officially DNFing this series - I don’t like series that have adult people in their mid to late 20s acting like children and being bffs with children and also having a 16 year old girl being a viable love interest to an adult man. No thanks I’m good ✌🏻

Daytime Shooting Star vol 4 keeps us guessing about the forbidden romance between Suzume and Mr. Shishio. They go on a date, get the blessing of his ex girlfriend and return to school a little changed. I’m not really into this relationship at all. It’s icky for teachers to prey on their students from positions of power. Mr. Shishio I think realizes this but it’s part of his character to run from problems like this so having his embrace it instead is supposed to be a big deal. I just don’t care.

I am totally intrigued by Mamura and Yuyuka, Suzume’s two friends. I don’t really care if the two get together but I just find them intriguing as characters. Yuyuka hides her strong willed personality which I think is a mistake. I liked that in this volume there is an upperclassman who sees Yuyuka for who she is. I hope something happens with that. And I loved meeting Mamura’s family and learning his first name!

The cover of this volume is super cute! I love single character covers so much more than the character groups. Unfortunately I want to love Daytime Shooting Star but I just don’t. I’m not a fan of the forbidden romance and the love square is stressing me out. With reluctance I’m not going to be reading this series anymore.

Might be my least favourite volume of the series. Shisio stumbling along and blurring the lines between teacher and students was painful to read. At least he himself knows that he is a horrible person who seems unable to take the correct decision as a teacher and mentor.

Poor Suzume is falling in love for the first time and it happens to be someone unattainable. Mamura and Suzume noticing a shooting star seem to be foreshadowing the future. I cannot wait to get past the next two volumes for the real romance (that is legal) to start.

Someone said "I hate that he's leading her on. Yes he may have feelings for her but he knows it's wrong. He's an adult and she's a kid. He would never be in a relationship with her, yet he keeps doing these things. He needs to act like a real adult and set boundaries. When he suspected he had feelings for her, he already should've set boundaries. Better yet, an adult should never be THAT close to a minor if they aren't a relative. It's kinda creepy" y tal cual, hermana.

3 de 5 estrellas.

As much as I think this series is very well written with beautiful artwork, I absolutely cannot give this volume a good rating because of the terrible, terrible teacher/student age gap relationship here. It's a personal rule not to give a series with that type of relationship more than 3 stars no matter the quality of the story, and the way the Yamamori is presenting it here is so egregious that I would normally just abandon the series and never look back. However... it feels like there's no way the teacher/student relationship is going to be endgame here. There are enough alternate love interests already that it feels like the author is prepared to include some character growth and transition the characters into more age appropriate relationships. So I'm going to keep going and just hope that I'm not eating crow by the end of this series with the teacher and student getting married or something horrible like that.

I like this, but idk!! Why is Shishio a teacherrrr!! He's so cute, but like please don’t fall for the high schooler. Like she's a first year!! They’re kind of cute together, but like come onnnn. Mamura is right there! I want the crushes to shift. Like Suzume and Mamura, Yuyuka and that new dude, and Mr. Shishio and.... idk an adult??

had more cute moments with suzume and satsuki which makes it harder for me to decide who i want to be endgame.
although with a near 10 year age difference and satsuki being suzumes teacher it’s not my favourite, especially when he’s blowing hot and cold he needs to decide his feelings.

mamura is still a cinnamon roll.

I'm really starting to get into the story and like each character for who they are and not only for the couple they may be one day with someone else. Does that make any sense ? ^^

Suzume is one of the few manga heroines that i really have come to like. She is so down to earth, casual without being too boring and a person i would gladly like have to befriended when i went to school.I also like how gradually but slowly her relationship with Mamura develops, it is such a slow burn since she only sees him as a friend...but damn how irresistible he is!

Eu não aguento mais esse romance absurdo entre aluna e professor, plmdds, chega logo o momento em que o Mamura faz algo e acaba com essa falta de noção, e o mangá finalmente ganha sentido no meu coração.

When we last left our heroine, things were messy. When we rejoin our heroine, things are messy. Suzume’s tumultuous whatever with Mr. Shishio continues to be incredibly poorly defined. Yuyuka’s attempts to do anything with Mamura are still fraught, and Tsubomi manages to be a menace even on her way out the door.

This book is so good. It’s the freshest take on a student-teacher romance I’ve ever seen, by virtue of having Suzume who should know better, but is too young, paired against Shishio, who definitely knows better but is too dumb/impulsive to act like a proper adult. You can see him continually at war with propriety this entire volume.

This would normally drive me nuts since it isn’t likely to go anywhere - I think this series has a different end game in mind (I see you, Chekhov’s shooting star) - but it really works here because the author is doing her best to make it at least seem plausible and it does! You’d almost believe this is heading into some serious territory (I mean, there’s already been a lot of line crossing).

Suzume is the bedrock of this book - she is charming, likeable, and straightforward. In terms of what she wants, even if she’s acting on a schoolgirl crush, she is more honest and direct than Shishio. The way she tries to force him to own up to his feelings, whatever they might be, is refreshing.

Yuyuka continues to be the perfect support character, helping Suzume up her clothing game and also arranging things ever so sneakily at the aquarium. I particularly like the contrast of her being so free with advice and assistance to Suzume, while her own relationship attempts flounder hopelessly.

Throw in a little more more time with Mamura, showcasing Suzume’s skill at selecting fresh fish, and preparation for what will undoubtedly be an eventful school festival and you have a really fun time buried between these pages.

If there’s anything I don’t like, it’s the introduction of the annoying as hell “School King” who has a crush on Yuyuka and comes on with all the subtlety of a Michael Bay movie and is roughly as loud.

Yuyuka seems to soften on him a bit at the end and I hope that doesn’t go anywhere because him browbeating her into acquiescence is a plot point I could do without.

4 stars. All the pieces are moving and while we might consider some of those moves rather illegal, watching it all play out is proving utterly fascinating. And, as always, this might be my absolute favourite art of any shojo book.

A date, a new haircut, new departures, new arrivals. A new male character who's the typical popular guy with an ego who reads into every situation too well. I'm sure we all know why he's here.

The series so far: we don't see much of anything. Her school life, friendships, her home life with her uncle. Every time there is a big reveal, it's treated very casually and everyone just moves on immediately, like they're all so well adjusted it's unsettling. And the reveals come one after the other at such a fast pace!

"I do things without thinking about consequences".. He literally said it. That's an adult who knows that he can get away with doing stuff with a teenager..
(I am fine with age gap when the older character doesn't abuse the situation)

Suzume deals with it pretty great for a teenager but still I hope somebody with sense puts an end to this..

Great to see more mamura!!
I am kind of digging the new character.. Already love his dynamics with yuyuka.

Its ma BIRTHDAY BTW!

falling in love with someone older than you does not work out most the time believe me I’ve experienced this :// they can make you feel like their leading you on but their just being their self. But there's a certain point where you gotta put a limit on your actions especially if that person is younger than you.

I like how smart Chun-chun is she really confronts her feelings even though she’s being lend on by the teacher she actually tells him. I don’t understand the hate for the teacher honestly, he even told her he doesn’t want to lend her on but he likes spending time with her. like this is the first manga where people don’t like the age gap. But like we don’t get enough scenes with the student soo? But damnn I really do feel bad for the student, Basically all the ships Unrequited love SUCKS!

But overall I don’t really feel emotionally attached to theses characters.

*4.5*

“In front of Chun-Chun, I can't pretend. I don't think first, and I always get involved in something troublesome. Well, how do I put this... although I can't clearly get to the point, I'm really happy to be with Chun-Chun.”

Though this volume had a bit of a slow start, it had a very strong finish. The relationship drama is getting really good, and I'm enjoying every second of it. Sensei's heart seems to be turning towards Suzume, but he's still trying to keep his distance. Meanwhile Mamura and Suzume are on speaking turns again, which doesn't seem like much, but it was actually a super sweet and precious scene. I'm also really happy that the mangaka wrote in a new love interest for Yuyuka, he seems to be a much better match for her, I can't wait to see their feelings blossom. Now it's time to read the next volume, and get a nice view of the cultural festival (which is always a favorite of mine in manga).

Seems like at least for now it is fully going the teacher/student romance route so this series is a big NOPE for me.

Coming back after reading Vol 8. I almost didn’t want to continue this series after the 4 & 5 vol but hear me out. It gets so much better. Trust. Girl. Trust!

Spoiler/if you’re considering DNFing

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. It feels like her relationship with Mamura is growing & it so innocent & heartwarming.

Suzume, thinking that Tsubomi is back in Shishio's life, is now trying to move on from her unrequited love. However, things are getting more complicated because Tsubomi is actually leaving, and that sparks a little hope in Suzume's heart. The fact that Shishio is not maintaining his distance (he is the adult in the situation here, it is his job to enforce boundaries) and while their interactions have a veneer of friendliness, there's also the fact that Shishio is way too comfortable in this scenario. And you know who is not helping? Tsubomi and Yuyuka! Like, stop encouraging this - Tsubomi especially had joked that Shishio shouldn't be with teen girls, so I don't exactly understand why she basically gave her 'blessing' before moving out of town. And Yuyuka - look, I know she is herself in love, and so the world is rose-tinted or whatever, but supporting Suzume is not the same as engineering dates between her and an adult guy who is much older that her!

I like the story from Suzume's perspective a lot - she is growing up, having first love and all the complicated feelings that come with it. The portrayal of that uncertainty is nailed so well by the author. But when it comes to Shishio's perspective, I am like nope. Aside from these two, the other interaction I loved was Suzume inadvertently landing at Mamura's house (which reminds me, Suzume, why are you following strange men?) and them being hella awkward. Sorry Yuyuka, I have pinned my hopes on Mamura and Suzume! The other awkward interaction was when Yuyuka and her friends hang out with Mamura and his friends, and she isn't dressed her best. And all this is done in that beautiful character design and artwork style that I still can't get enough of. I am kind of worried where this story is going to go at this point, but I am also eager to see some development happening with Mamura *fingers crossed*

His words back then still press down my throat with happiness and sorrow.

Wow, that started out nicely! Although I expected it to be Mamura's house and all that. Seeing Mamura-kun like that, it really kind of makes you wonder why girls take for granted boys like him. Girls have this tendency to fall for the impossible, leaving behind those who love them, and the latter would inevitable end up hurting. I really feel bad for Mamura-kun. He's the type of character you wish you could hug or something just to alleviate the pain and to make him feel he's not alone.

But for goodness's sake.

That date with Shishio-sensei was too much and they were so cute together. Now I really am so confused and I can't decide anymore. And he always come for her rescue. He's so goddamn sweet. But I also feel bad for Yuyuka-chan, really. All of them are just treating each other the way they are treated - Yuyuku rejected by Mamura, Mamura rejected by Suzume, Suzume rejected by Shishio, and so on. I keep feeling bad for Mamura, but in the end, he's also hurting another.

So another guy arrived! Hello to Minagawa Togyuu! So perhaps that's why I'm not feeling too bad for Yuyuka - it's because I don't think she's good with Mamura. But for some reasons, why does it seem fitting that she'll end up with Minagawa? But it's too early for that, anyway.

Gosh. When Shishio sensi blushed, he was too adorable. And now that he cut his hair, he appears more mature and more like a sensei. And really, he'd do everything for Suzume! I love this chapter!
