A poliferator demon is on the loose. A heretic plans to usher in a demonic apocalypse... ....as the Nine Kings of Hell prepare to wage war.
After battling frost giants and demons, Vacinne and Renlar find themselves in the burning town of Trader's Haven. They are hot on the trail of the escaped demon and its master. Though they don't see eye to eye on many things, the headstrong holy warrior can't help but admit that her and the Black Blade form a deadly duo.
They must move quickly though, as the demon has already begun laying eggs in the dwarven city just north of them. The stage is being set for a full-scale demonic invasion. With each step, they draw closer to the demon and to the truth. Vacinne begins to realize that many things are not as they appear.
I am a firm believer that the Light shines brightest in the darkness. That's not only WHAT I write, but also WHY I write.
It love to explore humanity through fantasy, because it allows us to take ordinary people (and orcs) through impossible situations and see what or who comes out the other side. It is often that through trials and tribulations that we get to see the most honest version of not only our charters, but ourselves. It is through this lens that we can discover truths. That is why I write dark, epic fantasy that dares to hope.
I am a Christian, husband, father of three young children, and a veteran. I have a BA in Communications. I was born and raised in Maine, and currently live in North Carolina. I love spending time in nature, and I especially enjoy hiking and swimming. When I'm not busy writing or chasing after my wife and kids, you can usually find me sneaking away for some quiet time with a good book. Some of the authors that inspire my writing are JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Brandon Sanderson, Steven Erikson, and Patrick Rothfuss.
Dark Pact starts off from the final events of Faith and Fury with Renlar dealing with grief and guilt over killing Sutara. They arrive in Drenamere hot on the trails of the proliferator demon and its accomplice, Warden Masoc. Warden Masoc has been unleashing demons to distract them from his goal to open the rift to the nine hells, and is near the fruition of his plans. In order to catch up to the antagonistic warden, they find themselves needing the help of the Dirt Dogs- a group hunters, thieves, and mercenary dwarves. With the encounter with the Warden, they learn how vastly outmatched they are, but they are "hell bent" on stopping Warden Masoc. Will they succeed or fall short and cause an apocalyptic disaster? What will come of their new allies and the truth behind Warden Masoc's goals? The fast pace, intense fighting scenes, and nerve-racking suspense was something I selfishly enjoyed in this book. I also loved following the masterful character development and growth following the events of Riftborn: Faith and Fury. The amazing chemistry with romantic undertones between Renlar and Vacinne was an amazing element of the book. I am quite eager to continue on this spellbinding adventure along Vacinne and Renlar.
As the second part of the Demon Hunters. Is doesn't disappoint. We are dropped back into the action just a day or so later on the trail of Warden Masoc. This time the dwarves are the ones being targeted for destruction. Vacinne and Renlar are still struggling to make sense of what came before while trying to fulfill their quest. Along the way they meet friends and are betrayed by others. In the end they defeat the rogue warden but not before he reveals the depths of the corruption they are facing. Another thrilling adventure that lures you in and doesn't let go until the end? Now waiting with baited breath for the third installment in December.
Vacinne and Renlar continue their quest to stop the renegade Warden Masoc from releasing demons. They go to the dwarf city of Drenamere where literally all hell breaks loose.
Superb high fantasy. The dwarves society came to life for me, and the deepening relationship between mercenary and young paladin changes them both. Exceptionally well written dialogue and character development. I loved this book!
Dark Pact picks up right where Faith & Fury left off with Vacinne and Renlar in the midst of Trader's Haven. The town burns, but their sights are on the dwarven city of Drenemere. They must move quickly to keep up with Warden Massoc and the trail he's blazing. But one important question still remains: is Massoc good or evil?
With a slew of battles with demons and action around every corner, this book will keep you turning the pages. The budding romance between the two main characters becomes more evident, yet still subtle.
I can't wait to delve into the third and final book to see how it all ends!
