Derek “Timber” Johnson was the biggest bully of all at my high school.

I hated him then.

I definitely still hate him now.

I hate his cocky smile. I hate his perfect abs and his dirty mouth.

I hate the way I can’t find the right words whenever he’s around.

This 100% Grade A hunky mountain man is chopping down my inhibitions and making me question my long standing grudge.

Will a one night stand really leave me wanting more or is he still the same jerk I knew back in the day?

Timber is an over the top steamy mountain man enemies to lovers novella with no cliffhangers and a guaranteed HEA.

Can she get out of her own way to see the possibilities he can offer?

Timber by Candi Kush is a sweet short story about what happens when you come back to the town you grew up in after 10 years and still carry all the hurt from your youth with you. But when people are not what they used to be, or what you had thought them to be, can you see the actual path that is available to you with all the wondrous possibilities at happiness.

Marlene had escaped her small town 10 years ago. She first became a nurse and has been working at a traveling nurse for several years. She has arrived back in town for the summer to work at the local hospital in the ER and moved in with her sister. Let's just say that she carries more baggage with her than just the clothes she owns. It seems she was a bit of a nerd in high school and as such was bullied and tormented, along with never fitting in with the rest of the crowd.

Derrick, aka Timber, went to school with Marlene and was one of the guys that teased and tormented her. He is a logger and owns his own logging company. However there has been tragedy in his life because his father, who was also a logger, had an accident that caused him to be paralyzed from the neck down. Timber always had a soft spot for Marlene so imagine his surprise when his truck is rear-ended and Marlene is the other driver. He cannot believe how good she looks all these years later and he definitely has a reaction towards her, even though she caused a little damage to his truck.

One thing leads to another, some funny, some sweet, soon where you just want to hit someone (although Timber takes care of that) as he tries to prove what things could be like if she was with him and she thinks WTH let's have a bit of fun since we are both single consenting adults. But will Marlene be able to overcome her own issues and see some things more clearly to be able to see what Timber is able to offer her as a future?

I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the story of Derek (Timber) and Marlene. They went to high school together in their small town and Timber was popular and Marlene was bullied and she couldn't wait to leave town. Now years later, Timber owns a logging company and he is caring for his father who was injured in an accident. Marlene returns to town to work as a nurse at the hospital after travelling and working all over. When Marlene accidentally runs into Timber's truck, he takes her to the DMV to renew her license after the accident. When Timber asks Marlene to go to a party he is throwing that night, she agrees, thinking it will be a chance to live out a teenage fantasy. Timber always liked Marlene, but he was scared to tell her and now he has his chance, but things don't go as planned. I really liked this book. I liked Timber and think he was a good guy who matured a lot from high school when he picked on the girl he liked. Marlene also needed to mature and realize she wasn't the friendliest to anyone in town. Good one.

I love a book that is a quick read but that leaves you feeling like you have read a full length book. That is this story with Marlene and Timber. Marlene is a traveling nurse and finds herself back in her hometown. Her first day back and all kinds of things go wrong which have her thinking returning home is a mistake. Timber is the guy she secretly crushed on in high school and at a low point in her day, she crashes into him literally with her car. Timber is more than what he shares with everyone. He is now running the family logging business and doing his best to care for his Dad. He was injured in a work accident and needs constant care. This leaves Timber feeling guilty that he can't do it himself. This is a fast paced story with a whole lot of love packed in.

4 1/2 Stars! I liked it!

Rated purely on my enjoyment level as I read this short and flirty romance! It was a relief to see Marlene go back to her hometown and finally get the closure from her tormented teen years. Socially awkward and picked on by the cool kids, she never realized the persona she gave off that egged on her isolation.
I loved the way she got to be a better person, especially in the eyes of Timber, her secret crush and childhood tormentor.
Seeing how Timber responded to Marlene and was totally focused on winning her favor was sweet and romantic.
A very short romance, but full of fun! A great summer read!

Now she has returned to visit her sister and the situation hasn't changed that is until when chasing after he sister she bumps into Timber one of her main tormentors. They see one another different now and as things progress between them Timber tries to prove his worth and Marlene realises she was her own worst enemy. I really enjoyed this read by Candi Kush. As a traveling nurse, Marlene never wanted to return home. She hasn't forgotten being teased and tormented by the kids at school. Of course her first day home she runs into her high school crush, Timber. If possible he is even more handsome now. Timber cannot believe Marlene is back. He finally has a second chance to get it right.. Will Marlene be willing to settle down or will a prank by another former classmate ruin their second chance? Seeing how much Timber loves his father will have you rooting for him to get his HEA!

Going back home never been this interesting. The story was all about making peace with your past and accepting that people changed and grown some for the better, some werent. It was interesting how the book laid out and not solely focusing on MCs but also bits on the small city community. Though i wouldnt mind if the books added bit more romancing and sexy time from MCs. Good quick read of enemy turned lover.

The age of maturity
It's a short but good story between Marlene and Timber, based on them taking a step back because they have had a heavy past, and allow themselves to rediscover each other.
Marlene is forced to return temporarily to her hometown, where she suffered from the behavior of a group of boys. However, when she finds Timber, she goes from fear to attraction because they all have changed.

Marlene was always teased and insecure when she was young. She left town and became a traveling nurse. Now she's come home for a 3 mth assignment. She literally runs her car into the 1 person she crushed on, Timber. He has always wanted her, but never felt he had a chance. Now after one time together, he knows she us the one for him. Can he convince her?
