An AMAZING worldwide adventure with Francis Lymond during the Tudor reign! I read the complete box set of the Lymond Chronicles and was very impressed with Dorothy Dunnett's writing style, her exquisite sentence structure, her incredible historical research and the length of her novels.
Dunnett’s vehicle was Frances Crawford to tell this story that ranged over Europe, the Mediterranean, Russian and the Ottoman empire. Amazing writing, vocabulary, and literary references. I am surfeit.
I read all these books many years ago and found myself completely locked into the series. Following the doings of Lymond and his fellow characters shed light on the exciting and interlinked histories of the period. I wish I could write like her.
Too many late nights reading at 2am reading this series. It's really my kind of thing - long books, complicated character progressions, historical detail, cast of individuals.
First read these at age 14/ 15...didn't understand it all. I have re-read the series many times. Love the historical span, the machinations of the courts and courtiers. The heartache and heartless, the intrigue; it's a fascinating journey every time I dive into the world of 16th century politics.
