Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen #1-3

Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen, Books 1-3

Rate this book
Scorned by her family.
Banished by her kind.
Hunted by zealots.

Where does an exiled Fairy Queen hide?

A remote mountain cabin, the seedy underbelly of a metropolis, or an uninhabited island. All would be good choices, however, after hundreds of years on the run, the daughter of Oberon, King of the Wild Fairies, signs a binding contract with the zealots that hunt her. In exchange, they allow her to settle down in the last place anyone would look for fairy royalty.

Adopting the name Grace Ann Bryant, the Queen buys a double-wide and moves into a trailer park in the one-horse town of Shady Grove, Alabama. Her contract requires her to lend aid to the local sheriff, Dylan Riggs when supernatural problems arise.

But when two children go missing, the humans point to the trailer park queen helping the sheriff, and the zealots point at the exiled fairy. Grace must decide whether to fight for her innocence or break her contract returning to life on the run.

Bless Your Heart is a Southern Urban Fantasy that will make you laugh, cry, and laugh until you cry, as Grace wrestles with the dark fairy inside herself and starts to see that she’s more than just trailer trash.

This Box Set contains books 1 through 3: Bless Your Heart, Tinsel in a Tangle and Snake in the Grass, plus a preview of Book 4, Comin' Up a Cloud.

Reviews for Fairy Tales of a Trailer Park Queen

Bless Your Heart: Loved it!! New author just found on Amazon very impressed with her storyline. I really enjoy paranormal romance books, and this one puts a different spin on the paranormal that almost all the books I have read so far.

Tinsel in a Tangle: Whimsical, funny., well-defined characters, unexpected plot twists ---- this is a better book than the title leads you to expect, echoes of Shayne Silvers and Jim Butcher. Definitely recommended.

Snake in the Grass: Grace and her friends and family are a great bunch. The author doesn't disappoint in her storytelling and gets you hooked on the story from the first lines of the first chapter. I would recommend this series to all of my friends. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

These books are great. Really looking forward to the next one. I want to see Grace kick her uncle Brock's butt.

Loved this series

This was fun...loved Grace, et al....the story is fast paced, keeping the reader engaged until the end...I'm so looking forward to the next book. There is some language, some unnecessary vulgarity, and moderate love scenes. Overall, well written with only minor typos, as in letters missing, which was odd.

Disappointing

I fell in love with the fairy/vampire/werewolf fantasy genre after having read Charlaine Harris’s Sookie Stackhouse series. The great charm of those novels was their believability. Oh sure, my rational mind told me there is no such thing as vampires “coming out of the coffin” to live peacefully among humans, but Ms. Harris MADE it believable. Between that and the fact that her books were set in the Deep South an area of the country I can relate to, her 13 book series offered a great deal of reading pleasure.

Unfortunately, the only comparison I can make between the Sookie books and the Trailer Park Queen series is that they are both set in the South. Plot holes, significant editing errors and lapses in continuity are one set of problems but the bigger problem in my view, is the fact that I just didn’t like the main character of Grace/Gloriana. While in many story lines, one or more of the main characters may experience one or two bouts of irrationality and impulsiveness, for Grace it is her go-to response especially as it relates to her relationship with Dylan. She would no sooner tell herself to “get a grip” that she would then haul off and do or say something hurtful/irrational/thoughtless. It happened often enough over these first three books that it became repetitive and annoying.

Bottom line: occasional humor is not enough to sustain my interest. Books 1 and 2 are fairly stand-alone novels, but book three leaves the reader with a bit of a cliffhanger to lead you into the next novels in the series. I think I’ll pass.

This box set was great fun. I’d never read anything written by this author before but as the books were in Kindle Unlimited I thought it would be worth a try and I was really pleased I did. The premise is hilarious, an exiled Faerie Princess living in a trailer park in the South of the USA. I loved that though Grace had lived for centuries in the human world, travelling round when she got bored or when people began to notice she wasn’t quite normal, she only really felt at home once she started living in trailer parks in the South. She adopted the persona of trailer park trash with gusto, from accent to wardrobe and language (often foul). However, she kept her head down and mostly stayed under the radar, until she was spotted by an organisation that monitored the Fae in the human realm and she made an arrangement to be left in peace in exchange for her good behaviour and helping out the local sheriff on the odd case. It was this agreement that had her start to care about the inhabitants of Shady Grove, in particular the handsome and charming sheriff, Dylan.

All the characters in these books are fabulous, from little Winnie the girl Grace helps from trailer park,to Nestor the local bar owner.

The plot is fast paced and intriguing and full of banter. It’s fun to read and I cant wait to read the next in the series.

For me 3 stars is I won’t read the author again. I’m generous with Kindle Unlimited stars as not looking to cripple any authors.

That said, I came to the series through words like humorous and romance (romance = happy ending) - not sure where I saw it. This author, now in the blurbs mentions she gets you to cry - she likes to kill off characters - often. I wouldn’t have picked up the series had I known that. Not the simple chuckles I was looking for. I did read more than the first 3, but wish I hadn’t.

She’s vulgar, but with a heart of gold 😉

Started out a bit iffy, and I wasn’t sure whether I’d enjoy this or not, however by the end of the third book, I was here for it, Grace, Dylan, Levi, Winnie, Nestor, and all the other characters were wonderful to follow. This isn’t a happily ever after series, and there are some very real consequences to suffer, but that just made this a better series for me.

I bought this cause I originally read the series with Kindle Unlimited. And I have to tell you I don’t usually bother to purchase books that I can get that way but these? I’ve never run across a series that made me laugh so hard. Kimbra Swain is a one of a kind author.

Well, f*** a duck. (If that's too strong of language for you, then you shouldn't be reading this book anyway.) This series is for people who like emotional roller coasters. I thought the first installment of this so-far 12 book series was good enough, but that I could take it or leave it. Half of me wishes I had left it. The other half is very wrapped up in the characters and wants to see them through the end to their happily ever after. BUT IT TURNS OUT THIS IS NOT A ROMANCE SERIES. Yeah, there's romance in it, but it's more on the dark-fairy-tale/Sookie Stackhouse end of the spectrum - Southern Gothic. No one is safe. Romances always have a happy ending. That's part of the definition of a romance. Otherwise, a romance is a tragedy waiting to happen. I am actually 5 books into this series, and by the end of book 5, there's a major cliffhanger. I HATE cliffhangers. I REALLY hated this cliffhanger. Suspense kills me, especially when I have fallen in love with the characters. And book six is ENTIRELY flashbacks, so you don't know what the h*** happened until books 7 and 8. So I read the blurbs forward on all the books to try to figure out if I should be worried. Then I discovered that book 8 is a really major tear-jerker - ALL the Goodreads reviews said as much. That got me extra worked up. So since this is a Kindle Unlimited book, I checked out book 8 and jumped to the next to last chapter. Let me tell you, I really hate hate hate what the author did. I absolutely can't decide if I want to keep reading. No matter what, I'm not okay with the end of book 8. I can't imagine what horrible things it would take in books 6-7-8 for me to get to a point that I would be okay with the outcome of book 8.

So full on tragedy by the end of book 8. You start out with a light-hearted, funny, southern contemporary fairy fantasy in books one through three, and then it escalates into a bloody awful war and stays that way for more than half the series. Approach with caution if that is not what you're looking for.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW

Reading the Sookie Stackhouse series gave me much the same feeling, but it wasn't as bad, because at least she was just dating, and most of her loves were clearly mismatched to her, and mostly didn't die. And there weren't kids in her life while it was most dangerous. I can live with those conditions, just barely. I fell in love with the 3 leads of this series. It's set up as a love triangle, and I was all for the three of them just working it out - two of them are fairies, after all - a poly-amorous outcome is not crazy in modern fairy tales. If wouldn't have even been crazy in this series' context. Gloriana's father had a whole bunch of concubines. And he must have knocked up two of them on the very same night once upon a time, because two of his concubines gave birth one day apart, and fairies only conceive on the full moon. So the writer could have gone that direction. Instead, she kills off the romantic lead I was most attached to, and to save the life of someone who was really poorly written. I didn't care at all about the person who was going to die if he didn't do the noble self-sacrificing thing. And I blame the writer for that. She just didn't write that character well at all. She didn't write any of the characters that were similar to that one well. I didn't believe that his life was worth that character's life. I had a hard time believing that even he would consider his life to be less valuable than hers. It seemed so fake. (Again, bad writing of the character who survived.) And this is not the kind of death that has wiggle room in it unless that author goes way off the deep end. (This author is prone to "SURPRISE - he's alive after all." Or he's a ghost. Or something.) Nope, clearly doesn't happen. Clearly can't happen for the saved character to survive. There will be no happy ghost Jedis at the end to give the reader closure. All you get is the assurance that the female lead with get through this with her personality intact, because the series is narrated by survivors. It's a very This-Too-Shall-Pass, I Shall Survive, remember the good, not just the loss, sort of message. So, NOT A ROMANCE. Not even an urban fantasy, really, because in those, the hero almost always prevails and very few leads die.

Loved it!!!

I had already read book one prior to purchasing this set however I wanted more Affter reading the exerpt from. Tinsle I a Tangle I loved the research the author put in the book and how the characters world building mythology and magic remains consistent threw out, I love Grace Levi Dylan and Winnie I also enjoyed the fact that each book took up close to where the previous left off. The 12 Yule lads in Tinsle in a Tangle made me chuckle and grit my teeth both and their were times I wanted to throw my phone accross the room. In the third story snake in the Grass u was completely shocked by the twists it took the ending something I never saw coming and again reading the exerpt has left me wanting more will be picking up book four Asap I highly recommend this series five stars

The story is great, but the characters could use a little work. Grace, the heroine, what can I say? She is just dumb. The rest of them are too, for the most part. The story kept changing tone. There were little entrances that seemed to be conversations between characters at some point in the future. This only started in the last parts of the book. Grace kept talking about her love for Dylan but as they were getting settled into their relationship she would jump from complete trust, to taking off her engagement ring, because of course he did this terrible thing that his ex accused him of. Then for the final part of the book, the big bad went from being one person with an agenda to a different character with a completely different agenda. I am planning on reading at least one more book in the series.

Loved these books

I noticed a few grammatical oddities in the first few pages of the first book, but by the time I got to page 20 I was completely swept up by the story telling and if there are any more after that I didn't even notice. I read all three in a few days. Book two was my favorite, the 'bad guys' are drawn from an Icelandic Christmas story, and they're more misunderstood than evil. It was a fun read, with a side of serious... Book three seriously ups the stakes and gives us a genuine villain and life-threatening peril for our heroes. Throughout them all, Grace is learning to unite her two sides, the human mask she chose to put on, and the dark fae gloriana she repressed. In order to truly conquer evil she just has to be herself.

2022 bk 86. I'm really torn on this one. The characters and the plots drew me in - enough that I read through all three of the stories in this collection. Do I want more? Maybe? I loved the main character's developed and developing sense of responsibility, the small town was quirky enough, and the romance maybe a little steamier than I usually enjoy. The problem was that I have read enough folkore lit that I could not suspend my ideas that the child of the fae king would develop this sense of responsiblity towards others, but that is my problem. Maybe I should read it as someone stepping outside their societal inclinations. The middle, Christmas story was my favorite of the three. The authors finding of the 12 brothers of Christmas and using that piece of folklore was precious.

Such an unexpected & outrageously wonderful tale!

"Really? A Fairy Queen living in a trailer park in the south? How can that be anything but trashy?"

That was nearly my exact thought when I first heard about this series some months back. But after being led to try Ms Swain's Alchemist series (as yet unfinished), I found myself wanting to spend more time in her imagination.

So in walked Grace...and Dylan and Levi... Rufus and little Winnie... and I couldn't have turned away if I tried.

Give it a chance. See what I mean. You'll find yourself wishing Shady Grove was your home, too.

These books popped up as a sponsored ad on Facebook, after just asking in a group for Fae books...bonus they are KU.

Grace Ann Bryant is the type of heroine I adore. She’s tough and soft. You see her flaws and her strengths throughout the first three books. You see her grow into who she needs to be and you see her relationships with friends and family develop. She goes from a loner to someone who has people. You see her love for everyone and her town.

These books are different from most Fae books I’ve read, but they are a good different. It’s unlike most I’ve read. They are wholly unique and a great Urban Fantasy series.

One of the best series

This is possibly one of the best series KU has to offer.
The story and plot make you think there are going to be plot holes, but everything and I mean everything, loops back around and toes into the character.
The characters are so well written and real. Grace is a heroine who is strong and beautiful but in a real way that makes you think you could drink orange soda with her, she is just a down to earth character in a fantasy world. But that doesn’t take away the true power she has.
Great series and I recommend it to anyone who reads.

After reading this 3 book series I was entertained with all the research that went into the story of the first 3 books. Thinking it was a fast read, full of folk lore and history. It is a fast read, the adventure of Grace, Levi and Dylan brought you back to life is a bunch of twists and turns. With raising another woman's child, to learning she was not the only outcast in the community, to the elections and evil. The characters are warming and life like. I am hooked and just downloaded books 4 through 6.

Not at all what i was expecting

I chose this selection because the price was right and because I needed something light after some of the dark things I've been reading. I wasn't expecting much. What I got was s delightful world with good plotlines and characters I truly like. My only quibble is that Grace is way too quick to distrust Dylan but I suspect that is going to change. I highly recommend this series and with that said, I'm off to buy number four. Enjoy!

This was an absolutely amazing story. Grace, even though a fairy, was a truly wonderful person. It took her awhile to understand her place in Shady Grove but once she did, She was phenomenal. She handled situations with such amazing spirit, the reader could not help but cheer for her. I enjoyed all three books. I would recommend this series to anyone who loves smart Alec women with extraordinary powers.

Truly entertaining!

Having recently watched an interview of Kimbra and Shayne Silvers I immediately had to grab the first three books! OMG!
What a ride! I am 68 years old and she had me spellbound from the first few pages. Lots of action, interesting characters and emotional ups and downs. Zipped through all three books. Just couldn’t stop reading. Going to grab the next three! Great job Kimbra! Totally impressed! Shaynes books will have to go on the back burner for awhile!🤣

Just wow!!

I devoured these three books and loved every minute. I laughed a lot, I cried, and I fell in love with Grace and Dylan, with Levi and of course with Winnie. I was telling my husband about these books ( he normally just rolls his eyes at my book choices) and he actually said they sounded pretty good, and would make an excellent tv show. Umm yes!!!! A TV show would be perfect!

Awesome!!

Couldn't put it down! I don't usually get box sets as after the first book I tend to stop reading and never complete the set. However, I was curious. Who would think to put a Fairy Queen, trailer park, and Alabama together ?? I'm very glad this author did!! Once I started reading that was it for me. I am hooked!! Great characters, plenty of action and enough romance without being "in your face" with it, and it is just "southern" enough to make me smile😊

Loved the characters, loved the story, the world building was very fun. That being said there were little things that brought me up a little short. There were some bits in the book where the autocorrect went a little buggy. "Their" was written "There" that sort of thing. As a reader, it brings me up short when I have to pause and go..." wait that isn't right"

Welcome to Shady Grove, Alabama, the home of good hearts and vulgar tongues, acts of selfless bravery and selfish, targeted violence. The language is rich here and the folklore is walking around on two legs--or occasionally flying by on wings of fire. Every book gets better. More stories are connected. And the tawdry politics and arguments of our world falls away. It's my new favorite place.

Wonderful!

I was referred to this series by a group of readers who enjoy other urban fantasy books. I was NOT disappointed! This is laugh out loud funny, heart wrenching, and the heroine is kicking butt and letting the sass fly. There are a few small grammatical errors, but nothing terrible. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Grace gets up to in books 4 and beyond.

This is a series with a different slant. Most stories of immortals have them rolling in money but this is a woman struggling with her identity , living in conditions most humans aim to leave, denying who she really is....just like any family this child is denying her roots and finding her own way. Even if she is hundreds of years old.

Sassy, sexy, and in love with the Phoenix. A must read, if you want to know more.

Love this entire series. The characters, location, even the twelve days of Christmas entice you and you can't put it down. I laughed hard and cried. Everything anyone could ask for in a great book series.

Well, shut my mouth!!!

This one surpassed book 1 + 2. Can't wait for book 4. Grace, Dylan and Levi can't seem to stay out of trouble. And Grace and Dylan, goodness graces, stop dying all the time! One day you might not come back around to the living.
Once again I THANK you Limits for taking you thoughts and sharing them with us.
