Can Miss Louisa Smallwood trust the man who has stolen her heart? Or, should she heed the warnings of the companion her father has chosen? Given one more Season by her father, Miss Louisa Smallwood is delighted when he finds a companion for her, a Miss Martin. However, things do not go according to plan when Miss Martin attempts to prevent Louisa from spending any time with Lord Williamson. Viscount Daniel Williamson has never felt any such affection for anyone before, but now that he has met Miss Smallwood, he can think of nothing other than being in her company. However, Daniel is caught up in multiple scandals that are no fault of his own. He begins to wonder if someone is deliberately trying to keep him apart from Miss Smallwood but struggles to find out who it might be and why they are doing it. Will Miss Smallwood continue to trust him? Or will the final, dark rumor about him finally push her from him forever?
Joyce Alec grew up in Colorado and graduated from college with a degree in business. After developing a passion for books, she spent countless hours reading a variety of genres, but fell in love with sweet, historical romances. Joyce’s passion for reading eventually cultivated into a love for writing, so creating Regency-era tales of love is a dream come true for her.
After planting her roots in Florida, Joyce found another passion: the ocean! In her free time, you can find Joyce at the beach with a big floppy hat, flip-flops, and a vanilla iced coffee in hand. She lives in the Sunshine State with her prince charming and wildly vivacious son.
Miss Louisa Smallwood was discussing her situation with her father, Baron Churston. He was ready to take her home in the middle of the Season since no one had asked to court her. But she told him he had not introduced her to anyone and needed to do his part to help her. This was to be her last Season, then he would offer her to Sir Walton, an older friend of his who lived near them and whose 3 previous wives had mysteriously died. She finally talked him into finding her a companion to help her find a suitable husband.
Miss Martin attended the first function with Louisa and the previously good-natured lady sternly told her she was not to allow any gentleman to sign her dance card until she had approved. She then harshly said that Louisa was to come right back to her after every dance and to not converse with the man at all afterward! The sharpness in her voice and her hard expression confused Louisa. But she gently argued back that Miss Martin would have approved the man previously and she would not leave the ballroom, so there should be no issue with her continuing a conversation if the gentleman wished it. When an acquaintance introduced her to 3 gentlemen and they signed her dance card, Miss Martin practically dragged her away and accused her of being so desperate for a husband that she would behave improperly. Louisa stood up for herself but was so angry that she spun around and walked right into a man she hadn’t seen coming toward her.
Viscount Daniel Williamson recognized Miss Martin and knew she would not approve of him. So he asked Louisa for her dance card and signed two spaces, figuring the strong young woman would dance with him regardless of Miss Martin’s interference. Miss Martin tells Louisa the man is a cad, but won’t give details. Louisa decides to make her own mind up as to Daniel’s worthiness and she begins to have feelings of attraction for the gentleman. Daniel likewise begins to wonder about settling down and marriage with the lovely Miss Louisa. But someone is trying to keep them apart by discrediting his reputation and lying about his character. Who would do such a thing and why? Will Louisa believe the lies? Or will she continue to trust her own feelings and allow a relationship to proceed with Daniel?
Not only do we get an excellent story line of a young woman who must find a husband or be married off to an old man, but then a mystery enters as well. Why is Miss Martin behaving as she is with Louisa? Who is trying to ruin Daniel’s reputation and why? The characters are intriguing and the reader will be drawn in immediately to see how this all resolves. Grab your copy of this excellent book and enjoy where it takes you!

This is another fascinating Regency Romance💕 by Author Joyce Alec📚! I have read quite a few of her books now and they are always great reads and not overly long. I love being able to read a really good book like hers in a couple of hours.

I I read this novel in about one hour's time I love it . Joyce Alec you have a subscriber for life, you had me in love with this couple my score for you is 5 stars.
To think one of the worst things to happen to a person is to lose one’s reputation. Once again lack of communication causes difficulties. Though I do live a book where love finds a way.
When Miss Louisa Smallwood begs her father to let her finish the season to give her time to find a husband, he reluctantly agrees. The decision is made to get her a companion to help her find a suitable match. Miss Martin seems very nice and not much older than Louisa. At their first ball , Miss Martin turns quite stern and wants to control who Louisa will dance with. When Louisa Is asked to dance by Viscount Daniel Williamson, Miss Martin tries to stop Louisa from interacting with him. She says he's a cad but won't explain her reasons. Louisa decides to determine for herself what type of gentleman Daniel is and begins to have feelings for him.
Viscount Daniel Williamson wasn't ready to settle down and get married until he began spending time with Miss Louisa. As the two of them spend time getting to know one another- there are people trying to keep them apart. Miss Martin keeps trying to discourage Louisa telling her untruths about the Viscount and someone is trying to discredit his reputation with many lies. Will Miss Louisa believe Miss Martin and the other troubling things she keeps hearing about Daniel? Will Daniel confront Miss Martin and find out who is destroying his reputation? Can these two go forward into a deeper relationship? This was an enjoyable book with just a touch of mystery

📒 This is a fascinating romance filled with suspense, intrigue and twists. Lord Williamson only approached Louisa to irritate Louisa's companion, Miss Martin, because Miss Martin hated Lord Williamson, but he didn't know why. Louisa only agreed to dance with Lord Williamson because Miss Martin said not to. While they danced they talked, and both found themselves opening up much more than they had with anyone else, so Lord Williamson asked her to dance with the next time they were at the same function, and she happily agreed. The more time that they spent together, the more they liked the other, and the more determined Miss Martin became trying to turn Louisa against him. Then Lord Williamson started being accused of all sorts of bad behavior, and after a while he couldn't convince Louisa that he was innocent, so she took some time to try to figure things out. While she was thinking, Lord Williamson was trying to track down the person responsible for all of the rumors with the help of his best friend, Lord Townsend. And while all this is going on, Louisa was also being pursued by Lord Montague, who Miss Martin was also warning Louisa away from. The ending is surprising. This is a must read book.
Miss Martin was to be Louisa's companion and help her find a husband so she wouldn't have to marry her fathers long time friend. Miss Martin has many rules which Louisa has refused to fully follow at first just to exercise her free will. Then she met Viscount Daniel Williamson and he seemed everything she wanted in a husband, but Miss Martin told her he was not acceptable. Deciding to trust herself she continued to see him soon she noticed strange things occurred when they were together, things that made her question her truthfulness. Then after hearing something terrible about Daniel she decided she must confront him, which is when she finds him with Miss Martin. Louisa has had enough of this and confronts Miss Martin about her true relation ship to Daniel, what she finds out shocks her.

Louisa's first season had had only one benefit to that point. She's made the acquaintance of another young lady who had encouraged her to be herself and drop her reserve. She's been practicing being more forthright, asking for what she wanted. She now confronted her father with her wishes, as he informed her they were leaving in the middle of the season due to her lack of suitors. The fact her father would gladly give her hand to their neighbor and his friend upon their return to the country, was understood. Louisa was determined to avoid that future at all costs. How could Louisa know the trouble that would come when her father agreed to her request for a companion?!
Baron Churston insists that as his daughter Louisa has not secured a marriage proposal they return to the country and she must marry one of his friends. She argues with him and they agree that he will hire a chaperone and give her until the end of the season. Lord Williamson asks her to dance but her chaperone tries to stop her saying his is not suitable. Louisa however refuses to comply when she is not given an answer as to why he is unsuitable. As their friendship progresses rumours and accusations about him keep being made. What is the truth? Will they be able to find happiness?

Louisa has been encouraged by a friend to stand up for herself. Her father has hired a companion to help her meet a proper gentleman because he really doesn’t want to be bothered. She meets Daniel and he sparks her interest. He doesn’t seem to feel that initial attraction. Her companion, Miss Martin, has an intense dislike of him and no one knows why and she’s not telling. There is some intrigue and some romance that makes this book engaging. The characters are well defined and no one seems to be too over the top. This is a nice clean romance with a HEA and is on par with Ms Alec’s other books.

Not just a romance, but a mystery thrown in for good measure
Joyce Alec throws a curve ball with this fantastic tale of not one but (spoiler alert) two romances, with a bit of a mystery thrown in. Why does society keep expecting the worst of our hero? Can our Heroine ever trust his word? Why is the companion so secretive? Who is the mystery woman the best friend has been in love with for all these years? Ms Alec weaves a Recency tale so fun I was kept in my toes the entire time!
Daniel started out dancing and walking with Louisa to annoy her new companion. The reader isn’t told why until near the end of the book. But he develops feelings for her the more time he spends with her. Awful rumors abound about him, the company and women he spends time with. Daniel denies it, but he is having trouble disproving them. Is he a villain or is someone else out to get him? There was plenty of romance and a mystery to solve in this regency romance.
Who is the snake in the grass? The prologue is so moving it will bring a tear to your eye and a lump in your throat. Ms. Alec does not stop there the story continues in the same way. Daniel and Louisa's romance is a struggle all uphill. This is a beautifully written story with drama that will take your breath away with a conclusion that was brilliant. I loved the book and highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

I love Joyce Alec's stories. They take a lot of hard work and dedication to learning the rights and wrongs of an era. This is a clean well written story and I highly recommend reading this book. Miss Louise Smallwood was about to be forced into marring an old friend of her father's because he wanted get married. She wanted her season. This takes place in England in the nineteenth century. I was given a ARC of this book and I loved it.
This one had me guessing till the end! I honestly thought it was the guy her father wanted to marry her off too, the true culprit was a complete surprise! Lord Townsend's part in all of this was also a surprise. Great story development, great mystery. Good Job!

A Regency styled romance with some drama that is drawing room orientated as opposed to bedroom. In the face of opposition she stands firmly, not believing all the rumors. Somewhere there is a snake in the grass and together they will find the truth.

I really enjoyed this regency romance with a bit of mystery. The characters are well developed and the storyline is excellent, with suspense, drama, mystery, and sweet romance. Will Daniel and Louisa have a chance at happiness together or will the lies about him destroy their chances? This is an engaging read that you won't want to put down.
I enjoyed this new "Brides of London" story. It's a nicely written regency romance that is a fairly quick read. Love the characters. Very intriguing and interesting plot as well. I like Louisa and Daniel! I don't really care for Ms. Martin though but given the plot and her roll as companion to Louisa I guess I get it. This is a nicely developed story with a good plot.
I totally loved this story. If you love mystery, hidden identity, regency romance, and more! Fabulous characters and intriguing story line. Fast paced reading that kept you turning pages. Some content that is inferred is not appropriate for all readers. I highly recommend this book. Happy reading!
