A funny and heartfelt travel memoir, Dear Bob and Sue: Season 3 brings to life the joy of the road trip and the humor that comes with experiencing new places and activities. This book is a follow-up to the bestselling book Dear Bob and Sue, a charming and sometimes irreverent chronicle of a middle-aged couple as they visit each of the country’s fifty-nine national parks, testing their mettle and stretching their endurance. In their third book of the series, follow Matt and Karen as they work their way around the western United States discovering some of our most beautiful public lands, hidden gems, and revisiting a few of their favorite national parks. Share their trials and tribulations as they hit the road in an RV for the first time in Arizona and hike the same trail the Klondike Gold Rush prospectors took in Alaska. Through a series of emails written to their friends, Bob and Sue, the couple brings the reader along on their adventures, sharing their experiences as they explore some of the lesser known parks and national monuments. By the end of the book, you’ll be itching to drag out your hiking boots, dust off your tent, and hit the road.If you’re looking for fun and easy reads that take you to new and exciting places, the Dear Bob and Sue series is for you.
Another great adventure with Matt and Karen, love learning of new places to put on my bucket list and revisiting some of my favorite places! Hope there's more adventures in the future!
I love Matt & Karen Smith's Dear Bob and Sue books. I find them light, and interesting, and funny. I make mental notes (and sometimes real ones) about places to explore when the opportunity presents itself. It's like taking a mini-vacation, when I read their books. I always like to bring them with me when I travel, and this one was slated for the suitcase for Hawaii, but since we didn't make it to Hawaii, I enjoyed it from my couch!
In this addition, Matt & Karen explore public lands in the western United States, including a trip to AK to hike the Chilkoot trail. No spoilers here, but I should mention that my family and I were in Skagway the same time the Smith's were. I wish we would have bumped into them!
Since we cannot travel right now, I am taking trips with descriptions from people who have traveled and written about it and this book did not disappoint . Funny incidents, descriptions of hiking up to remote places which made me glad that I was at home reading by the fireplace in a comfy, warm chair and I am making a whole new bucket list of places that I want to go visit. Great descriptions and authentic views of travel and the problems that one faces with fellow travelers, disappointing weather and not enough time all dealt with humor.
I love this series! This volume did not disappoint. I’ve learned so much from Matt and Karen and I can’t wait for my summer trip to the national parks in Utah. These books give just the right level of detail to get you interested in a park, but don’t get so bogged down that you’re bored. I love their sense of humor too! But I’m dying to know if they will try the chilkoot trail again??? Next I plan on listening to all their podcast episodes.
If you love visiting the national parks, or just hiking and nature in general, the Dear Bob and Sue series is a great read. I loved Season 3; as always, the authors visited places I'd never heard of but have now put on my list of places to go. This book brought back memories of some of my own road trips to the parks, and made me eager for my next trip!
As with their first and second book in this series, this travelogue was fun to read. I enjoyed reading about places we have visited and places we hope to visit within the next year or so. Through their stories hopefully many people will realize the opportunities that are available to see and do within the United States.
I read the first two books and really enjoyed their adventures from the perspective of every day people as they venture into and out of their comfort zones. Still witty and humorous in their observations, I enjoyed seeing them grow in their comfort with their experiences and adventures in the great outdoors. I definitely added some new places to my bucket list after reading this series
I have now read all four of Matt and Karen’s books. I feel like we are old friends, and I hope the next time they go out to explore a national park or hike a glacier, they’ll invite me along!! Can’t wait for Season Four!
I read the first and now the third book in the series. I still enjoyed their journeys through the west but I did like strictly national parks better. Maybe they should do the Canadian National Parks next.
Another fun collection of stories from Matt and Karen Smith's travels. I knew I'd read this one already! Once I started listening, I recognized the stories but apparently missed writing a review here. I don't mind at all listening to this one again. =)
Enjoyed as always. I have started listening to the podcast because I have enjoyed the series so much. A good way to hear information and details about national treasures wrapped into a humorous travel log style.
I’ll read everything they write. I cried a little when I finished reading this, knowing there is not another book after this one. At least not yet. I dream of visiting the places they’ve visited, living life this way. What an adventure.
As with their other books, it's fun to listen (I like the audio books) to them explore places -- some I have been to and others on my bucket list. I can't wait to retire!
I love these books! I have been places i had never heard of before reading them! Their adventures remind me of so many happy and funny memories we have had!
Highly entertaining account of travel to Americas public lands. Matt and Karen have good chemistry when relating to each other and describing their adventures.
I laughed so hard that my husband, who is not a big reader asked to read this book! Loved all the stories and details of the trips! This helps when I plan trips!
Great travel book...as good or better than the first 2. If you like public lands...read this fun book. These two are folks you would love to travel with.
Love these books!! I use them when I travel to national parks to be informed on special little trails and places to see and stay. The "voice" in their writing makes them so fun to read.
