When Kate runs out of money on her backpacking adventure across Europe, she has to share a bed with a whimsical Russian prostitute named Tatiana to escape from her life a little longer. The two girls find blissful escape in each other’s company from their problems at the opposite ends of the social spectrum. Kate is all but disowned from her own family after getting her father sent to jail during the rape trial of his business partner while Tatiana enjoys a rare respite from her short lifetime of sex slavery. When the realities of Tatiana’s profession separate them, Kate calls on the only connection she has left in order to overcome the forces of the mafia and international terrorists to reunite with her unlikely love. The rich, powerful and abusive dominatrix forces Kate to make the hardest decision in her life about how she uses her body to fight for love and control of her own destiny.
I was given an ARC of the book in exchange of an honest review. My views are unbiased and in no way influenced by the author or publisher.
I was attracted to the book by the Title of the book, which as is with forbidden things, I found very alluring. But I was not prepared for what lay inside. The title is only mildly put as Trigger Warning. If the title does not push you away then read on. The book is not for the fainthearted or for a prude, as it may shock the sensitive capacity.
The plot is quite unique and well dealt with. The book revolves around two female protagonists and is their tale of love and life. Kate is a free spirited girl who goes on backpacking trip across Europe. But more than backpacking its her way to distance herself from her family. Things go wrong when finances run short. She is forced to move out of the hostel she was living in. That is when she notices an advertisement for a tenant. It immediately catches her eye and she contacts at the number. Little did she know that the owner of the number is Tatiana, a Russian prostitute. Driven by her circumstances Kate begins to live with Tatiana, where Kate is supported by Tatiana with no expectations. The girls develop a bond that transforms both of them. Kate embarks on a journey of self discovery and self love, and accepts her feminine power. Both fall in love, transforming under the warmth of each other's company. Their heaven is soon disturbed, but I won't break the suspense here.
This book beautifully deals with the topic of hesitation in masturbation, self exploration, same sex love and other areas. The writer has a clarity of thought and hence the expressions are exquisite and well expressed. Never do you feel that the author fails to express her view/ POV about the topic dealt with.
This book was a novelty for me as I have never read a book that deals with lesbianism, and I admit it made me uncomfortable at times. But the beauty of the writer is how she treated the love with class and elegance and not made it seem crass. If you've read and enjoyed Fifty Shades, then you will enjoy this book too. It has shades of S&M, though its interlaced well with plot. Crisp writing style and command over the plot, makes it a nice read. There is never a dull moment or episodes that make you belch. But I would give a Trigger Warning, do not pick this book if you cannot understand LGBTQ. Or if you have issues reading what happens between the sheets. I hope you get my point.
