A gargoyle, a leprechaun, and a motorcycle gang walk into a bar…

Scratch that. A human woman (me) accidentally walks into a Faerie bar run by a leprechaun who keeps a cursed gargoyle on a shelf. Somehow, that gargoyle goes home with me, and I start dreaming of a man.

Doran. He’s trapped in stone and darkness, and only I can free him.

He says I’m the treasurekeeper, and I need to find his friends, the other treasures, so we can break his curse. He haunts me night and day, driving me to hurry. I can’t sleep. I can’t think. I have to find them. I have to free him.

Turns out his friends aren’t that hard to find, because they’re drawn to me, too. But these whiskey-drinking, tattoo-loving, motorcycle-riding badasses are resigned to their fate. Over the centuries, they’ve lost too many treasurekeepers to risk their hearts and souls again.

I have to find a way to convince them to join me. Before it’s too late.

☘️ Luck of the Irish ☘️

I savored this book y'all. It was pretty short, around 115 pages, but I dragged it out over days because of how much I loved how it made me feel. I picked this up due to needing something short and sweet, something that had good reviews after the absolute disaster that was The Nerd. I found this in my Kindle library, expecting a mindless read to get me ready for another book on my TBR. This blew me away.

This was a light-hearted read. It was a fun, paranormal adventure novel that did not end on a cliffhanger yet does have more books to it! Honestly, there definitely needed more to this story and these people and the gargoyle and the leprechaun! The storyline wasn't all that complicated and the plot and relationships moved fast, not quite in a sexual way, not until later. This was a slow-burn with one steamy scene at the end that hopefully leads into many, many more in the next book. There was instalove/lust. HOWEVER. You know with instalove, you read about how the characters are always thinking or saying "Oh, it's going so fast, it's never been like this before, am I moving too quickly, should I even bone them even though I REALLY want to?" Yeah, you get none of that here. One of my absolute favorite things about this book was the descriptions, the amount of showing, not telling. The characters didn't fight it, they just...succumbed to the attraction and tension that was building. You weren't told about the lust, you were shown it, almost experiencing it with them. There were so many tender touches or physical affection like light hand-kisses or running fingers through hair, hugs, kisses, reflecting on how settled Riann (FMC) felt because of the MMC's scents. I'm not even joking, these characters were described so well it was almost like I could see them or smell them. Which I thought was powerful considering I have aphantasia (basically I don't have a "mind's eye"- I can't create a mental image).

Joley Sue Burkhart is fantastic at creating feeling and bringing to life her characters. It was so soothing to me, that's why I took my time reading this. Her descriptions were making me sigh left, right, and center.

So why did I take off a star if I loved it so much? Well, I was confused at the beginning, the first 10-15% maybe. The story was a little choppy. I felt it could have been explained a bit better. Then, we have 5 gorgeous, amazing, sexy men who are Irish 🤤. Yet there was very little dialect written, enough that I kept forgetting about it and, in my head, imagined them speaking with an American- my default- accent. Gross, I know 😒. It seemed the author threw some of that dialect in near the end (yay), but I wanted it throughout!

I wasn't expecting to be diving into another series but I couldn't be more excited. The leprechaun, sorry Pointy Ears, sorry Warwick 🥵 is the main focus of Leprechauned? Say no more.

This was definitely an entertaining time, but I don't think I'm invested enough to continue on in the series. I was a bit annoyed how often the heroine would compare herself to her best friend because she didn't think she was as pretty or thin as her. I did like the sort of journey they had to go on to free the guy in the gargoyle statue, but nothing really hooked me or made me really care about the heroine and her relationship with each of the guys.

3.5 stars? This was quick and fun. Just wish it was more fun… if you know what I mean😉 Felt pretty surface level and I didn’t connect with the FMC.

I'm gonna keep this short since it is a novella, really and it has been a while since I finished reading it so forgive me if I mix up some details. But into the review. This is one of the better Joely Sue Burkhart books that I have read, this is straight up erotica with little character development and a plot that exclusively serves to get you the reader to a point where Ri our heroine can plausible get a harem.

As blurb reveals we have gargolyes, leprauchns and fae so this has a good setup for a fun series. I am really interested in continuing because the setup with Doran being trapped in stone in the past made me have a ton of questions that just didn’t have time to get answered. I am expecting to get introduced to even more Irish folklore, which I am excited for as I am not that versed in.

Normally, I’d go through the characters separately but I think it would be best to be dropped into the middle of the plot and you can figure out the dynamics. The mens powers are quite interesting but you should be more clearly warned if you are a plot driven reader this is bound to not be what you're looking for. There isn’t really a clear plot direction, save the vague notion to help Doran.

This novella didn't work for me at all. The primary reason is that it's not, IMO, a romance. It's a fantasy adventure. At 40 pages into the 113 page story, the heroine still hadn't met her heroes. Any of them. The story is basically her going around with her best friend trying to find the "four Irish treasures," which are unhuman/faerie-type dudes. Maybe they all get together in the end, but that doesn't make it a romance. The secondary reason this novella didn't work for me is that the heroine has body-love issues and I got really tired of hearing her put herself down and compare herself to her friend's body/beauty.

DNF I didn’t realize this was a reverse harem book not my thing. I also had an issue with something the heroine did had a man done this it would be assault so in my mind it’s the same thing for her.

I got the whole trilogy for free on a sale

I read only this one, because even though it was cute silly, it was still that, silly.

I liked that it was one of the shorter ones. A little mystery but more of a guided unlocking. Warwick was my favourite so hoping he's not a bad guy. Doran was the demanding control centre and Aidan was the guilt ridden past betrayal. Keane and Ivarr fell into the background, so I'm hoping they have their own moments. Fun and fast, looking forward to the next one.

Fun stoey. Completely not what I expected. It was very short, so the story or characters are not fleshed out as well, but as this is the beginning of a series, I believe it will expand later.

Why did you read this book?
I like RH romances and this one had a good rating.

What format did you read this book in?
Read it as an ebook on Kindle.

Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment?
I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.

What genres do you think this book belongs to?
Contemporary, Fantasy, Paranormal, Romance, Travel

What was your favorite part in the book? SPOILERS
My favorite part was the “token”. When not being held by the MC it’s a penny, but once in her hands it’s a golden coin. I though the concept was cool.

Who would you suggest this book to?
Anyone who likes Fae, and larger RH.

What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? SPOILERS
It was okay. I think the book started off strongly and had a compelling storyline but as the book progressed I felt like the author rush the story. The first two love interest (Dean and Warwick) developed a relationship with the MC. However, the last three love interest seem to be thrown in and their lack of relationship building was explained away (because of… magic!). Then the sex scene at the end was a bit too sudden for me. (Especially since the MC just came out of a toxic relationship and has self esteem issues… But nope the girl just jump right in.) Overall, I liked it but not enough to continue the series.

Are there any cliché scenes or concepts?
Born as the special chosen one.

How intense are the intimacy scenes?
Most of the intimacy scenes are fantasy/dreams. The only real intimacy scene in the book happens at the end where MMFMMM.

At what “burn” level is the romance?
Medium with a HOT finish.

Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender? SPOILERS
There are five romantic interests, all of them male.
Dean- Gargoyle trapped in stone.
Warwick- Leprechaun bartender.
Aidan, Keane, and Ivarr- All part of the same motorcycle gang. Personality wise I couldn’t tell them apart beside Aidan being an A-hole.

I wasn’t a fan of this as much as I thought. I finished it not even 5 minutes ago and I couldn’t tell you much about it. It just didn’t stick, I didn’t get hooked into it like I hoped. The idea was nice but the execution wasn’t.

This is a why choose, supernatural romance. A leprechaun (reason why I picked it up), a gargoyle, and some demons?

Want to be whisked away to a different reality where males care about you? Ms. Burkhart always delivers with her erotica tales. In this short story, readers enter into a world of the Irish Fae. This is a standalone story.

What I find interesting about this story is about a woman who is once again underappreciated and abused by her husband. The abuse may not be physical but the emotional one takes a terrible toll. This seems to be a reoccurring theme for many female authors. It makes me sad because if art reflects life, then there are too many abusive men and women who suffer for it.

Fortunately in this paranormal fantasy, Ri is taking a second chance with romance. Her new life aligns better to what she envisioned for herself. As an artist who was stifled by a square box husband, Ri is able to return to her passion - painting. Her paintings are haunting with its grim fantasy theme. So it makes sense that she falls for a gargoyle, a leprechaun, a few more fae males.

I wish this is a world that Ms. Burkhart can return to because it is intriguing. Recommended for fantasy readers who love happily ever afters.

Not good. I had super high hopes for this book. It started off decent but then……flopped. 😢

I’m ok with insta love if it’s done well but this was not the case. Didn’t make it to the end gave up prob the last quarter of the book just couldn’t force reading it any more.

I was kind of expecting this to be cheesy given the title, so I was pleasantly surprised when it wasn’t. I don’t think it was really a romance though, more adventure fantasy with RH romance undertones. There is only kissing until the very end when we get a very steamy group scene. I love Joely Sue Burkhart’s writing style though, and the narrator for the audio version was pretty good. I’ll definitely pick up the second when it’s released!

I had one major complaint and that was the way the FMC constantly belittled herself and compared herself to her gorgeous best friend. I know that it was explained away as her douchebag ex husband, but it went a lot beyond that, especially the constant comparisons. She was very insecure and distrustful of the men when they hadn’t given her any reason to be. I’m glad that they were able to kiss her insecurities away and sternly tell her to stop, and she did stop comparing, but she still continued to put herself constantly. I think it’s technically a novella so there wasn’t a lot of time for her to have a confidence arc, but I wish she had.

This reminds me of the show Lost Girl for some reason and I'm here for it. All the men are hot and possessive. Insta lust but it was good for a novella.

This was a freebie, because I don't think I would ever buy it. Even though I have a soft spot for Ireland and there folklore. So I was intrigued enough to get this and start it also. Because it doesn't mean you get read, when you come on my to read shelf.

I kind of like it, it was mostly hot and sexy times, but it had a quest in it as well and that kept it fun. For me it just isn't clear how it would continue now that the one quest is fulfilled. So I will continue to see where it does go.

This was alright. Very insta love and insta lust, and it felt like everything, even the non-romance part, was rushed and underdeveloped.

The series started to get better in book 2, which I gave 4 stars. Please see below for my spoiler-free review of book 2.

"I liked this more than book 1 because the relationships started to feel more real. The MC started behaving like a real person suddenly realizing she had thrown herself all in with 5 men she knew nothing about. We also started to get more of the fae aspects of the story instead of just the adventure/quest parts. Many things that felt flat and underdeveloped in book 1 started coming together, and it was revealed the author had a reason for writing book 1 the way she did. I appreciate a well-planned series, but it was a risky move since book 1 almost didn't have enough going for it to make me read Book 2.

Here's hoping book 3 continues the upward trend!"

This is basically just a set up for the heroine to get her group of dudes. Eh, it wasn’t doing much for me, but I am not into possessive alpha guys so this wasn’t written for me. I was interested to see if I enjoyed this author’s other series (since I like the Queen Takes series) and what I learned is to stick to the rivers and the lakes that I’m used to. I just can’t get into some of these bad boy giga Chad books. Even in the series I like of this author, I kinda glide over the descriptions of muscle and abs. I can do that because in that series they are complete simps and that works for me 😇
