This book has so many layers and it is so good. Enter Kenya Schumere she comes from a wealthy and privileged family. Enter Elijah. He’s a hustler from Toronto. This is not just a girl meets boy story nor is it a rich girl meets thug type of story It’s much more and is full of life lessons. I enjoyed reading this book. Every chapter I would stop and discuss it with my cousin to get her thoughts.Highly recommend this one.

Whew! This read was so delicate and heart-wrenching. It pulled at my heartstrings so many times. Nako definitely knows how to pull the emotions out of you. I had so many moments while reading this book. After reading this book you should definitely have a new perspective on life, love, relationships, friendships, and you as a whole.

I love to read books that leave me thinking and that's exactly what Nostalgia did for me. This book was far from a typical love story, but was still very interesting to read. I won't lie to you guys, reading this book was emotionally draining. It's so much toxicity in it I felt like I needed a good therapy session after reading it. But in the end, I found peace just like the main character. Kenya Yvette Schumere was a piece of work.
"On the outside looking in everything looked good. She was America's Sweetheart yet, she felt like a victim and demon all in one."

In this story you will meet Kenya Schumere, a strong black woman focused on tackling all work related goals, but failing miserably at building solid human relationships. Also you'll meet Elijah Sadier, a strong and loving black man that supported his queen no matter what, even if it wasn't the right thing to do at times. Their story is told through the eyes of Kenya initially, in a book that was written and given to Kenya's therapist, Dr. Mighty-Moore, but throughout Kenya's therapy sessions you will see the inconsistencies in her story. By then end of the book you will just be blown away with Kenya's version of events.

I loved how this book touched on so many real life issues that happen in black families. I can't really touch on everything because I like to keep my reviews spoiler free, but once you start reading you will see exactly what I'm talking about.

By the end of this book I was proud of Kenya. Sis was a good emotional mess, but I wouldn't stop rooting for her to get it together. "Reading Kenya's book shifted her perspective on love, loyalty and what it truly means to live a life without limitations." This was precisely what I took away from this book. I took several deep breaths during this read, but by the end, I was truly at peace.

We need an entire series about the Schumere family. I hated the characters but loved the complexities of this book. I've read mostly all of Nako books and with this book I can definitely see how she's growing and expanding. She has always been top tier now she's about to take over!

This book did leave me wanting her to write a psychological thriller.

Color me mind blown!! I was literally torn to shreds only for the plot twist to snatch me by my edges. 😩😩a part of me still feels for Kenya; she was a boss, regardless of her shady behavior! I loved this story!

Me, Myself and Love

Kenya Schumere was beautiful, came from old money and felt soo isolated from her mother. There was no love. Only from her aunt Yvette whom she was named after with her middle name. Kenya is bound to follow in the footsteps of her family as the Schumere’s are prestigious, polite, rich and never fail. After studying abroad in Spain Kenya returns home to do what she wants to and that is to write. Abruptly her life is snatched back into reality when Papa Logan tells her she will do what she is destined to do for the family. In NYC Kenya is working at one of her families publishing companies and hanging with her Co Jain Dana. She meets Elijah one night and with all of her naivety she still believes he will be hers. Dating and getting to know each other turns into a beautiful move to DC where Kenya is forced to go and Elijah gets into some trouble so he comes with her. For literally the next 10yrs Elijah and Kenya make a life, have a child, lose a child and discover their lives are slowly drifting apart. Kenya is the face of Good Morning America and she needs help! She was drowning in liquor, lies from herself and family and and then theirs the truth Kenya will seek help from recommended therapist Dr Mighty-Moore. Famous Nia Hudson recommends Kenya and a new relationship is built. Kenya needs to love, smile, have friends and remove herself from isolation. Through Dr Mighty-Moore Kenya and the Doctor will go on a journey that is really unforgettable. Kenya is broken in soo many ways. She is now engaged to a famous basketball and the son to her agent, Tammi. Mental abuse is just as worse as physical abuse and between the fiancé, her mother, worrying about her aunt Yvette and the story she will weave Kenya will have you still trying to figure her out for a long time but we will. Nakoreya takes us on a true definition of understanding and learning your truth and with clear concise prayers that I needed. Kenya Yvette will rise out the ashes but this is a hell of a storm! Everyone has a story and this one, man!

Nostalgia

OMG! Honey, this story had me yelling, frustrated, crying, and praying while reading this book. My husband would walk pass me mumbling I had issues cause I kept talking to myself lol. I’ll say this GOD is so good and without him in your life, you don’t have a life PERIOD! I truly related to some issues Kenya had, I’m sure we all can relate to her story in real life. I will also say, just because you have money doesn’t mean life is easy. It’s a false illusion that we were brainwashed to believe at a young age. Unless you have god in every aspect of your life journey, don’t believe the hype, life is brutal at times! In this book Nako got deep, raw, and down right dirty, and I enjoyed every word written. I’m a avid reader, and enjoy a good book, ESPECIALLY Nakos books. I put her at number 1. She’s real with her writing, and each time she puts out the best stories in my opinion! I always want more when I’m done reading her books. I will continue to read her books because she always keep it interesting! Thanks Nako.

Kenya Yvette Shumere is what one would consider a complicated mess. She comes from a well-to-do family, that insists on controlling her every move. In her attempt to take back her life, she makes major decisions that ultimately affect her future…in private. This includes her immediate family and her passion for writing.

When things really begin to spiral downward, someone recommends therapy, and this is when it starts to get interesting. In order for the Dr. to get a better understanding of her life, Kenya gives her a journal/manuscript which documents her story, and how she can't get over HIM. What happens after this is nothing short of crazy!

I just want to go on record as saying that @nakosreadinggroup had me sliding down the wall from GO! Never did I imagine that this emotional roller coaster would leave me feeling exhausted. There was so many secrets and lies that came out in this book, and I highly recommend that you check it out for yourself. The theme of sisterhood was also a winner for me. I wish that I could give it more than 💎💎💎💎💎.

WOW!!

I don’t even think there are enough words to describe this book. I will leave no spoilers. I will just say thank you Nako. Thank you for being brave enough to expose the faces women carry because of “family expectations.” Thank you for continuing to shed a light on domestic violence and show how its not always the ending we want but definitely the one we need. Thank you for expressing the sincere need for healthy female relationships grounded in faith and friendship. (Thank you for always bringing Nia Hudson back - she my fiction mentor/bestie). Most importantly - thank you for showing how important mental health is - especially for black women. This entire book deals with the issues we as women of color face daily and often hide. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry. Most importantly it will make you smile because this journey is a journey to joy.

Thank you Thank you Thank you! And God Bless

WOW

Nako has done it again with a book that will have you in your feelings, emotionally drained and reflecting on how to do things better in your own life. Very well written and great character development. Kenya definitely had her flaws but it didnt help that her family was all about perfection, image perception and failure was not an option. She was so lost in what others would think and pleasing those she came in contact with that she began to mask the real Kenya. I was really rooting for Kenya and Elijah to work on getting back together but Kenya needed to work on herself first. We sometimes tend to get so wrapped up in other things that we tend to lose focus on ourselves which can lead to a downward spiral of self destruction. What this book has taught me is to love yourself and if things get too rough, there is nothing wrong with seeking counseling. I really enjoyed this book. Excellent job Nako.

Ugghh I had to do it. I’m so confused!

My mind is blown and my time is gone that I can’t get back. I was so heavily invested in a book that even though I couldn’t get into I couldn’t get out of either. Reading is my favorite hobby and Nako is one of my favorite authors but I want to read a regular book this isn’t a regular book. Why Kenya gotta be so messed up in the head. I didn’t know what was real and what wasn’t. So many pages I read for them to be lies then for them to be cleared up in two paragraphs. After that I didn’t trust this book any more and began to feel very upset at this point. What was the purpose of her causing so much havoc in her life to lose the man she truly loved. I couldn’t get a clear picture of where Paige came from. That was crazy!! Then her father was he sleeping with his wife’s sister and got her pregnant. The other children that were supposed to be Kenya’s siblings. Like it was too much. Email me if you can clarify this for me.

WHEW! This is not your typical love story but when she finally falls in love with herself watch how she soars. This is unlike any other Nako book you have read before. Before you begin you need to keep your mind and heart open and a bottle or two of wine ready to pour because this gets deep. This was so raw, so beautiful, so honest, so heartbreaking, so frustrating all in one. Nako my visual storyteller can I have my edges back?! Most importantly your mental health must come first. You have to be honest with yourself and hold yourself accountable. Things will not change unless you put the work in. Be purposeful and intentional. Nostalgia reminds me that regardless of how great I remembered things to be in my past holding on to it is hindering me from my future. I have to let it go and let god. I'm blocking my blessings but not anymore. Thank you!

Nostalgia: A B-Roll 💘 Story

Kenya Yvette Schumere-Sadier was a spoiled rich girl who meets Elijah Ahkil Sadier, a guy who made his money in the streets. Man, these two characters went through difficult times in life as well as their relationship. There was a murder, a family member on drugs, the deaths of other family members. Also mental, physical and verbal abuse in these relationships.

True life issues. Most found comfort in therapy, church, real friendship and love. What a surprise ending for Kenya & Elijah that was not expected. I would definitely recommend anything written by Nako fir your enjoyment and guilty pleasure. I plan to check out "Living Single" by new writer, K. Yvette.

Nako’s Pen

I felt like I was on a trail reading this book; it was heartbreaking. But that’s the thing about a Nako book—her characters go through some real-life struggles, and not every couple is destined for a happily ever after. That’s what makes her writing so realistic and relatable.

This is why I love her pen; she doesn’t just create perfect stories. These characters face challenges, and I feel like I’m right there with them, experiencing their pain and triumphs. Elijah was a standout character; he was patient and complex. For Kenya I wish she had sought help and seen a therapist early on. Their union could have been so beautiful if only she had received the support she needed.

Overall, this book was good, and even though it was emotional, it left a lasting impression on me. Nako’s ability to weave real-life issues into her storytelling is truly amazing

I Could Not Stop Reading!

OMG!!!
I LITERALLY could not stop reading this one, it captured my attention from the very beginning. I adored Ms. Kenya and Elijah's characters. NAKO hit a topic that still seems to be a stigma in the African American community, " Therapy " or seeing a Therapist.
I know for me and where I'm from it's a foreign concept to see a Therapist for anything. I know better as an adult that it's a healthy choice and a wide decision. This is an awesome read, if you're ready for a riveting story to keep you on your toes you cannot go wrong with this one!

The Evolution of Nako!!!

I hardly ever leave reviews (I read so much it can become daunting) but I had to circle back and give this one 5 stars! The story is not only a well-written interwoven fabric of life, but it speaks directly to the evolution of Nako, the woman, the writer, the wonder! I’m so Godly proud of you! I enjoyed your other books, but this one spoke to me. It embodies the struggles of our skewed sense of reality along with the defiance that lies play in our real world. Are we a product of our life or is our life a product our experiences? Loving. Leaving. Growing. Healing. I see all that, not just in this book, but in you. Love you to life! - REC Family :)

It was something.

I love Nako, read all her books, definitely one of my favorite authors. top 3 no doubt. but this book was different, idk how to feel. this is probably the first book i read from Nako where i didn’t like the main female character. But I loved me some Elijah, from the very beginning and felt so bad for him at tims. This book was also a little too slow. I was more than half way through the book and felt like i i didn’t get nowhere. Was also a little confused with the time line sometimes regarding paige & her age. Nonetheless it was a good read, just very different from her other books. Wished Kenya and Elijah ended up together tho.

Wild Ride

When a character, who is a therapist, needs to partake after meeting the main character of the book…and you want to get a drank or two yourself…I can’t even imagine what the author needed writing because Kenya was off the chain. I hate is that you never get the full background story, which for me, makes the tale a little unfinished. I almost decided to dislike Kenya and Elijah…but it was made clear that both had some serious issues before they met, and some things that made them icky may have been creative license in Kenya’s manuscript. All in all, this was a really deep, somewhat confusing, good book to read!

I love Nako and thoroughly enjoy her books. This book was no exception to this. However, this one took me on a journey. I was so stressed over Kenya, I literally couldn’t sleep. I fell in love with her and him (Elijah). I cried for her and then I began to dislike her; Kenya was just too complicated and a beautiful liar.

After the journey, I really wanted, no needed, a happy ending for Kenya and whilst she got one, it was not the way that I wanted it. I’m heartbroken 💔.

I need a few days to decompress and to get over this one. Kenya and Lijah have imprinted on me.

Nako is a blessed author.

Too damn much

This book was; I don’t even know what to call it. Nako definitely needs to research her time lines when she writes book that suppose to happened in the past. The year Facebook came out was incorrect, the Martin Luther king memorial mentioned at the time in book was incorrect. I don’t know how to really feel about this book, it was emotionally draining. I read books to take a break from my reality and to make me feel good. However, this book suck the life out of me and I really didn’t like the ending.

The courage is in the work

I would recommend this book to anyone that feels that where they are is where it has to end for them. If a person is willing to put in the work and everyday attempt to place one foot in front of the other along with support and having people around them that will hold them accountable then there can be hope and change for the future. I enjoyed reading this because it shed so much light on the importance of seeking therapy. This was a very much needed read. Thank you.

I don’t know rather to scream or cry. I did both! I thought the Underworld was by far my favorite but this has went on the list next to it. I cried during this book. I thru my phone. I walk away. This was definitely worth more then the 5 stars giving....this book was awesome Nako nothing less from you. I had high hopes for K and Elijah but this book was reality for some and unfortunately people get tired of our shit and MENTAL HEALTH is very much so real!!!!! Thank you for this 😌 some of us really needed this book!!!

Loved it

I actually loved the way that the author developed the characters in the book. Although, I know that there is a season for everything, I was honestly hoping that Kenya, Elijah and Paige got back together as a family. This book touched on mental illness, depression, physical and mental abuse and brought to the forefront that money can’t buy you happiness. I am a strong advocate for therapy, but unfortunately most African Americans do not want to get help. I’d definitely recommend this book for reading.

Nako held nothing back in this book. Just when you thought you knew the story, Nako gave us the truth! This book was so reflective for me and caused me to examine what is true love even self care. Black women carry this burden to excel which is often to our demise and Nako revealed that truth! We must, MUST examine all things entering our life and be ready to let every toxin and toxic people go...we have to stop bearing others cross and carry our own. Don't put Nako in the box as far as your expectations as a writer, just don't. She got me with this one...yes indeed.

Hypnotic

This book had me up and down with Kenya and her theatrics! Valuable lessons learned that because you are born into wealth doesn't mean that you're psychologically intact or happy. Secrets almost destroyed Kenya, but Dr. Mighty saved her life and gave her the strength to acknowledge her wrongs into rights. Kenya deserved her Happy ever After once she found herself. Elijah deserved his happiness and to receive the love he desired. Great read and Nako keep creating excellent reads!!!!

Such a beautiful story of love love and found!

Wow! This was such a beautiful story! Kenya really went through a lot! So many bad things happened to her. I just knew her and Elijah would get it together but the saying is true some people come into your life for a reason, season of lifetime! When the whole truth spilled out, I knew it was too late for them but in the end they both found closure and happiness. Nako, this was a great read one that I truly enjoyed reading thanks for a beautiful love story!

A soul search

This book reads like a fantastic mini tv series But does have some of the characters in the other series. Who didn’t I like, Kenya!! But as the book went on and I learned her, I loved her and rooted for her. I loved the message behind the book and the openness. This book was like a page in your journey being shared to help someone else in that situation. It’s a must read!
