Good

Really anticipated this story but it didn’t quite live up. It was good, but not great. I mean Jared just doesn’t quite apologize properly, his secret is both anti climactic to some extent and big to another extent and only because he hid that for so long. Honestly his story and reason behind what he does, doesn’t really hold much water. I get the dangers and demons that the author tried to bring in to the story line, but that didnt really work as well, it’s a bit flimsy. That should have been fleshed our more because I’m not buying that as a good enough reason. Tessa really does let too much go, she deserves far more from this story than what she got. I did love her starting to defend herself more tho. I also find it hard to believe they all didn’t figure it out. He is always just walking away and never dealing with anything until the very end. Tessa is abused by her father even tho she is strong now and could stop him, that was a bit ridiculous. Overall story arc didn’t progress much, it was sort of their same stuff on repeat. Tessa needs Jared to open up, Jared walks away, Tessa is hurt and repeat, until the last 5 percent and then they only have one heated, steamy scene early on. They have this make up moment, but it’s also anti climactic and we don’t even get to see that big hoorah back together feel good moment. Just - chat, okay I forgive you and done. Literally that’s it. Snooze. Their love connection feels forced. I’ll still read on because I love the cast of characters and laugh at their banter but I’m pretty deflated by this.

Uummm.....bummed

I have enjoyed most of this series but there are those I enjoy less, and this one.

The things I liked:
Her writing style is engaging and her ability to create characters and a story line that you can get into is great.
The conflict here between the two main characters was self created by both and more about their issues and faults and less about an outside bad guy.

The things I didn’t like:
There were some definite editing distractions.
The scene where Jared walks in on Charger having sex, and he watches, admires her assets and gets hard is just f@&$ed up. It is emotional cheating and frankly just yuck 🤢 for me given his supposed love for Tessa.
His walking in on Van and Raven in same scene is also just uugghh, especially when you figure out their relationship.
Jared’s does and says things that go pretty far over the line for me and he just didn’t redeem himself enough by the end.

So for me the cons outweighed the pros and I could only give it a 2 stars. JMHO, but I don’t think you need the male whore’s and yuck sex scenes like Charger when you have the talent this writer has, or anytime really, but she definitely has the talent to do better then that.
Loved Nicole though so will read Pam’s story.

Loved tessa, Jared not so much...

I have always loved Tessa because she stood up for her brother and Jared. But after not supporting her after turning her into a vampire really changed my mind about him. No we have his reasons and to me they were lame.

And with Tessa wanting children how was she not more upset about Raven. I mean he kept this information from her for so long. And him being married before and not telling her? She should have taking more time in forgiving him. Yeah no also was not impressed with the "charger" sex scene. It's nice to know Jared was a sharer of women. Not!

I am not liking the dark guardians too much right now. I only recommend this book because of the continuation of the series. Nicole and Damon are still my favorite, he always supported her in everything she wanted if not he at least came across as truly sorry when he didn't. Jared is not a favorite of mine anymore. Even now I don't think he will help Tessa when she needs it. The other mates should have told her everything when they could.

Fabulous story❣️

Tessa is the next story in the Mates series and it’s fabulous😍This one has soooo many emotions coming to the forefront when I read it, that I stopped a few times and asked whether my heart could handle it.....but like most I wanted to know what has been going on with Jared since him and Tessa met and mated and his treatment of her lately had been different😢

A not to be missed story and well worth the read.....I think this one was even better than Nicole and if I could I’d give it more stars 🌟

Tessa, The Mates Book #2 by Teresa Gabelman
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
Lord knows I have been in an uproar over my Jared being a douche canoe to his mate Tessa. I mean I have loved this man since book 1 but I was about to jump ship to #TeamCharger. However, after reading this book, I have forgiven him and totally understand the why for his attitude and major dickness…dickness is this a word…anyway…toward Tessa.
Tessa and Jared have always seemed pretty stable but as the series has gone on, we have seen little cracks in their HEA. I mean first when she was turned and then as she wanted to become a VC Warrior. Like Tessa, I was like WTF JACKA$$. But I tell ya, the woman has more patience that I do because she is a people pleaser even if it hurts her in the end. Well this book Tessa is DONE people pleasing and going to start doing HER for HER and if Jared can’t hang welp that is on him.
Jared, the king of funny joke and sexual innuendo is not doing so well right now. He has MAJOR skeletons flying outta the closet and he can’t slam the door fast enough. The poor guy is trying to put out fires without giving away his past but with not dealing with everything PROPERLY he is not putting out the flames but inflaming them.
There were lots of teary moment in this book. Seeing Tessa and Jared dancing around the issues and not really facing the problems out of fear of losing the other one actually made it 100x worse for both of them. Seeing and hearing about the impending bad dudes made the fear even more real for Jared which made him even more of a mess!!
When everything comes to a head, I had tears but seeing and feeling Jared’s pain made it even worse. Friends this book was everything we have needed to see between Jared and Tessa. They were no longer able to hide and no longer able to dance around all the issues.
I love the main series but the Mates series you seem to get more one on one with the OG couples and that makes me so happy!!!

Teresa just raised the bar. Tessa is an incredible read that will have you screaming, crying, laughing and then crying for joy. Teresa has a way of pulling you into her stories and keeping you immersed so deep you never want to come up for air.
Tessa has always been the one to be whoever she needs to please others. Now she wants to be the Tessa she needs to be for herself.
Jared is messing up big time. He’s keeping secrets to protect those he loves but is he doing the right thing?
I didn’t see this storyline coming at all. I knew Jared was behaving like an idiot for a reason but wow. SENSATIONAL SENSATIONAL SENSATIONAL.
Can’t wait to see where Teresa’s mind takes me next.
I RECOMMEND THIS TO ALL

This book is so freaking good! It made me laugh out loud, so much so that SK (Shitty Kitty) came running and talking to me, then she loved on my leg. It made me sob. When it did, Jimmie walked by and said " another good book?" I was riveted to the book! I could not put it down. I believe this is one of Ms. Gabelman's best books to date. She just keeps getting better. OH My Goodness those Warriors and Guardians are super HOT! I advise you to get your copy and start reading. Please get a box of tissues and have water and snacks ready before you start. Like me you won't want to put it down. One of the best reads for me this year! From a Forever Fan... Pam James

Loved the book but felt it was more about Jared than it was about her(Tessa). spoiler: Honestly the explanation of him(Jared) treating her like shit in front of everyone to keep her safe from demons blows. Especially since its emotional abuse and her defending Jared by saying no one sees how he cares behind closed doors ugh just irritates me. Anyway great book I love almost all things vampire, but Tessa could have had a better story.

Ehhh

It was ok, so angsty! So much drama that I didn’t enjoy it. Jared was really messing up & could just fix everything if would just come clean. But he just let fear rule him & so messed up the people important to him. So I didn’t like most of the book since it was about him messing up and she suffering for his stupidness. Too much angsts for me, of course he finally came clean in the last chapter and she forgives him because he didn’t know how to handle his emotions and then it just ends, bam! done! Yeah I wanted more of them when they got their relationship good, so other than that a most people will enjoy it, I just don’t like angst.

Although the main focus is on Tessa and Jared all the characrers are here and there's a few scenes where it's serious and Steve is just shoveling food in his mouth, “I can’t stop eating.” Steve walked over with a full plate. “This is my third plate. Do all Kentucky women cook this way?” It's good to know Jared has some boundaries with his bros, “for the love of God, will you put some pants on?” Jared also poured another drink. “I’m not talking to you while your junk is in my face.” I liked this book, I can't wait for more of the women's books to come out.

Not impressed

This book reminds me of those romances where the Hero treats the Heroin bad throughout the whole book/story, but when the Heroin finally gets up enough nerves to leave the Hero, the Hero begs the Heroin to take him back. I mean.... REALLY! The excuses the Hero comes up with for treating the Heroin bad is really weak. Even though the Hero treats the Heroin bad throughout the whole book, (SPOILER ALERT)... at the end all he has to do is tells her he loves her and she forgives him. These kind of stories are not for me. No substance and weak.

Hmmmm

I wanted to love this book. There was a lot of build up for it, so I don’t know if it was my own expectations that caused my ambivalence. Tessa tried hard to be strong, but wasn’t quite there yet. Jared is a complete ass, and if I were Tessa I would have left him and never spoke to him again. The book seemed a little rushed - Tessa really should have knocked some sense into Jared. Hopefully the next book will be better - the series is a great series, I think there was just too much lead up with this book.

Depressing

I was kind of sick to my stomach throughout this book. I was hoping that if I stuck with it that the end would make it worth the unnecessary angst, but I was way wrong. Jared and Tessa's unhealthy relationship will always be a bane of contention for me in this series. Less of them please and more of, well, anyone else.

Tessa

I read some of the reviews for “Tessa” I have to say I disagree with the negative reviews. I found the book to be refreshing, deeply emotionally straining, self doubting, as well as a whole host of psychological damage that needed to be dealt with. I like that TG dealt with these hard issues and exactly what they can can do to a person that doesn’t take the time to really deal with them. Maybe it’s just because I understand what it feels like and what it do to a person that has to deal with these deep seated issues. In my opinion they were dealt with in a way that you could apply this to your own life and circumstances then deal with your own person real life issues. Very thoughtful book and well thought out. T(and you TG for another excellent adventure.

This was a disappointment merely because of the lack of growth of Tessa's character. Jared's excuse for his atrocious treatment of her was so lame and didn't what so ever deserve her forgiveness and acceptance. I thought that she would grow some backbone in this series but alas she's still allowing people to trample all over her. I really don't like Jared, he's selfish, obnoxious and arrogant and expects Tessa to take whatever he dishes out AND that's why this book was so disappointing because she actually did. I wish she had stood her ground and demanded some actual changes and true remorse from him.

She’s me

I totally identify with Tessa. Though I didn’t suffer the physical abuse, the verbal and psychological abuse were horrible. My Dad was a minister who had an affair and left when I was nine months old Somehow that was my fault because I wasn’t good enough. I was never enough. When my Mother passed away, my sister told me I should have never been born. That constant barrage of self doubt defined my life. I even married a man who was quick to have affairs since I was lacking. Yep, I was Tess personified.

Tessa is a strong and caring warrior whose difficult childhood had a significant effect on her relationship. Once she stood up to her father, she realized her own worth and made her mate understand how strong and caring she was. I bought the paperback and one of the most hilarious areas in this book is on page 117 when Tessa was talking about her Gramps and firebugs, "Well that made no sense at all. Lights needed electricity, and I don't see no plug up their butt."

Scenes from Jared and Tessa’s (temporarily) unhealthy mating contains quite a bit of navel gazing from Tessa along with piles of info to show her survivor’s strength plus info about Jared that maybe should’ve been shared in his outing. Also, there are a few punches to the gut and the heart plus one warrior succumbs to his own battle scars.

Next mate in the series

Having Tessa's story in the mix is great! This is also filling in some of the gaps in the main tales which helps, especially since I have not read this as a part of the main series! It is my recommendation that you do so.
A great read and I look forward to more of the series

A Must Read ..

Jared’s mate Tessa has unfinished issues to deal with and most of it is with her mate ..Jared the funny guy slash nice guy is a jerk in this one as he thinks protecting Tessa is hiding his own issues from her. You want to shut the book and chuck it at the main characters ..that’s why it’s a must read ..the author pulls you into the read.

Love Tessa

Tessa is a complicated woman. She has a lot of emotional baggage from childhood trauma. And to an extent, she continues to be a victim by allowing g herself to be controlled by her warrior mate, Jared. In this book Tessa takes a stand. And Jared is the one who must confront and deal with his own traumas. Great book.

Amazing series and book

I am loving this series and this book is no exception, the fact that we are going back to some of the original couples is great because we get to see how they are getting on and what troubles and tribulations they are having, the writing as always is great, the stories flow beautifully, well worth getting.

After everything he put her through over the last four or five books and then in this book his reasons were lame and his begging forgiveness not enough. Tessa took way too much of his rubbish especially when he basically admits to loving another woman (who and why come out later but still) any normal woman when faced with that would have left, she still wanted to apologize to him, really?

Tessa should have walked away permanently. This was the definition of a toxic, emotionally abusive relationship. I’m not even exaggerating. If a man treated me that way, my feelings would be dunzo. Honestly if a man lied to me the way Jared did to her, i would have walked.
