Volume 2 in a graphic novel anthology series featuring Canadian talent such as Joe Infurnari, Tri Vuong, Irma Kniivila, Ramón Pérez, Mike Valiquette, Kalyan Andrasofszky, Rachel Matile, Taran Chatham, Nimit Malavia, Eric Vedder, Sheldon Carter, Anthony Falcone, Gibson Quarter, Joe Vriens, Willow Dawson, Cameron Stewart, Ian Herring, Dan MacIntyre, Kyle J. Smith, and Gabe Sapienza.
Like most anthologies, this one is a mixed bag. Some good, some okay, and a couple that make you question the selection process.
The standout stories in this volume are Niro by Cameron Stewart, Till Love Do Us Part by Ramon Perez, and the Relocation Lottery by Taran Shadha, which is prose accompanied by a few beautiful-but only vaguely thematically related- illustrations by Nimit Malavia.
The art is the star in this collection of short pieces but it probably would be in longer books where the writer's could tell bigger stories. This is an incredible sampler that's definitely directing me to other books by artists and writers here.
Like Heavy Metal, this volume has beautiful art. Some of the stories are fully elucidated while others are slices, beginnings or ends. All worthwhile in context of seeing what creators can do when certain restrictions are lifted.
The most notable piece for me, was The Relocation Lottery. The premise is interesting. The idea that some people get relocated on an annual basis. Will it cause differences in the way they vote and what they care about?
