కొండపొలం [Kondapolam]

నల్లమల అడవుల చుట్టుపక్కల గ్రామాల్లో వర్షాభావం చేత గొర్రెలకు తినడానికి మేత, తాగటానికి నీరు లేనప్పుడు, వర్షాలు పడేవరకు తమ గొర్రెలని బతికించుకోవటం కోసం గొర్రెలకాపరులు అడవిబాట పడతారు. మళ్లీ తమ ఊరిలో వానలు పడి గొర్రెలకు నీరు, మేత దొరికే వరకు అడవుల చుట్టూ సంచరిస్తుంటారు. ఇలా చేసే వనవాసాన్ని స్థానికులు కొండపొలం వెళ్లటం అని వ్యవహరిస్తారు. కొన్ని తరాలుగా ఈ గొర్రెల కాపరుల కుటుంబాలకు ఇలా తరచు కొండపొలం పోవలసి రావటం తప్పకపోవటంతో, ఒక ప్రత్యేకమైన జీవనవిధానం, పద్ధతులు, ఆచారాలు ఏర్పడ్డాయి.

ఈ వనవాసానికి గుండె ధైర్యం ఉండాలి. ఎడగండునీ, చిరుబులినీ గుర్తుపట్టగలగాలి. పెద్దపులి ఆనుపానులు తెలుసుకోగలగాలి. కొండజ్వరం రాకుండా చూసుకోవాలి. ఈ నిత్యజీవిత సాహసయాత్రలో మనల్ని భాగస్వాములను చేస్తుంది ఈ కొండపొలం నవల.

Epic Tale of Becoming

"Konda Polam" by Sannapureddy Venkata Rami Reddy is an inspiring and motivating book that leaves a lasting impact. The well-written story revolves around Kataru Ravindra Yadav (Ravi), whose character arc is commendable. Ravi chooses to join a group of shepherds on a challenging mission. They embark on the traditional practice of "Kondapolam," taking their cattle to graze in the hills where wild animals and thieves pose significant risks.

Ravi's transformation to a forest officer is remarkable. Through his journey in kodapolam He learns survival skills, faces danger, and discovers newfound confidence. The rugged terrain becomes a metaphor for life's challenges, and Ravi's resilience resonates with readers. The dialogues are very good, especially the one , "తినాల నాయినా! పస్తులుండి ఏడ్సేంత బతుకులు కాదురా మనవి. ఎవురో మారాజులు ఇంట్లో పరుపు మీద కదలకుండా పండుకొని నాల్రోజులైనా కూడు దిన కుండా ఏడ్సుకొనే దశమంతులుంటారు. మనకేడయిద్ది? చమురుంటేగాని వత్తి ఎలగదు. తినాల... గొర్లెనక తిరగాల... ఆవడిగాలుల కాలం... ఒక్కపూట తినకున్నా యాలబడిపోతావు... నువ్వు మాకన్నా ఎక్కవ తినాల. ఎందుకంటే- నువ్వు ఏడ్సాల గదా!"

"Konda Polam" has become one of my favorites. Overall, this book deserves a solid five out of five stars.

సన్నపురెడ్డి గారి కథా కథనం లో మనకు ఎంతో సహజత్వం కొట్టొచ్చినట్టు కనిపిస్తుంది... అనవసరమైన వర్గ వైషమ్యాలూ, ఇజాలూ కంటే మానవత, సాధారణమైన మానవుల్లోని దౌర్బల్యాలూ, వాటివల్ల వాళ్ళు తమను తాము లోను చేసుకునే మానసిక హింసా అత్యాద్భుతంగా చిత్రాంచబడతాయి...

ఇటువంటి అద్భుత జీవన చిత్రణ మనకు మున్షీ ప్రేమ్ చాంద్ గారి కథల్లోనూ, డాక్టర్ కేశవరెడ్డి గారి రచనలలోనూ కనిపిస్తుంది...

పేదరికం, వివక్షల మధ్య నలుగుతూ తమ గొర్రెలను సంరక్షించుకునే దయనీయమైన కథ ఎంతో హృద్యంగా సాగుతుంది...ఆ నేపథ్యంలో ఒక కుర్రవాడు ఎలా అడవినుంచీ అంటే ప్రకృతి నుంచి జీవితపు పాఠాలు నేర్చుకుని ఆధునిక జీవన సంవిధానం లో ఆ అడవుల్ని పరిరక్షించే అధికారిగా ఎలా ఎదుగుతాడు అనే కథను జోడించి అద్భుతమైన అడవికథను ఒక వ్యక్తిత్వ వికాస పుస్తకంగా మార్చారు సన్నపురెడ్డి గారు.

A must read if you have a family background in village/agriculture/animal husbandry/other professions that demand physical labor. It provides many life lessons -personal and professional. It can also be viewed as a book for personality development, confidence boosting as well as a guide to finding your purpose based on your experiences. The book highlights the confused and anxious state of the educated young people in current and previous generation who are disconnected from the life and work of their parents and ancestors. The books ends with a conviction that, to succeed, you have to commit to your work completely until you become the work itself, just like a person who rears sheep or who grows crops!! The love, understanding and admiration of the forest and wildlife is the underlying emotion.

Very Unique book, written on Shepherd community who goes to forests on Hills and Mountains in search of Grass and water for feeding the herds of Goat and Sheep during the summer. The lives of the shepherds are well portrayed in the book. It is filled with the descriptions of forests, forest animals, trees, communities depend on forests, the destroyers of forests etc.

The characters in the book speak in their local dialect which is very sweet. The reader will know names of lot of animals, names of trees. The description of the forests, the lives of the shepherd is very detailed.

I read that Mr. Venkataramireddy worked for 15 years to know every detail about the concept of 'kondapolam'. His efforts must be appreciable for digging out the community and their lives.

గొర్రెల పెంపకంతో ముడిపడిన సామాన్య జీవితాలను ఇతివృత్తంగా చేసుకుని ఎంతో అహ్లాదమైన కొండప్రాంత పరిసరాలను, అక్కడ నివసించే జీవులను జీవన విధానాన్ని కళ్ళకు కట్టినట్టుగా ఆవిష్కరించారు.. నల్లమల్ల అడవుల అందాలను, పరిసరాలను అడవిలో జరిగే అక్రమాలను పరిచయం చేస్తూనే, తనలోని భయాన్నివిముక్తినిచేస్తూ తనకు ఎదురైనా క్రూరమృగాలనుండి తన మందను తనకు అండగా నిలిచినా వాళ్ళను ఎలా గెలిపించుకున్నాడు అనే ఒక సామాన్య రవీంద్రయాదవ్ కథ..

ఈ పుస్తకం మనకు ఇంతవరకు చూపులకు మాత్రమే పరిచయం అయినా అడివిని కాకుండా మన ఆలోచనలకీ దగ్గరగావుండే అడివిని పరిచయం చేస్తుంది

An interesting observation on the life of nomadic sheep raising community of Andhra Pradesh. The author has succeeded in carrying the essence through his dialect of the people and characters in the book. Though some episodes seem repetitive, the book is an interesting read. Recommend it.
