Lover of complicated people, mysterious things, and unexpected endings.
M. D. Archer writes character-driven mysteries with strong psychological themes. She has a Ph.D. in psychology but quit the angst of the academic world for the rollercoaster of writing. She, unfortunately, didn't leave the angst behind but it was still the right choice. She lives in Auckland, New Zealand, and when not writing can be found either rollerskating, watching TV, or worrying about something.

3 ½ stars. I enjoyed the 2nd one in this series. It’s fun reading a book set in Auckland. Sophie and Paige are likeable characters. The ‘crimes’ are pretty straightforward to figure out, but they are quick and easy reads. I’ll definitely read the next one.
Like the previous story, Devious Things has the main characters in the middle of two mysteries happening simultaneously. They were both solved in a believable manner. Unfortunately, one of them wasn't a fair play mystery and you needed knowledge not given in the story. This isn't too bad because the main characters should have that information.
The biggest drawback to an otherwise lovely story is the number of unresolved subplots that will continue on to future books. Yes, real life doesn't have everything wrapped up all at the same time, but this isn't real life and the increasing ongoing plotlines from the first book is frustrating.
If you are going to continue with the series (like I will be), this won't be a problem; however, I can see how someone would drop the series before getting any resolution.
Paige and Sophie get a corporate job doing psychological testing. Sounds dry but, the corporate guy is trying to get into Sophie's pants! They each go off alone to investigate clues.
