Elegant Experiments is a three-volume set of science experiments in chemistry, physics, biology and geology for the teacher and student. The set caters for all ability levels. Volumes 1 and 2 form a nucleus of experiments for junior and senior science. Volume 3 contains more unusual experiments, and a greater variety of experiments, in the same subject areas.
The books are spiral bound with black print only to enable photocopying and each one contains 100 experiments. Each volume contains two pages of introduction entitled "Using this Book." Facing pages of the books have a student and teacher copy of the experiment respectively. The teacher copy contains descriptions of related science topics, hints, expected results, sample conclusion, diagram and risk assessment level. The risk level classifications are low, mild, moderate and hazardous (demonstration only). There are also instructions on practical assessment for the teacher The student copy has descriptions of equipment, procedure, and a diagram and is write-on, having a space for the student's name.
There is no table of contents, but instead, there is an index by science area -Chemistry, The Earth and Sky, Physics, Biology and Scientific Method. There are topic area subdivisions within these. The experiments are listed by title under these subheadings in order of difficulty with page references.
There is one experiment for every two pages. The arrangement is straight forward for both the teacher and the student. The Risk Level on each teacher's copy not only classifies the risk level but also explains the risk and states the safety precautions to use.
The books are particularly useful for teachers regardless of experience or status. They will save preparation time for the teacher and the laboratory assistant. They will reduce student costs since no expensive laboratory manual is required for each upper school subject. Photocopying is permitted, provided the photocopied sheets are not bound.
