As with anything, doing something about your problem is more effective than thinking about it. Although the thinking comes first, if we get hung up there, nothing gets solved. Action must ensue.
Nothing new here - it's just an overview of various mindset frameworks - but it's well written and helped me identify some things I need to work on. Recommended.
Release tension set intension.... Another worthy little book by Pete Hollins. Like all his books nicely researched, well organized and presented in a simple palatable oration. Thumbs up for the lessons carried in the book, and I'd highly recommend this book to anybody interested in self-improvement with no hesitation at all.
There are a lot of recycled ideas in here, and frankly, I didn't hear anything I hadn't heard before. If you have not read many productivity or practical self-help books, this might be very useful to you. But if you have read the catagory broadly for awhile, this will be old material. There's also some real nonsense in here. For example, the author describes a story about a director who thought away his cancer with focus. Excuse me, what? Then, as an aside, the author mentions that this is no substitute for medicine. That single sentence doesn't excuse the fifteen minute nonsense story that suggests you can think away cancer. There are a few other examples of this magical thinking, too, but by and large, it's a useful book. I gave it two stars because it was short and somewhat useful, reminding me of a few suggestions that, although I had heard them before, are especially useful to me now due to my current life circumstances. Sometimes hearing the right things at the right time is more important than hearing NEW things.
Hollins does bring together a range of mental tools, approaches and philosophies that will undoubtedly improve performance and even the quality of life - if applied. The difficult part is getting these practices off the page and into your life.
Some of the big ideas he recommends are big topics in their own right with whole volumes written about them (being present / gratitude / stoicism). Hollins just gives the briefest summary which is OK if that's all you're after.
As it happens I was looking for a summation of good practices in how to think more productively and more clearly - and in that respect he does a great job. Overall very good and recommended
Nothing really new here if you’re a self improvement junky. Lots of known and well researched concepts presented concisely without a lot of long drawn out stories illustrating (obscuring/distracting) from his excellent and well ordered points. I particularly liked the short bite sized chapters which provide opportunity for content absorption while making the book a fast read.
This book teaches an overall approach to improve one's life. From science to virtues to stoicism to gratitude , this book covers it all ! Best part is the quick summary at the end of each chapter. It's a quick read. I recommend this book to anyone who wishes to improve their life for good.
Brilliant read! A must-read for anyone who wants to know how to live their best lives - and I'm pretty sure that's everyone. Thinking intentionally, consciously and mastering your mind, is the first and foremost step to designing and living the life you want. This book teaches you how to do just that
A great start to change your mind set. Start taking control of your life and career by starting with how you think. Great training for a positive outlook and how to plan for what you want out of life
Eye-opening book on transforming your life by changing your mindset! This book revealed many concepts of self-improvement that I had not found in other self-help books. I may be going back to reread this again!
Good walkthrough of the ways in which our thinking patterns influence our lives. Appreciated the detailed presentation of different mindsets and examples of how they play a role in how we engage with challenges or the unexpected. Definitely worth a read!
An easy-read and a very effective self-improvement book
The material of the book chapters, takeaways at the end of each chapter and the summary at the end of the book are very well thought through. The logical approach with clear examples that Peter Hollins used in writing this book are refreshing and highly commendable for anyone searching and striving to handle challenges if and when they arise in the course of one’s life. To effectively benefit from this book I recommend re-reading it as many times as circumstances permit.
I BOUGHT A COPY FOR MY DAUGHTER AS SOON AS I FINISHED READING
Excellent synthesis (2.5 he's of reading) of the mindsets needed for feeling fulfilled in life, achieving what you want and feeling satisfied and grateful and humble with all you get. Don't get stuck in the present, get this book and move forward.
