Review for “Royal” by Todd Fahnestock
It’s a Tower of the Four short story written by Todd Fahnestock. The story focuses on Royal and the decisions that he has to make to shape his destiny.
The author attracts the readers with his writing style that is easy to digest. The story is a mixture of medieval, Scottish, Celtic and Arthurian legends and Norse Mythology. The main character is similar to Hercules and Braveheart in strength and with Anakin and Luke Skywalker because he falls, then he will rise.
Fendir represents heaven while Keltovar is the image of corruption and hell. The scenes of the jungle remind the readers about the stories of the Aztec warriors that used their surroundings to train for war, while The Spiral Tree is similar to The Whomping Willow from the Harry Potter series and The Tree of Life.
The coming of age, experiencing temptation and making decisions is the most important themes discussed within the pages of this story. The way Marcoul speaks to Royal and his disregard for the importance of The Spiral are indicating his true intentions.
Like in many literary works, there are some things with a special meaning namely, blue – confidence, truth; green – nature, youth, renewal, generosity, inexperience and greed; indigo –obedience, idealism, highly intuitive, the sixth sense, fanatical, conformist; three – number of the Holy Trinity; four – the number of pillars that support heaven, the significant focus on the need for work and productivity; six – easily distracted, shallow, disconnected; seven – divine perfection; eight – infinity, constant flow of energy and power; the vines – clinging to an ideal, belief or way of life in order to ensure security, the determination, will and drive to survive against all odds, the endurance and progress among others over time and the jungle – the untamed nature, isolation from civilization, disorientation, threat, confusion, protection for human settlements in the story since the jungle protects Royal’s home village from enemies.
Truths, lies, adventure, loyalty, betrayal, shaping your destiny, suspense and magic are the words to describe this epic fantasy short story.
Along with C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, J. K. Rowling, Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, Katie Jenkins, Richard H. Stephens, Emily Martha Sorensen, Paula Harrison, Eileen Mueller, Allison D. Este o poveste din seria „Turnul Celor Patru” scrisă de Todd Fahnestock. Povestea se axează pe Regal și deciziile pe care trebuie să le ia să își determine destinul.
Autorul îi atrage pe cititori prin stilul care este ușor de digerat. Povestea este un amestec de legende medievale, scoțiene, celtice și arthuriene, cât și mitologie nordică. Personajul principal este la fel de puternic ca Hercule și Inimă Neînfricată, dar va decădea și se va înălța la fel ca Anakin și Luke Skywalker.
Fendir reprezintă raiul, în timp ce Keltovar este imaginea corupției și a iadului. Scenele din junglă le reamintesc cititorilor despre poveștile cu războinicii azteci care se foloseau de înprejurările lor pentru a se antrena pentru război, în timp ce Copacul Spirală este similar cu Salcia Bătăușă din seria “Harry Potter” și Copacul Vieții.
Majoratul, experimentarea ispitei și luarea deciziilor sunt cele mai importante teme discutate în paginile acestei povești. Felul în care îi vorbește Marcoul lui Regal și nepăsarea față de importanța Spiralei ne indică intențiile lui adevărate.
La fel ca în multe opere literare, există câteva lucruri cu o semnificație aparte: albastrul – încredere în sine, adevăr; verdele – natură, tinerețe, reînnoire, generozitate, lipsă de experiență și lăcomie; indigoul – obediență, idealism, extrem de intuitiv, al șaselea simț, fanatic, conformist; treiul – Sfânta Treime; cifra patru – numărul pilonilor care susțin raiul, concentrare semnificativă asupra nevoii de muncă și productivitate; șasele – ușor distras, superficial, detașat; șaptele – perfecțiunea divină; optul – infinitul, fluxul constant de energie și putere; plantele agățătoare – a avea convingeri ferme și a ține la un mod de viață care să îți garanteze siguranță, hotărârea, voința și dorința de a supraviețui în condiții extrem de vitrege, rezistența și progresul printre ceilalți în timp și jungla – natura neîmblânzită, izolarea față de civilizație, dezorientare, amenințare, confuzie, protecție pentru așezările umane în poveste pentru că jungla protejează satul natal al lui Regal de dușmani.
Adevărurile, minciunile, aventura, loialitatea, trădarea, determinarea propriului destin, suspansul și magia sunt cuvintele potrivite pentru a descrie această poveste fantastică și epică.
