USA Today bestselling author Regine Abel is a fantasy, paranormal, and sci-fi junkie. Anything with a bit of magic, a touch of the unusual, and a lot of romance will have her jumping for joy. She loves writing hot alien warriors meeting no-nonsense, kick-ass heroines. Her novels are steamy, action-packed, and with the twists and turns you never saw coming.
Before devoting herself as a full-time writer, Regine had surrendered to her other passions: music and video games! After a decade working as a Sound Engineer in movie dubbing and live concerts, Regine became a professional Game Designer and Creative Director, a career that has led her from her home in Canada to the US and various countries in Europe and Asia.
The hero was the first six born Xian Warriors. Except him and another guy who still hasn’t got their soulmates yet, his other brothers already had theirs for decades. So, he almost giving up of hope and thought she probably already dies.
When one day he met her, he couldn’t believe his luck and acting like an idiot 😳🙄😂. Luckily he pass his awkwardness soon, but because of that I found myself liking this heroine much more than the hero.
She is strong, sweet and knows exactly what she wants and tell the hero off, if he couldn’t makeup his mind fast enough! 😘.
Still full with actions, and her power is a new things for this series, really a wonderful and strong new power and she made a quick connection with the next book’s hero too ❤️. That guy really need a break 😬.
Quick(ish) Review - Xian Warrior series (spoilery, you've been warned)
Book-specific
Chaos: Best love scenes, hands down. Liked Sabra and Chaos’ chemistry a lot and actually seeing the Big Bad in action were highlights. The ones where the romance works almost as well as the overarching storyline.
Overview of series: I have mixed feelings on this series, but it's the worldbuilding that keeps me coming back. It's an interesting concept, a race of warrior hybrids, made up of Kryptid(giant bug)/dragon/human whose souls can be transferred to Shells, so they can face incredibly dangerous battles, die and still come back in a new Shell. So much of the way the heroines interact with them is due to their psychic powers, which manifest differently depending on their ethnic backgrounds (Caucasian women are Vessels, Black/Brown women are Portals and Asian women are Shields). It's a touchy subject, to break down their powers based on race, but by the same token, I'm not upset at exploring a world where differences are acknowledged and celebrated rather than trying to homogenize everyone's experience. If nothing else, I find it a unique way to look at this 'verse and to build this big conflict of good vs evil with Kryptid General Khutu, the Big Bad of the series, who's hell bent on galaxy domination, of course.
When it comes to the romance, that's where the biggest issues I have with the series comes into play. One of the foundations of this 'verse is the heroes know immediately if the heroine is their soulmate. Now, I can get down with insta-love on occasion, but I want that to be the beginning, not the end all-be all of their stories. Too many go straight to forever love, and I'd rather watch them work for it. But I'll go more into that below.
This is a very hetero-specific series, which I find limiting, and there's moments when the sex scenes happen that aren't as sexy as intended (feeling any kind of fire/burning during sex isn't my bag, but hey YMMV).
So in closing, I'm kind of middle of the road on this series because of the romance aspect, even if I am fascinated with the world it inhabits.
Xian Warriors rock! Chaos is simply awesome! Sabra is new to the Vanguard, an invaluable addition to the team. After years of training, testing, she is ready to join the Xian Warriors in their battles against Kryptids. She is unique; with skills never before seen in a psychic. And she wants Chaos. I am fascinated with her abilities, her strength in using them, and the depth of her growing love for one of her Xian heroes, Chaos. General Khutu remains the most horrid of enemies, always creating the most horrifying creatures in an attempt to overwhelm the Xian Warriors efforts to stop his reign of terror. Assistance comes from the most unanticipated source. As scary as the battles are, I love the way this story plays out. Sabra and Chaos are awesome together, and I see hope for the future that seemed remote in the past. I will eagerly await the next book to see what that future will bring. Chaos and Sabra’s story had me on the edge of my seat throughout. I needed a breather afterward to soak it all in!
You know when you can’t put a book down? That was this book!! I am a HUGE fan of this series by Regine Abel. Sabra is a talented physic who, upon graduation, gets pulled into a very important mission with the VanGuard. Chaos has waited a very long time to find his soulmate. When he meets Sabra he knows she is his. But in the height of a mission, his OCD has him hesitating to make his claim. Will they get together before circumstances pull them irrevocably apart?
This book was SOOO GOOD! You'll see characters from past books and lots of action. The steamy love story within is super special, too. I loved Chaos and I anxiously await the next book in the series. This story will be on my reread list for sure. 5++ stars!
I have said it so many times but I’m saying it again. I just can not have enough of this Xian’s Warriors. Now was Chaos turn to find his mate and what a mate he found she definitely was a sassy, tough girl to be mate to one of the most strong warriors. This series is the best I have come across from. I can not wait to see who will be next to find his mate. And I’m very interesting in the Scelk species especially Varnog I hope we will have the chance to have and read his story.
I really liked this book. I think it’s necessary to read the previous books of the series to fully understand the plot and the different characters.
It’s been interesting to find a female character so bold, daring and straightforward. She is focused on achieving a good position with the Xian Warriors and has been training and preparing for it all her life. She’s tough and brave and will definitely catch the eye of one special warrior named Chaos. He’s smart, fierce and used to fight but regarding love and females he’s a little clueless. Even if what he feels is the most intense bond and attraction he’s ever felt.
I enjoyed Sabra and Chaos story but also how they fit between the other characters, the Xian Warriors, his mates and other different characters and species that work with them.
Adventures, love, friendship, battles, fights, hot sex, psychic powers, evil creatures and unexpected allies… everything so wonderfully well written. A totally worthy story.
Chaos is a sweet love story between... (suspense :D) : Chaos and Sabra, a young empath with psychic abilities (and more).
I'm now becoming familiar with Regine Abel's work and I always like it: her romances are not too obvious, not too porny, and for a romance novel, it offers much in the sci fi / fantasy angle.
I liked: The effort to make diversity "significant". It was not just: let's make one of the characters black and off we go. The black heroine has challenges (small ones, but still) to face related to her skin tone.
I loved: The sci fi / fantasy dynamic, it goes hand in hand with the romance, it's not just a background story. It's developed enough to make me want to know more about this world.
I adored: the whole universe. I knew the book was part of a series but I wasn't aware the previous books covered the other love stories and the beginning of the sci fi plot. It's still possible to read this as a standalone, I did, but there is more out there.
This is yet another captivating addition to the Xian Warrior series. This installment stands out with its increased action and complexity, offering more battles and a deeper exploration of the warriors' lives. It's heartwarming to witness the development of the relationships and families that have formed, giving readers a chance to see how the babies have grown. Regine Abel continues to excel in creating a richly layered world with intriguing characters. If you've enjoyed the previous books in the series, "Chaos" will not disappoint, and it's a testament to the author's ability to keep the story fresh and engaging.
I loved Bane (previous book in series) and honestly didn’t expect this next one to live up to it. It was just as good.
I loved the main characters interaction, especially the uncertainty of the otherwise confident male lead in the romantic arena. I appreciated his inexperience, which was in line with the world/species building. I also appreciated the female lead’s manner and skills and the complement they are to each other.
It was also enjoyable to revisit previous characters and see their lives building and developing and that the story arc appears to be heading to a conclusion (I hate a series that never ends).
Congratulations to the author for another great story that I’m so glad I own (I don’t make the effort to own many)
OCD is not an adjective, character trait, quirk, or figure of speech. In an earlier book the author used OCD this way, in this book it is used repeatedly in this (highly inappropriate) way (as is Bipolar disorder).
Chaos isn't "being OCD", he's a perfectionist and is detail-oriented. Sabra's had empath abilities which caused rapid mood shifts when she was young - she didnt "feel bipolar". As a mental health therapist, who has many clients with OCD and Bipolar Disorder, the use of mental illness to describe character traits trivialities and stigmatizes serious mental health disorders - and is just lazy writing. I am super disappointed because I have really liked Regine's books.
December 2021 I had some issues with Chaos' mate the first time I read the book and still had it when I re-read his book. I can't exactly say what it is, but in a way it feels like she's a little too arrogant and overconfident for my liking.

Fabulous 5🌟's for Chaos & Sabra I absolutely love the Xian warriors series! I enjoyed each action packed fated mates book. Each warrior was deliciously alpha, loyal and loving. Each woman was strong, intelligent and sassy. I hope there is more of this series coming I want to see mates for Wrath, Steele and Varnog just to name a few.💖😊
Chaos is the second face of the Xian warriors and the Vanguard. He's OCD, alpha, an the epitome of what a Xian warrior represents. He's also lonely and wants a mate and child of his own to love. Sabra is the great granddaughter of a scientist that worked with the man who created the Xian warriors who settled down on a human colony on the planet Thirilia. Sabra is an exceptional physic, excellent at combat and weapons and she's also a empath. She amazingly a woman of color who is a soul catcher the first of her kind. When chaos and Sabra meet their souls recognize each other instantly. Chaos is a by the book kind of male and is giving himself to wait the traditional 2 weeks before declaring himself. Sabra is a woman who knows what she wants and is ready and willing to go after it. As their love story unfolds, it unfolds to the backdrop of the evil machinations of the Kryptid General that has ruined so many lives. It's a non stop thrill ride that had left me wanting more now! Regine Abel has become one of my favorite authors I enjoy her world building and we'll developed storyline and fantastic character. 💖💖💖💖
Oh, MAN, I like these Xian Warriors. Sure, Chaos's rigid adherence to the rules when it comes to time frames nearly messes up his chance with Sabra, but the Warriors are pretty darn awesome (even when they find it hard to unbend at times).Let's look at the fact: They can shapeshift, they fight evil, and they are utterly devoted to their soulmate once they connect with them.
GOOD STUFF.
Their female halves aren't too shabby either. The women who join the Vanguard can more than hold their own against their sometimes bossy mates. They're just as determined to do their part as the Xian Warriors and they make a difference when it matters most.
On the relationship front, Chaos is hit with all the feels upon meeting Sabra. Sabra pretty much feels the same, but she doesn't have mating glands telling her Chaos is her special someone. And Chaos is trying to give her time to get to know him before he hits her with the mating whammy, so he doesn't say anything. Which almost backfires on him.
Fortunately, things that are meant to be will happen and the two figure things out. YES!
On the fight against evil front, things are moving forward. The Vanguard is preparing to move against the General and factions within the Kryptid are seeing the truth about what their General has become. THINGS ARE HAPPENING. So many things.
I'm so glad I've played catch-up with this series!
First off, I will forever say Black women deserve to be in alien/monster romances. I enjoy getting to read heroes who finally look like me!
But this book didn’t hook with me as much as I’d wished. Granted, I started with Book5 and not Book 1.
This book is much more science fiction with romantic undertones and I looove that! When romance isn’t the focal point but a subplot so there is actual plot and world building? I live. I love. I stan.
But when the romance is insta-love? Eh…
I didn’t care for the insta-love/insta-lust. I wished our couple learned about each other and went in a slow middle burn with their romance to truly build relationships. Now in context of other stories, I enjoy Insta-lust. But in this context, it felt very forced. “And they were soulmates” felt like a weak attempt to force two individuals into a sex-based relationship.
I thought it was neat how he hung back from declaring their matehood, but heck no the mixed signals were not necessary. Just…take it slow. Let the main plot point ride out with sprinkles of romance then when all is said and done? Give me the feels #TWICE
Overall, this was an okay ready. A tad disappointing from the last Abel book I loved so much, but objectively, I understand why people may love this book.
It's romance. Yes, I flipped through some of the sex in this one. Not because it was poorly done but because I was bored.
Still, Abel is good with scifi romance. I will tell you that I thought, at some point in this book, that she was going to make the women the heroes of the long arc. But no. She eschewed the resolution the series needed and pushed it out a bit farther. Pity because making the women the ones who freed the galaxy would have been original and welcome.
I don't mind the one-couple-per-book formula, but her worlds and long arcs are good enough to deserve as much attention as the relationships in the books and I'd like to see the long arc move along a bit better in this series than it has done so far. The bad guy is becoming a caricature and she made a vague mention in this book about there being other people in the galaxy that needed to be spanked too, so I'm hoping she will wrap it up with the villains in this series soon and move it along.
it continues. still cute and imma still read it but I can’t say it’s holding my full attention
Cute. I’m not sure how I feel about this series tbh. Like it’s fun. I love it. But the characters kinda begin to meld in certain ways and it is in on the tamer side for Regine. This definitely has a lot of sci-fi elements, more so than romance in some aspects (although the HEA are tried and true as expected from the romance genre). Don’t get me wrong, I like it, but I find myself not being particularly drawn and compelled to devour it the way I tend to burn through her other series. What was fun was the women coming face to face with the general and the tensions from that. It seems as if the plot line is coming to a head, which is interesting cuz I know we have a few books left here. I’m interested to see if this will pick up in the next novel. But right now for me it’s very much a low stakes almost cozy read where I can follow but I’m not necessarily dedicating a lot of brain power to it.
Rarely will I ever get this far into a series and find a book that I feel just came out of left field. Chaos is supposed to be this amazing warrior yet he tip toes around his mate and honestly just plays with her emotions for more than half of the book. He knew about her ability to sense emotions, either show them all or show none but don’t mess with her. I would’ve loved for another warrior to woo Sabra but I know that’s not really how this series goes.
As far as Sabra goes, what a limp noodle. For someone who thinks so much of herself she also spends more than half the book pining for a guy and trying to do whatever she can to get his attention. Her actions even after assuming she’s not his mate make her look desperate, I was expecting some more bada**(INSERT MAJOR EYEROLL HERE)
I’ve loved the first half of this series and hope the rest of it won’t be as disappointing.
Chaos was driving me crazy the first half of this book! Like his brothers and sisters around him he was being so stupid! But once he got going lol well you know hahaha. I loved the dynamic chaos and sabra had. I wonder how things will tidy up with wrath... I’m looking forward to linettes book. I was also hoping we’d see some of the mimics get books but I just don’t want this series to end! Regine! What are you doing? Don’t kill this series! You can do so much with it! So many possibilities! This world is endless and there are so many warriors on both sides dragons and Xian’s and mimics to varnog’s people. It’s truly a universe of untapped stories! Also, the last book mentioned victoria was pregnant but they don’t even mention it in this book. It’s like it was a mistake. So what gives? Did doom and red have another baby? I’m dying to know!!
This book was more twist in the overarching villain plot with action than an actual romance between our main couple. Newly discovered abilities were once again introduced, but this time, the science was explained to be linked to melanin in the skin and some long ago ancestry... :| I think there was still too much skin color brought into this universe that I found off-putting.
Another minor nitpick was how often the word deadpan was used, especially in the first couple of chapters. It was amusing the first couple of times, and then the word lost its effect. I also wasn't a fan of the virginal smut scenes (from both parties). I'm taking a break from this series after this book, but I'll probably pick it up again when I'm in the mood again.
Chaos is a pure romantic. And this book is mostly about him finding his romantic side, although we do have action and an old adversary surfacing. The general has become even more devious and i found myself waiting with suspense to find out how all of this coverges around our heroine. Her speciality is something unique and good on Regine for bringing it into the series as it adds an element to the next book. All the feels as usual in this book. With a bit more romance than the others.... with a twist, so it did tend to slow down a little bit. But we know that Chaos is very stoic and OCD so I didn't really expect a heap of action like in Banes book. It's nice that he found his forever as he's been with me since book 1. Thanks again, Christian. It is always a pleasure to hear you. Bring these characters to life.
This is the fifth book in the series. I haven’t read all of the books but was able to still follow this one. I would suggest reading at least one of the previous one if not all before hand. The series is very sci-fi with aliens of all types and danger around every turn. This one focuses on Chaos as he wishes to find his mate and have what some of his brothers have found, love. Sabra is a human with plenty of psychic abilities. In previous books it was found the human women had different psychic abilities according to their skin color. But Sabra is definitely breaking that mold. She is a beautiful woman with amazing abilities. She will soon learn that she will need them all to save herself and help stop the plan of an evil male. Expect plenty of space fighting and romance.
3.5 stars The action and storyline were very good. The characters were interesting. The heroine was well balanced - confident but not arrogant, not a pushover but not a hardass, courageous but not TSTL. She was great. I liked her interactions with Tabitha and the mimic. I liked that Chaos had waited for his mate rather than having multiple liaisons or a long-term relationship with his soulcatcher like some of the other warriors. However I found his character to be quite bland overall. The way the heroine described him was cute, but he wasn’t a very interesting or commanding hero imo. The romance wasn’t as intense compared to others in previous books in the series. I’m looking forward to reading Varnog as a main character. Lessgo!
👽 “Do you have any idea how beautiful, how utterly perfect you are? Perfect and mine.” ~~~ Sabra is bold, brave, confident and straightforward. And she has some unique skills. I liked her so much!
Chaos is smart, honorable and caring with a dash of OCD and a tendency to strictly follow the rules. His loneliness was heartbreaking. It was such a surprise to see him so uncertain when dealing with his attraction to Sabra. And that made me love him even more!
I loved their relationship, loved their interactions and the sweet romance. And that game of domook and the epilogue were so hot!
It’s a wonderful story filled with adventure, danger, action, unexpected allies, drama, steam and strong and brave characters.
Sabra & Chaos. I didn't connect with this couple as much, though they probably suffered a bit in comparison to how much I liked the previous book. Chaos was adorably shy and awkward about courting Sabra, who on the other hand came across as a bit too brash and confident at the start of the book. They ended up making a good pairing though. Sabra has some unique psychic abilities due to her background, but it's her "Ghosting" ability that is most used in this book. One of the Scelks, Varnog, makes the most use of that ability and they become good friends over the course of the book - this also lets us get a peek past Varnog's tough-guy/sarcastic exterior and see some of his softer feelings, helping to set him up as the hero of the next book.
