Amazon Top 100, USA Today bestselling, and #1 bestselling author in multiple Amazon categories, Loki Renard writes sizzling hot, occasionally dark and twisted stories of dominance, submission and discipline.
Freak isn't as dark as it was attributed, it certainly has twisted methods revolving the HEAD who needs a cruel death. A caring docter and his feral patient process the aim to live in the cruel mind play of scientists who uses subjects as weapons to kill and destroy. What I like was the story had a fast flow, intense drama and tantalizing innocent (on the heroines part) moments.
Electra also known as FREAK was a stolen egg "rescued" to scientifically designed (physically and mentally) to be lethal and destroy the enemies. In a world of hurt with no human contact she has become untamed. She is a sassy fire-cracker with a dash of naiveness that makes me adore her. The story starts with her forced taken (later we know it was a plan) to the doctor, Dr Ares. Dr Tom Ares is the facility doctor who was a complete change of an aura to Electra. She was completely facinated and intrigued by Dr. Ares who completely calms her and doesn't play mind games with her. Dr Ares knows Electra was wronged and misused in many ways. He was instantly attracted to her and genuinely wants to help her. He has a steely, strict and calming manner. When he was assinged as her handler he had no idea what he was in for. Her explosive anger and crass words are dealt with firm hand - which she seems to like. He helps her civilize both in sense and to the world. Both of them fall in love despite the vicious current that may rip them apart.
The end wasn't what I expected and I wasn't satisfied with it. There was still some unresolved part which is poured angst upon angst. This book is second to the Ares Brother series - Scar, featuring Ken's story. Ken is the older brother of Dr. Ares. We meet him in this book. I haven't read Ken's story yet but it's better to read the first book for good understanding of the background development.
I love Loki's books and Freak was fantastic. Tom is a medical doctor on a base and he meets Electra, a cute little petite woman. The attraction is instant when he thinks she is behaving like a brat. This story has twists and turns that keep the reader captivated!
That was/is a freaky fantastic read - only dark in ways that are scratching at our consciousness and demand an evaluation that we, following the story, do not want to give easily.
The arrangement of the extremes in the characters is well chosen and sensitively composed.
Captivating, interesting, unbelievable and fascinating with a good shot of romance, a lot of manipulation and the trust in love - a book that really entertains on so many levels - Thank you Mrs. Renard, it was a pleasure, again.
OK so if you read “Scar” you remember who Tom Ares is. Recap: His brother Ken is a military elite soldier. Mary needs to be tamed and is the best weapon they have. Now enter Electra. She is one bad woman in a small package. She is underestimated all the time and puts the men to the ground in a world of hurt. She meets the new doctor, Tom Ares and that is where we are. Tom isn’t into what “Head” has created. This elite group of people is no match for Electra. But there is something special about her. She is the ultimate weapon. Tom has no idea what he is in for. All he knows is that there is an attraction to her that he is not going to fight. He certainly isn’t about to let this one get away. I have to say there is something odd. I never trusted “Head.” That b*&^% is a piece of work. I have to say that the first time these to come together, WOW. I mean it’s not the rough tumble but a more sensual one. You have got to love Tom. The way he talks and moves in the book is drool worthy. And what a twist we get towards the end. I DID NOT see that coming.
I absolutely love this author’s writing, from her well developed characters to her intriguing, suspenseful and sexy storylines. My heart broke for Electra at times. She is forced to grow up in a sterile environment with minimal human contact. She is conditioned into an emotionless killing machine. Dr. Tom is tasked with the job of humanizing Electra but while he is completing the job he falls in love with her. Will he be successful in this task? Will Electra be resistant to learning new things and attack Tom? Overall this is a thrilling story it kept me on the edge of my seat with its twists and turns. I look forward to reading more about this author!
This is a sequel to “Scar” - you do not have to read this first, but I feel it helps to understand the background. This book features Tom (brother to Ken from the previous book) and Electra who is a the freak, resulting from a genetic experiment and raised with the sole purpose of killing people. Unsurprisingly she has very little humanity and Dr Tom is tasked with rehabilitating her. This is not “dark” as such and to say it is a medical romance is a misnomer - aspects of domestic discipline is a more accurate description. The characters are strong and have chemistry but I did find it a little slow and wasn’t totally satisfied with the ending.

This is not "dark" at all. I almost DNF'd this at about 25% because it was pretty boring. I stuck with it and it got better because the sex scenes were pretty good and I did want to see how they "got away" from the baddie.
While it's not "dark" sometimes it's sad, infuriating, violent, manipulative, sexy, and hot but mostly unbelievable. I accept it for what it was; an implausible redemption romance with a domestic discipline element. There were a lot of plot holes but it wasn't really what I was looking for when I expected a real "dark" theme.
Not my favorite Loki book. Set in the same facility where we knew Ken and Mary - a mercenary organization filled with unlikable characters. Tom falls for Electra who has been 'made' in a laboratory and dehumanized. For me it worked up until about 3/4 of the way through then lost its way. I won't ruin this with a spoiler but it fizzled out rather than ending with a bang.
Electra is the product of science and a stolen egg. She was raised to use her attributes to maim, kill and destroy the enemy. At just twenty years old that’s all she knows, pain and death. Dr. Tom Ares is the doctor in the facility and tends to Electra after an injury. Every other person Electra has come into contact with she instantly wants to hurt and get away from...until she meets Dr. Ares. He is the first person who seems to calm her and sparks curiosity in her. The Head makes Dr. Ares Electra’s new handler. He finds that the best way to tame Electra’s feral ways is by using a firm hand..which she seems to like. Unfortunately The Head is up to no good and she threatens everything between Tom and Electra. Secrets are discovered that may give Tom and Electra the upper hand. Quite the intriguing, twisted and super hot story!
Electra is a scientifically designed and raised woman imbued with incredible strength and intelligence in order to conduct and win murderous missions. She is angry, and combative. Her body is excessively well-trained and exceedingly strong.
Tom Ares is the first doctor who tries to help and heal her without causing her undo pain and harm. Electra is intrigued by his stern, calm manner. She is a body full of physical dominance and overpowering rage. Yet, she knows nothing about “normal” humanity such as cooking, cleaning and reading.
Watching the interaction between a caring doctor and an almost primitive young woman is fascinating. Will Tom be able to help her learn new ideas and behaviors without her erupting into explosive anger? Will she be able to accept instruction given in a constructive manner? Why should she? Will she attack the doctor? Will she be able to handle his domestic discipline? Will she want to?
To me this is an exciting, fascinating story that kept me on my toes and constantly guessing which way the characters will react to myriad situations. Ms. Renard’s words were captivating and enthralling right to the end.
Chemistry is instant!! She wasn't given a name so she choose one for herself. Electra. Made by military scientists and she had been trained to be a killing machine. She has never been outside of the facility and she enjoyed nothing more than hurting her guards. Doctor Tom Ares couldnt believe this beautiful woman was capable of hurting big strong guards but he had learnt to no judge. He is not happy with the way that the guard is treating her as she comes across so sweet and cute. Electra cant believe how this doctor can calm her when she would usually let rip. And he has his way to treat her when she is being a brat! When the head of the facility gets Doctor Tom to work with Electra to get her more human things start to develop between them. And the twist and turns just keep coming This was a great read I really like both charaters and the storyline was addictive. It was a brilliant storyline and I was totally hooked!!!

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "FREAK" OMG!!!! What a mindblowing read so addicting, interesting, unique, crazy dark intense drama, twists that have you turning page after page. Electra aka "Freak" was created by medical scientists to be lethal, an elite weapon to kill, maim, destroy until an injury which Dr Tom Aries in the facility tends to he calms her which peaks her curiosity no one else has fen able to do that. The Head makes Dr Tom Aries her new handler ve a use he found the best way to tame Electra's feral ways is by using a firm hand which she seems to like but the Head us up to no good and does everthing to threaten what's between them but they find out secrets that put them at an advantage. This is definitely a must have book you don't want to miss getting anything by Loki Renard is a pleasure to read this is so well worth your time and the characters are awesome. LOVED THIS VERY UNIQUE ENTERTAINING STORY!!!!!
WOW! This is one thrilling and completely mind-blowing story from beginning to end. It has edge of your seat intensity and a dark and twisted storyline. This is one rollercoaster ride of epic proportions!
Electra is extremely witty and a complete badass. She’s intense and has moments of utter rage and hatred towards others but you can’t help but be totally captivated by her. She is the ultimate killing machine that no one seems to be able to control. In comes the sexy, alpha Dr. Tom, who thinks he knows just what she needs to calm her rage and give her the discipline she needs. These two together had me laughing out loud and falling head over heels for them. They are the perfect combination of wits, sexiness and strength!
This story is fantastic and very unique. It’s highly entertaining and thrilling to read! I absolutely loved everything about it.
Tom has begun working with his brother at the Facility run by the Head. He knows it’s not the best place to work but he feels like he can make a difference in the lives of the agents. All that changes when he lays eyes on Electra. She is beautiful and empowering but she is also broken and lost. He wants to protect her and show her all that she has been missing in the world. Electra was born in a tube and raised to be a weapon no matter what the cost. What she doesn’t know is how to live, love, read, feel more than pain/death. She didn’t even know these existed until she meets Dr. Ares. He makes her feel things that she can’t forget or wants to forget. She listens to him and wants to make him happy. She has no idea what all this means and she is taking back by how much he changes her. Her upbringing is horrific and quite sad but seeing her find some sense of life and love with Tom is so worth it. Happy Reading!!
I enjoyed the story but parts of it are sad when it relates to how unknowing Electra is about the real world. She has grown up in a sterile environment with no normal human contact. All contact had been to turn her into a killing machine with no feelings. But things are not what they appear go be on the surface. Dr. Tom Ares is given the job of humanizing Electra and in the process falls in love with her. The head of the facility, that keeps Electra under lockdown, has her own secrets that are revealed at the end. In the early part of the story there is a lot of violence but that tapers off as the story goes along. The story is well written and full of suspense. I enjoyed it and would recommend it as a great read but it is somewhat on the dark side.
There are a few really nasty, mean, cruel and controlling people involved in the Freak that was formulated by a stolen egg and all the vicious elements that could be found to make her an elite killing machine. The Head, needed to be eliminated but I don't think even my twisted mind could think up a fitting end to her. You will definitely be feeling all the things I did as you read how Freak aka Electra was treated. Tyko, her handler along with Head deserved all that could be done to the worst characters in any book I have read before! Dr. Thom Ares is the best hero for this story, he just knew what was needed and did his best to get it done. If you read the previous book Scar, you will recognize a few characters that help add to this complex, but so enjoyable story of Freak.
This book is a stand alone, but if you want to know a little more about Ken, Mary and Tom, please read Scar. It is in KU. Electra was created and raised in a lab. She has no idea how to be a person. At the facility where she is held, Tom is a doctor. He is captivated by her and treats her kindly, which no one has done before. Tom is made her handler and he starts the process of teaching her control. While they are together, they start a physical relationship that is love for Tom, but he isn't sure that Electra even understands love. These books by Loki Renard are so intense. It is always so captivating. I always finish reading in one sitting. I will warn you that this is a dark and violent book. Tom and Electra ❤️ wow this was one dark dirty delicious storing it was gritty tantalizing and panty melting like a wet dream come to life torchering every nerve fiber of my being making me warm moist and intoxicated from one eye popping ravenous page to the next it has Intense drama, thrumming tension, electrifying suspense and fierce danger that spirals into intriguing passion and action, this sizzles from the first pages and suck me in so deeply until i felt the heat and electricity through me veins This had a very intriguing storyline that kept me thirsty excited and on edge from the very beginning to the jaw dropping end .
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this book exceeded whatever it was. Tom and Electra's story was steamy and certainly dark, but in a totally unexpected way. My heart broke for Electra, what she missed in life, all she's endured, everything. She's so damaged, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel, Dr.Tom. He just wants to help her, heal her, love her. I loved this book, all the characters had great depth, are compelling, and the storyline truly unique. This is a great read and fortunately it's free with your KU subscription. Great Read. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
I really liked Electra and Tom's story. I actually was a bit surprised by this book as it was not quite what I had expected but it was the best kind of surprise. This story easily grabbed and held all of my attention. It was intense, suspenseful, dramatic and steamy. I found it impossible not to feel for Electra and I was so happy that Tom entered her life. I liked both characters and I thought their chemistry sizzled. There is some darkness here but frankly I felt it was on the milder side of the spectrum, which I found vastly appealing because sometimes too much is just that too much. This is my forthright review that I am freely choosing to post.
I basically lost interest in Loki's stories when they turned very dark and degrading with no warmth or comfort (Shamefully Broken) but I still get her newsletter and this one sounded interesting.
Once I started, I couldn't put it down. The plot is absorbing and the characters just jump out of the pages. It is told from both Ares and Electra's point of view. Plenty of action and some horizontal action for those interested (easily skipped over if your not into that sort of thing).
I really recommend this story and I am off to grab Scar which is the story of Ken and Mary (that I should have read first).
Being a Loki Renard fan, I know to expect the unexpected when it comes to her books but this one confused me a bit at the beginning. Then it picked up and then confusion turned into curiosity, then led to intrigue. Secrets, lies, intimidation, and intrigue all came into play while I tried to put the pieces together as Doctor Ares and Electra are brought together. A military installment run by a woman who is only known as "The Head". And the ending to this one? I was pole-axed! Who saw that coming? I certainly didn't! Now I find out there is another book to this tale so you know I have to start reading it! Congratulations Loki, I'm hooked.
Freak is a dark medical romance by Loki Renard. The two main characters from her previous book, Scar, make a few appearances but this book can be read as a standalone. Electrahas spent her entire life in captivity, only learning to kill oe seduce for her spying. She was created in a lab, and since everyone treats her like an animal, she retains the manners of one. Doctor Tom Ares only works where he does to keep an eye on his brother, and is shocked when he realizes he is assigned to training Electra. This book was very good, any adult romance fan will love it.

This book wasn't really what I was expecting, but I was left pleaseantly Surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, because it didn't have the typical happy ending or even the typical alpha male, but of course there was a murderous, sassy, foul mouthed heroine who I thought was so adorable.
What I really liked was Doctor Ares, he was was alpha but not in the dominating I'm going to make you listen to me and if you don't I'll punish you way. He was very sweet, caring, attentive and the right amount of dominance that made his character so delicious.
I really enjoyed the unexpectedness of this book and I would recommend.
This is NOT your normal dark romance...it’s suspenseful, edgy and dramatic. Freak in part continues on from Scar and involves Ken’s brother Tom who becomes the medic at the facility that Kenn and Mary work at... Electra is a little fire cracker she can kill a man in any different way you can think of ...But Tom has ways that managed to have a calming effect on her. This has all of the twists, suspense and drama that Loki brings to all her books and for that, makes her one of my top clicked authors..5 stars.
Loki Renard has done it again this was a twisting, turning, totally engrossing book that keep you reading from the moment you start till you finished, knowing you just can not put this down such a delishly dark read. When Tom first meets Elektra, he can't figure out why they call her "freak" and treat her the way they do, maybe that's why Elektra can't treat Tom the way she does everyone of her other handlers by pounding them into the ground. So when Tom begins to train Elektra trying to "humanize" her for the Head, it begins a journey to what being a woman really is.
My god this book was exciting I could not put it down it's that good. I loved Electra her fight, she's a weapon to kill and destroy but theres so much more to her it almost breaks your heart and then Tom steps in and he becomes her savior and is super yummy with the patients of a Saint. I really loved the interaction with these to and Electra made it so much fun testing Tom at every corner with some laughable moments and the emotion she craved just to be a little bit human was beautiful.
Electra needs a strong hand, but also someone who cares and has empathy, and that is Tom. But there are forces at play, manipulative, vindictive, violent, twisted and malevolent. Can the heat, lust and chemistry between Electra and Tom form a bond to carry them thru it all? What will you do for love and what will you give? Dark and twisted, with fantastic characters and a gripping well written storyline and a couple of great twists and turns!
Loki Renard has done it again. Her fertile mind has written another tale about the good guys winning. Sometimes you just want to cry for the characters in this book. Electra and Tom need each other! She is broken and he is gallant. And I hope Head gets squashed. This book is not for the faint of heart. It’s cruel, good, sad and happy with a side of love.
Put all of the aggression of Arnold and Sylvester into a pint size package and you have the perfect weapon especially when you add in the beauty of Angelina and the persuasiveness of ScarJo. But with all of this explosive energy, humanity is the one quality missing. Will the experiment that is Electra succumb to the compassionate but stern doctor in charge? Will the teaching of "real life" be true to the tenants of discipline and reward?
