it pretty much immediately, but that didn't detract from the book.

Don't let the title fool you into thinking this is the book where Kat finds her love or that it is all hearts and roses. No, this book isn't about that at all. This book is about much more than Kat loving a ghost or anyone for that matter. This book has so much sadness and loneliness in it.

At the start of this book Kat has feelings for Evan but isn't fully aware of how deep they run. Evan is completely oblivious and in denial. Seth is dropping hints to Evan non-stop about it all. Seth's cousin is in town and seems to really like Evan a lot. Evan is slowly pulling away but that only gets worse once they find his ancestral home. Then they have to train separately too. Kat has also been keeping all her training and secrets about the past book activities hidden from her best friend, Morgan because she is afraid of Morgan getting hurt. But in hiding all that she almost loses her best friend because she is betrayed. Toria, Kat's ancestor, and the beloved ghost tells Kat that she will be gone for a while and unreachable. And that is how the book starts out. Kat is losing Evan it seems to some new girl, Morgan is almost done with her, and her favorite ghost and ancestor, Toria who has been helping her tells her goodbye. She feels alone and scared but tries to continue.

Kat and even go back in time two more times this book. They're trying to get the Mallory family amulet. It is the last one that they need to restore the four family's power. They still don't know how the families have connected. How it all started, why the Radcliffe's are their "ruler", why the Kingsley's are always the warrior protector, etc. They do eventually get the Mallory bracelet, but this time it had a cost. This time the cost of a spell Kat had to use almost shattered her mind. Add that on top of all the earlier Kat emotions and we have a girl who really has gone through a lot this book.

The Mallory heir is kind of a shocking reveal. At least to me. Maybe I didn't think on through enough. I don't really know. I think I read these books so fast that it's like I'm along for the ride that the story is offering.

I will say this book ended on a weird cliff hanger. That I didn't like. It just puts a personal interact on the end and it feels out of place. I feel like it should be before the ending big reveal then it would flow better to me. As the book is in its current ARC form, it doesn't feel right. I don't think there is enough emphasis that the book is ending. It feels like it just stops. This in itself could tank the whole feeling of the book if you let it. I chose not to because I feel like this book series has done a lot and come a long way and has plenty more to offer.

Overall, this book brings a lot more to the world and is leading to something special it feels like. They're fighting goblins and other creatures in a forest. There is possibly another family curse that the Mallory heir tells Kat about. There is a lot of side plot reveal with the knowledge of unknown enemies out to destroy the four families. The emotional journey everyone has gone through and is trying to deal with will affect the next book greatly. I think the next book is going to have a lot going on. I hope, and think, the next book in the series will be key. I am looking forward to it for sure. And according to an interview with the author, she envisions there to be five or more books. I'm happy with that.

I discovered K. C. Tansley’s books when I was in a reading slump and they were just what I needed. Light reading with a healthy dollop of supernatural. The Girl Who Loved Ghosts is the third book in an ongoing series. You probably need to read the first two, to fully understand what is going on.

Kat has been able to see and help ghosts I her whole life, though for a while she had to ignore them for her own safety. She recently discovered that her father’s family is part of a supernatural alliance of four families that fight evil. Each family has one heir per generation who have access to extra powers. Kat is the Langley heir and can travel back in time to alter events.

Kat is feeling isolated. She can’t tell roommate and best friend, Morgan, the truth about her supernatural destiny, in case she puts her in danger and even her ghost BFF, Toria, seems to have deserted her. Despite Kat and Evan (the Kingsley heir) having saved each others lives and being bound together, Evan seems more interested in his new female housemate, Sydney. However, Kat must still help him to locate his hidden ancestral home as this will increase his power. Then they need to travel back in time and retrieve the Mallory amulet so they can summon the Mallory heir and reunite the four families in the fight against evil.

This book felt like a more downbeat episode in the ongoing story. Kat felt sad and isolated and I connected with her depression a little too much. Morgan’s breakup happened offstage, so to speak, which was disappointing since we had witnessed its revival in book one. The journey to the Kingsley ancestral home felt hurried. I’d expected it to be longer and more difficult. Plus the regulation jump back in time had unexpectedly negative consequences. However, we are three books in and the heroes can’t have it all their own way. Negative consequences up the stakes for the future.

There were issues that weren’t resolved in this book such as Evan’s relationship with Sydney, which seemed to have been forgotten by the end of the book but will no doubt rear its head in book four, alongside the situation with Toria. I am hoping we will also see more of the origins of the alliance.

This book still leaves more questions than answers both for the characters and the readers, which leaves me already wondering - when book four is out?

When Kourtney emailed me the link to download this book, I couldn't wait to start reading it. But, alas, it took me weeks to finish this due to work, har.

It's been 2 years since I read the second book, so I couldn't remember much what happened and didn't have time to reread it. But I was thankful Kat was nice enough to summarize about the four families and the Dark One.

Kat is back as a senior student while practicing magic during weekends at her ancestral home, Dumbarton. And I was glad to see Morgan, Evan, Toria, Aunt Vivian, and Aunt Jacqueline the pessimist again. They were like seeing your best friends after many years. And really glad to read from Evan's point of view (he loves manga)!!! Though there were times it was like Kat was still the one who was narrating instead of him.

Toria was mostly MIA in this book. That's all I have to say about her without giving any spoilers, hehe. There's also a new enemy they have to look out for, which makes the story more exciting. You're not alone from the dark side, Dark One!

I loved the pacing of the storyline for the third book but somehow wished Kat and Evan had a longer moment when they traveled back to the past, since I wanted to know more about Phoebe and Gideon, who I also ship.

And speaking of ships, props to the author for giving more Katvan (what's the official ship name for these two, again? XD) moments! Just a perfect blend of action, mystery, friendship and romance. But daaang the last part I cannot! But I'm not giving up; there's 2 books left. Or more. I need to bribe the author to write more The Unbelievable books, haha!

Overall, like the past 2 books, The Girl Who Loved Ghosts is a great read that you just wanna have adventures with the characters while sipping tea or coffee in a comfy chair. You can't get enough of them, I swear!

I’ve been reading The Unbelievables series since the beginning, and it’s been a pleasure watching Kat grow up, just as it’s been a pleasure seeing K.C. Tansley’s writing get deeper and more evocative with every novel. Part of that, of course, is that her main character is getting older, but part of that is that when you’ve been writing in the same world for a while it becomes more and more real, just as it does when you’ve been reading it for a while.

At this point, I feel like Kat and her roommate/best friend Morgan, Evan, and even Seth are my friends, not just characters in books – they’re that well-drawn. When Kat feels alienated from Evan because his houseguest is getting flirty, I feel for her as keenly as I did when my own high school crush showed interest in someone else.

But this third installment in The Unbelievables series, The Girl Who Loved Ghosts, isn’t some teen romance. Sure, there are elements of romance in it, but it’s really about Kat’s calling to speak with ghosts, to help them solve their unfinished business, and for her combined work with Evan to unite their families, working with the living and the dead to do so.

This is a gripping adventure through time. It has moments of darkness and danger, but it also has moments of great poignance. It’s about honoring family, but it’s also about being true to yourself.

I loved revisiting Kat at her school, and joining her and Evan (and their friends) on their trans-dimensional trips to Dumbarton, but, as always, I was sad for the visit to end, and cannot wait for book four.

Finally, after waiting to long years, we get to read on about Kat's journeys to the past. Because after The Girl Who Ignored Ghosts and The Girl Who Saved Ghosts, this time the journey of Kat and Evan is to the past to retrieve the Mallory amulet, which has been lost over two hundred years ago. However, Kat feels abandoned lately. Her ghost aunt Toria has gone awol, because she the need to take some time off (in the afterlife...), her father is always away chasing dark creatures (especially the Dark One), her best friend Morgan doesn't want to speak to her any more and Evan is busy with his new, gorgeous roommate.
It took me some time to get back into the story, since it has been over two years that I've read the first two parts. But fortunately KC Tansley helps to joggle our memories by having Kat remember all her adventures.
Kat has grown into a young woman, with very confusing feelings about Evan. But the Langley heir and the Kingsley heir can't ever fall in love, because it will end up in disaster. Like Phoebe and Gideon, who ran away together, but where Phoebe ended up losing her mind while trying to heal Gideon on their disastrous elopement.
Furthermore, her best friend Morgan is furious with her, for not telling her everything which has gone down at Dumbarton and in the past. She refuses to speak with her and Kat feels abandoned and lonely.
So, Kat decides to go to the past to help Phoebe and Gideon and to find the Mallory amulet. Even when this means going alone and risking her life. But her friends will not leave her to go alone. So, they leave for the past to retrieve the ancient artifact so they can summon the Mallory heir. Of course, their journey is full of twists and turns. And while in the bodies of Phoebe and Gideon, Kat and Evan also learn about each others feelings and the curse that is upon the heirs not to fall in love. Who is the Mallory heir and how will their journey continue? Find out for yourself in this epic read! Looking forward to the next two stories in the series. I recieved an ARC for this book from K.C.Tansley and am very thankful for that! This book is an absolute gem! Being the third book in the Unbelievables series, it still has all the heat and adventure. The paranormal and time travel elements are absolutely amazing and the action scenes are very well written and hit me with an adrenaline rush! It is so difficult to put the book down! I've always loved Kat and Evan since I first began reading the series, but this book made me feel that I've become closer to the main characters. I absolutely love the ending, a very unexpected one I must say! This series is a must read for every YA fan!

I love how she can pull you into her books with her well developed characters and storyline. As I read I can’t stop turning the pages wanting to know what happens next.
You definitely should read her first two books to meet the characters and follow on their journey together.
I can not wait for the next book because as usual she leaves you wanting more at the end.

This is the first time in reading this author with the story getting my attention. I do so love a good ghost story like most do. This is also a YA giving it a freshness I did not realize I needed until I started this.
First comes the lure of the mystery that grabs us. Kat and Evan it seems are not your usual students which picked my curiosity. The adventure in this does it justice slowly wrapping us into this world. You are faced with danger also that will come with us trying to get clues as we go along with them. I normally do not read time travel too much anymore but do get caught up in this one. You will be spell bound caught on the edge loving every minute you read this.

She with the help of her friends and family must try to reunite the four families while studying for final exams. I found the fantasy theme reminiscent of the Harry Potter books. At times it was hard to keep up with who was who but overall it was a good read. Would recommend for those who like fantasy and magic.

Is it a mystery? A young adult time-travel? Supernatural? This was an unusual time travel story. I hadn't read the first 2 books but you do get the gist of what happened previously but I think it would have been better to read them in order. Kat can travel into the past plus take others with her. Kat and her friends are trying to find an amulet that disappeared centuries ago that might be crucial in defeating the Dark One. Kat also knows changes she makes in the past ultimately affect the future too.
I really enjoyed this book and plan on continuing with the series.

Wow!! This is the first book of this series I've read and I must say it impressed me. It catches you in its spell and doesn't let go, even when you finish the book. I now have to read the others. I don't usually read this type of story but am so glad I did. Full of intrigue, suspense, mystery, danger and tension that kept my heart racing from one page to the next. I can't recommend this book strongly enough!!

This book was a page turner and absolutely creative, as we follow Kat and Evan once again in book three. I really loved the addition of Evan’s POV as it adds more depth to the character development and overall story. The time travel element as always was so fun and entertaining, I felt so bad for Phoebe and Gideon and really grew to care for these characters. However, my favorite dynamic of the book is of course Evan and Kat and I really hope they can find a way to be together. I would also like to see more of Morgan as she felt very distant obviously for the benefit of Toria. I am very curious to find out how that will be settled after helping Kat. Overall this book was a captivating magical romance that as always left me on the edge of my seat wanting more and I can’t wait for book 4! I highly recommend checking this series out if you haven’t already and can’t wait to read more from Kourtney!
