Draco Malfoy has a mission to complete, and no one can help him. Spending nights stuck on Prefect duty with Hermione Granger only adds to his problems. Doesn't it? Or is it possible that their unlikely relationship could alter the course of the Second Wizarding War -- if the Boy Who Made All the Wrong Choices can get this one thing right?
Come for the medium-burn Dramione, stay for Magical lore and new twists on the canon we love (and love to change)
4.5 - unlike the one Dramione I read that took *too* much from canon, this one had a perfect balance of the new and the canon. I particularly like this author's philosophical approach to magic (thank goodness magic was never on the back burner here) as well as her "fixing" of things that must have bothered both of us from canon. Worth the read for sure.
Okay, this book took me an embarrassingly long time to read. I started reading this in May and then I hit a slump in the middle of the book (idk I got bored I guess) and I finally finished it in July. Once I got back into this fic I really enjoyed it! It wasn't one of my favorites, but it was definitely a fun one to read. I personally liked how there was a Theo and Hermione moment in the book, because I've always been curious as to how their dynamic would be. If you like love triangle moments than this would be a good fic for you!
6th year is not what Draco thought it would be. Instead of enjoying another year at Hogwarts, he is tasked by Voldemort to kill Dumbledore and rebuild the Vanishing Cabinet. He knows he's been set up to fail but what choice does he have when his parents are threatened by the most evil Wizard known? Hermione's year at Hogwarts started as she thought it would, with the exception that she had to work closely to Malfoy as prefects since none of the other students seem to be able to handle him. Even though their patroling started disastrous, with both of them continuously insulting eachother, over time they came to form a friendship. With the war impending and them being forced into rival sides, they're relationship is doomed from the start and the fact that Draco lied to her all this time and let Death Eaters into school the night Dumbledore died, didn't help their case. Will they be able to overcome they differences and find they way back to eachother? What happens when you love the boy that betrayed you?
Ok.... so I'm conflicted about this fic. On one hand, I didn't really like it and was about to DNF it halfway through, one the other hand I really liked it and want to add it to my library.
I'd like to part this fic into two parts. The first part is Draco and Hermione's 6th year at Hogwarts, where the story and everything began and the second part is what comes after, starting with the Horcrux hunt and Draco's escape. The part that I didn't like was the first one. It held no interest for me and dragged on about random things that Hermione and Draco did together. Their relationship changed from one moment to another and the story strayed from the original plot. Yes, Draco was still trying to accomplish his missions but the most we saw was him with Hermione spending time together and being mushy about it. They made casual appearances together as if it wouldn't be weird for the entire school to see them together and all of Slytherin and most of Gryffindor were absent in this fic which was strange.
I actually liked the concept and would've loved to see more of Draco's struggles with his task and his feelings towards Hermione, as well as Hermione's involvement in all of this and her trying to help him change sides. I didn't really get the feeling about the War that was looming and found the story pretty boring. Then Draco let the Death Eaters enter the school and everything changed.....
The second part for me begins a little after Draco and Hermione reunite while they're both stranded in the Woods. That was when I started to get into the story. The writing changed and all the characters improved. That's when things actually started happening and we spend less time with Dramione being mushy and more time on the challenges they had to face. Harry and Ron started to play an important part to the story and other characters made appearances too. From finding themselves at Nott manor to destroying the Horcruxes, things became interesting and the fic changed character. You could actually tell how much better the writing became from one moment to the next and how the author planned the story to go out. If this had started out this way from the beginning, it would definitely have made my favorites list but since the first half of this fic was dragging.... I feel a bit torn. One thing is for sure tho, I will be checking out this author again and read more fics of them.
This was my first Dramione ever, so it has a special place in my heart. I loved the beginning and the tension between Hermione and Draco, towards the middle i got little bored and stopped reading for awhile, and when I started reading again it got interesting and loved it a lot. I like the balance between the canon and new things added.
I appreciate this author’s deep dive and the philosophical thinking. I really LOVED reading her notes, almost as much as the story!
I look to read more from this author. Thank you for this experience <3
This story has so much potential, and I genuinely love the plot. But oh my godddd it drags on so long for absolutely no reason. And that’s coming from someone that loved The Fallout. I DNF’d this at about 65% because I just couldn’t do it anymore. Will probably come back to finish in the future
This was sooo good for the first like 65%, but after that it got boring. Honestly, I still love this, even tho I abandoned it at some point. Might be reading this later, but we’ll see.
