Sometimes people may read me ranting about my intense dislike of shitty SJW characters and assume that I dislike female characters. Not true! I just despise the shitty SJW ones. Thankfully, Nicolas Jarry's wonderful French fantasy series not only does not do so- but has written a great one shot story with a phenomenal female character that I deeply enjoyed.
Tiss of the Shield is a great story. One of the best from an already excellent series. Tiss' father is a great warrior, but their particular fortress does not allow females to be warriors. Her father barely pays any attention to her and when her little brother is born he heaps his attention on him, until during an attack by ogres his knee is shattered and he will never become a warrior. This tragedy leads her father to become a shadow of his former self and hide behind drinking, while treating his daughter and son like shit. Tiss decides to train to become a warrior and against all odds she succeeds. But it is the events of her leading a group of dwarves that must hold a fort against a huge army of ogres where she truly shines. Bear in mind this isn't YA or SJW fantasy, this is a dark, brutal, grim and very violent world that Jarry has created. Tiss will pay the ultimate price, but it is in the nature of her battle and the outcome where she truly earns a spot on my list of bad-ass female characters that I respect.
Awesome tale. Great artwork. If you have not read any of this amazing fantasy series, shame on you. Do so immediately and then compare to the shitty, dervative, SJW pandering female characters that seem to be all the rage in other comics and you will understand my dislike and contempt for them.
Just when you think Jarry can't surprise you, he takes his game to another level and writes an issue that surpasses his previous work. This is a bittersweet story about a daughter who wanted recognition of her father, of breaking the social molds, of bitterness carried for no reason. If you want to start reading this series, then no need look forward. Since each issue is a standalone story, I suggest to start from this one.
Mal sehen was wird :)
Wow, loved this work, heart-warming and bittersweet at the same time. This is French comic translated into English, the theme being fantasy. This one is titled Tiss of the Shields. It’s standalone and can be read by itself.
Each volume of the series focuses on one of the guilds in the Dwarves society, this volume is based on the shields, the warriors of the society. The story focuses on Tiss, daughter of a high ranking warrior who wants a son who could carry on his profession, but life doesn’t go his way. Tiss wants to be the son her father wanted and decides to be the first woman shield warrior. This is the story of her struggle to be accepted in a man’s society. The authors an excellent storyteller, fast-paced simple stories, still emotionally rich and with unpredictable endings.
The artwork is excellent, It’s has been consistently superb all through the series.
This volume was among the best in the series, kind of ties with the excellent first & fourth volume.
I liked We finally get to meet so green-skins ! But that's a detail which just adds to a high quality storytelling, increasing pace, for once focusing on a female dwarf - even more interesting a she evolves in a ancestrally patriarchal society. I disliked Ok, nothing. So.. Once again, I wasn't able to guess where Nicolas Jarry was leading us. It's been the case this whole season, and I'm impatient to get a chance to read what's coming next !
Album Świat Akwilonu: Krasnoludy tom 5 w dużym uproszczeniu można więc określić opowieścią o krasnoludach, ogniu, walkach z orkami/ogrami, przeznaczeniu, determinacji i próbie spełnienia rodzicielskich oczekiwań.
I like the story about a female who tried to impress her father, to get his approval... Which should never have to be the case! The most horrible in the end is that she tried to fix his mistakes and the approval came too late if it even came... I feel bad for the children in this story but it is sad reality for some people.
YES !
Excellent and brilliant from the start brace yourself for a roller coaster right from the cover! :D Three dimesnional characters all with their motivations and neatly teying onto other series! Full to right from the start and overflowing with world building, three-dimensional characters, heroics, adventure and action! :D Brace yourself get it when you can crisp high five! :D
This is really really good. Soleil has done a much better job than one could expect with the Nains and the Elves serie and this is one of my favorite among all. I can't wait for season two.
