From the Best-Selling Author of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot and Torment.
At the end of the world, all is not peaceful. Nobody is safe- as the Primal Virus sweeps the landscape killing everything it touches, rooting out and infecting the last of the survivors.
The remaining members of the Reaper platoon are dug in and trying to protect themselves, but there are larger forces at play. They survived the fight only to discover the war still rages on and is being lost all around them. To keep the Nation in the hands of the living they will have to risk everything.
In the follow up to Torment, the war continues and Sergeant Gyles pushes forward, as his team struggles to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, where not everything is what it appears to be.

I developed the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot series from notes and ideas I had put together while deployed to Afghanistan. I had been jokingly asked how we would defend against a zombie attack.
I wanted to tell a story that portrays the military that I know, that displays our actual capabilities. These are my thoughts, I hope you enjoy them, and thank you for reading.
This was really excellent and one of the best zombie-ish stories in this genre that I have read. There was non-stop action that kept me feeling dread throughout (and even after I put the book down). Hopefully Book 3 is out soon.
Camp Alamo, Near Hayslette, Virginia, holds the remains of team Reaper led by Gyles and Weaver.
The Camp holds the Army unit called the Reapers and a unit of Marines who maintain camp security. It's a constancy fight to keep the Primals out, and the civilian occupants of the camp fed and safe. With some kind of jamming blocking all radio signals, cell and satellite phones. Reception was spotty, at best, even close up. No way to call for help or even know exactly what is going on in the world outside the camp, scavenging for supplies was necessary and extremely dangerous! The jamming has to stop! The action is non-stop and bloody. Every page is filled with combat, struggling to keep alive and kill the Primals, infected with whatever this was that turned regular people into bloodthirsty screaming animals hungry for their lives. The Reapers and a unit of civilian police must find survivors and a safe place to live what life remains under the Primal threat. Amazing characters, violent bloody action, a rocking storyline and a proven master storyteller bring another great read from the author of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot! Can't wait for book 3!
This book had a bit more complexity in the plot and was more than just running from and shooting zombies. But there was still plenty of zombicide as Gyles team splits into two teams and take on separate objectives. I enjoyed the comradery between the team members.
This book ended suddenly (not a cliffhanger exactly) but there is room for a 3rd book. As of this writing, however, I can find no evidence of a 3rd book (even on the author's web site).
There are a couple of characters that were introduced in the book, that were kept around until the end, but we never find out what happens to them and Lundy could have taken more advantage of them in the plot but didn't. We also do not determine the fate of the world.
A decent and fast read. If book 3 ever comes out, I would probably read it.
Outstandingly well written plot that you can follow
Outstandingly well written plot that you can follow and the unfolding disaster that you are drawn into holds and draws you into the horror that is happening as event's and your team become more tired in a world without safety or security and dwindling resources I love this genre and the master who is taking you on this journey knows how to please 5 star book in my opinion and brilliant quality author
Why did the U.S. Government has the radios? Why not tell the people that a zombie virus was out? Wow, makes one skeptical of the government and why they withhold information from citizens. Some close calls for the teams, but someone is gonna die, always happen like that.
After about a third of the book I thought it was maybe marginally better than the first book, but then when I reached the halfway mark I changed my mind. It wasn’t. This book, just like the Dione is a huge disappointment.
Enjoyed the book. This sargeant sure is lucky that he has good men behind him. He is weak compared to others of the same rank. I admire Luke, who seems to be able to think one step ahead of the rest. When is Book 3 coming out?
Sargeant Gyles and Luke have become my favourite characters in this offshoot from the WTF series, I couldn't put it down, and hope there will be more books to follow. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Any book by this author will keep you riveted. This series kept me reading day and night. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this series and any others written by this author.
The story is fast paced and holds your interest. Not only do the teams have to fight the infected but also the government, whoever that may be. Can't wait to start the next in the series.
Really good story line and wonderful characterizations. Realistic action descriptions. What more could you want? Oh, yeah, I hope the next one is a good.
This author is so great at storytelling. His characters are always believable and relatable. There is plenty of action in this book and lots of scares.
Another good installment from Lunch. Good characters, quick moving plot. I like his books because the military response is more realistic. They may be getting torn up by zombies but they're not incompetent morons like many other post apocalypse books. Nice job
I was on sensory alert. This book had enough action to put a Die Hard movie to shame. Sitting at the edge of my seat I was literally telling everyone what to do....Look behind you! Jump! Turn around! Run!
No synopsis from me. All I can tell my fellow readers is this is a great series.
Fav Quotes: (I am only giving 2) 1. “You all can relax,” Gyles said. “It’s safe here.” “Relax?” the man asked. Gyles laughed again. “City is clear; I already killed them all.” 2. “So tell me, Kenny, what makes you so highly recommended on this road trip? You a super-secret black ops ninja from way back when?” The man laughed as he fished into a vest pocket and slapped on a pair of scratched aviator glasses. “Uber.”
W.J. Lundy delivers another exceptional Military Post apocalyptic thriller. Sergeant Gyles and his Reaper Platoon are intent on saving as many civilians as they can even though the military is talking about retreating. His small team risks it all to survive in a world filled with hostile, infected monsters. This is a page turner. The action is fast paced and keeps your attention throughout the book. I highly recommend this story for fans of the genre.
I have waited so long for this second book ! All I can say is it was worth the wait. Couldn't put it down. Nail biting page Turner. If you have read the aptly named whiskey Tango foxtrot (wtf 😂) series you will love it and if you haven't read it what are you waiting for !!
Both Gyles and Jake must try and help survivors hold out against the primals. Radios jammed but crazy plans are hatched. The action in this book is nonstop. Real life characters that you feel connected, inside the story. I hated for it to end and anxiously await the next book!
Good series! Could use one more book (get to writing)!
I enjoyed reading the series. The top dog is a soldier with a soul. He is willing to bet everything to get the job done, even if it cost him his life. What he won't do is sacrifice his beliefs, no matter what. Keep writing, and I'll keep reading.
This is the second book I've read in this series. As with the first, it does not disappoint. Action packed and full of emotions. Looking forward to Mr. Lundy's next book.
Another awesomeness by W. J. Lundy!! This is the second book in this series and the best so far. I can't wait for the next book and I hope that I hope that it is even better. If you haven't started yet then it is time now. I love me some Sarge Gyles!
