Fresh off his victory at the System Games, Anthony Tinoco is living a life he never could have dreamed of. His family is safe in a brand-new home, he's enrolled in college, he has an incredibly hot girlfriend, and, best of all, he gets to fight monsters for a living. Unfortunately, some things are too good to last. Unbeknownst to Anthony, an old enemy has started making moves from the shadows, sowing seeds of destruction and plotting his revenge. When a random dungeon appears and begins spreading its corrupting influence through his old neighborhood, Anthony is forced to confront his own personal demons and take action or risk losing everything that he’s worked so hard for. Little does he know, however, that while he may be the target, he's not the one in the crosshairs.

If you liked the first book you'll likely enjoy the second installment. This is a YA LITRPG series, even with that said I enjoyed it, which is odd considering how much I dislike YA stories as a whole.

Book two

Mistakes: I did find a handful. Needs another run through by an editor.
Plot: Having to save a friend from his foe from book one.
I honestly had a hard time getting into the book. Once the MC stopped being a moron the story picked up nicely. The MC never stopped being stupid though.
Characters: The MC is a hothead. This causes him to do really stupid stuff and really slows down his growth. There is a nod to him trying to improve on that, but I don't big it. Him thinking he is a one man wrecking crew with such low levels alongside his stupid actions make it hard to like him.

Has potential but...

The MC has gotten worse since book 1. More naive, more immature, and now more stupid. He is not fitting in with the new company. Could be a better book with a different main character. The World building is great and the story is believable. It could be a 5-star book if it had a different main character. He is simply an idiot.

Disappointing

The story idea and concept for this book have so much potential and could be so good. But at every turn the author decides to make the story subpar. The MC, who should be getting smarter as he increases his intelligence and wisdom never gets any smarter. There is no growth from him at all. Stat points increase but it doesn’t affect anything. I just really wish that the MC was in any way competent.

Different twist to litrpg

I enjoyed both books in the series, so far. I like that the storyline interconnects with the everyday world and has to deal with both regular and enhanced characters.

No more story

I enjoyed the story again with Anthony learning and growing but the ending left way to much open. It feels like a Firefly situation. The ending lead you to believe that there is much more story to be told. Come on RAM. More Alpha Please.

series is regressing

This is my last novel in the series it’s a bit much too YA. MC is supposedly in college and has had to assist in raising his sister and working to support family. He is too immature

Continued excellence!

Had a good time reading this book and am sad it is finished. I like the characters that are being developed and their advancements. Good action, fast paced, with some new content I have not seen before, which is refreshing!

Right up front, I will say that this is not a knock-your-socks-off kind of book. It could have been, but I feel like the author kind of lost the thread of whatever it was that he was trying to accomplish. Building as a sequel to book 1, there were multiples opportunities for our MC, Anthony, to grow and develop, and he just ... didn't.

That's not to say that the story isn't good. It is. But I can see where it could have been better. The beginning sets up the big bad as the same guy that got away in book 1, but even though he set up the main issue for this book, no one makes the connection, so it falls kind of flat. Lost thread.

Anthony continually makes thr same mistake, pointed out to him by his girlfriend, when clearing dungeons with the team. He acknowledges that it is a problem early on, but makes little effort to change it until the very end. Lack of character development.

Despite those issues, I did enjoy the story. It hits the "LitRPG in the real world" tropes and handles them fairly well. And, to be fair, if this hadn't been a sequel, I probably wouldn't have noticed the issues discussed above. It just felt like the author rushed to get the book out and didn't really spend the time polishing what could have been a fantastic story. And that's sad. I lament what could have been, because the threads are there. They just weren't pulled in for the final weave, and the story is poorer for that.

Meh

To be honest I did enjoy the story for the most part. Mejia sets up intriguing worlds and creative scenarios. The system skills for everyday activities is a nice touch, and the villians are perfectly stereotypically hatable. I just wish he would let his main characters man up a bit.
They are always weaker than everyone else, overshadowed by the female characters in the story, who will without fail walk all over him, CONSTANTLY. I'm not demanding an overpowered MC with women fauning over him at all, just a competent male that isnt constantly hounded for screwing up in some fashion or another, his fault or not...There just doesnt seem to be any equality, a theme carried out through all his books. The main character is a pushover, who is constantly needing to be bailed out of whatever situations he finds himself in, and even when he does manage to accomplish something on his own, he has still managed to screw something up...and he will get a lecture, which he will just take, beating himself up over it. It gets tiresome, and I find myself irritated on behalf of the wimpy MC, who isnt able to stand up for himself without causing further problems. All main characters have a learning curve, and they will fail as well as succeed. But dang, man, give the guy a chance... R.A., please, just man up the MC a bit, and tone down the constant harping, and you'll get a much better score from me!

Great Second Entry

Loved this second installment. It took me a minute to re-immerse into the story after the time between books. But after that it was thoroughly enjoyable. The characters are interesting and the bit of world “blending” works well. I enjoyed the mash between “game world” and real world. It’s well done in this series. The mash up is more believe-able in the world with the MC’s relative “newbie” learning curve. So much in fact that I was getting irritated with the MC at certain points. Don’t get me wrong he’s a great character but he irritated me like rewatching the first few episodes of a favorite tv series again. “Come on you should know better than that.” You know more about the world than your Fav character does at that point then you slowly see them grow and learn. Love the series so far.

I don’t really re-read series very often. Once I’m through with a book I usually don’t come back until there’s another one in the series. I’m definitely going to have to do another readthrough of these books. Can’t wait for the next one.

Generally a good sequel, I do like the range of stories this setup is able to tell.

My main issue is that Mejia sort of retcons Anthony at the start. Remember at the end of the last book how he big a super star he was? Tons of companies wanted him, his skill, team work, an strategy allowing him to beat a powerful team? Well forget that, he's now really bad at team work and strategy. Not only that, but new hires to the company openly mock him for only being on the team because he's dating the boss. O_o

I know he wants to give him an area to have character growth, but that was a bad choice, especially when arrogance would have worked better and been nearly the same story arc.

Main Character is ANNOYING!

This series would be really great if the main character wasn't so unlikable. What an IDIOT. Everything about him was annoying. He was creepy with women, he was clueless about a system he'd been using for OVER A YEAR, he was just plain STUPID. And it seemed like it could have been so much MORE! He could have improved himself, trained his physical stats, trained his magic. It just seemed like he had one great ability and it was wasted on him because he SUCKS at everything else. After a year he is still doing single digit damage .good grief.

Okay universe and a interesting hero

Out hero isn't overly smart, but he is a good guy, and does his best, and is lucky, the universe is not bad. There is a powerful competitor for our hero in the book which is a bit Harry potterish in how he singularly dislikes our hero, which I think is the books only flaw, and it is interesting at how easily it is to gain skills which can cause balance issues but a nice book i think most of us will enjoy reading

Good book with an occasional gut wrenching Desiree to stop reading *spoilers ahead*

Anthony doesn’t seem to be able to learn from us mistakes and continues to do the same stupid things over and over again. He still keeps winning though at the expense of people around him. Still it’s a good book and cannot wait for the next one.

Enjoyable Read

I enjoy this series because it follows a cool spin on the system idea - with a system in place in the modern era. It almost reads like an Urban fantasy series, but in a good way, with power up fights and stats and dungeon grinds / skill grinds.

Pretty good second book in the series. It's every bit as good as the first, and makes me look forward to the third one. If you're an LitRPG fan, and especially if you liked the first one, you really don't want to miss this one, add it to your want to read shelf today.

Good Read.

A LitRPG story. The story continues from the previous book. Interesting dungeons that lead to some character growth. I liked the story. Will look into the next book when it comes out.
