Wow, this book had me laughing out loud throughout! The characters are so lively and realistic yet so charming! The main character, Steph, is so clumsy and after being dumped by her fiance is required to reflect on her next move. As clueless as she starts out, she is able to rely on her faith and new friends while she makes her way in life. There is also forgiveness as she humbles herself to her parents and finds the acceptance she needs from them. I also deeply admired her growth when she determines to figure out where she belongs in society without relying on a man or her parents. There is nothing inappropriate in this story at all which makes it so refreshing compared to so many books on the market these days. This author successfully and realistically brings characters to life including Steph, whose heart and convictions are stronger than she realizes. She even forgives those who have totally mistreated her and apologizes when all she wants to do is hide. Deciding to forgive those who have hurt you the most and apologizing to others you have mistreated instead of taking revenge or justifying yourself are remarkable traits even in fiction. Steph's character is uncomfortable and insulted more than once in public and through prayer and obedience she comes through doing what's right, not what's easy or popular. Her journey is admirable and hilarious and in the end she realizes who she is and where she belongs. Not everyone's journey fits so nicely within 250 pages of a story, but there is truth and authenticity in the way Perry writes. Not everyone will relate to Perry's characters, but many will be entertained by them in a positive way. Perry understands what it takes to write about flawed characters without including offensive material and the audience is able to experience God's grace as her characters do within her stories. I cherish these types of stories and I look forward to reading more of Perry's books.

Tea anyone? This is the perfect book to cozy up with under a warm blanket with a cup of chai tea! The Perfect Blend was my first experience reading a book by author Trish Perry and all I can say is what have I been missing?! This book is terrific in every way. The small town setting is incredible, the characters are awesome and the message is great!

From the very beginning I knew that reading this book was going to be a very interesting experience to say the least. A jilted bride, a quaint tea shop, a sweet grandmotherly lady and a hunky man with kind eyes and a great smile all in the first few chapters? Of course I was going to love it! I honestly can't remember the last contemporary Christian fiction book that I've read that featured a wealthy, knows how to dress, handsome hero! They always seem reserved for those steamy mass market romances which I don't read so I felt a bit left out! Those are my favorite types. Don't get me wrong I love a cowboy but a guy who rocks Hugo Boss suits...HELLO! And may I just say I don't think I've ever heard a guy referred to as Mr. Cutie Pants before in a novel? from that nickname alone you know there's got to be humor in this book and there is. I laughed out loud more times than I could count.

The romance was there and the relatable characters were there so for me this is going on the top of my Books of 2010 list. It may be a little "iffy" since everything took place in about 2 weeks time but I'm looking forward to reading more developments in the next book of this series and hopefully continue to get to know the folks of Middleburg and the Tea Shop a little more! The Perfect Blend is as light and refreshing as a watercress tea sandwich and I recommend it for everyone who loves romance/Christian fiction/chic lit. 5 stars!

When I first saw that The Perfect Blend was the first in the Teashop Series, I knew I had to read it. It doesn’t get much more appealing to me than to have a book that revolves around a cozy little tea shop in a cozy little town. Of course, the fact that it was written by Trish Perry doesn’t hurt either. I’ve always enjoyed her books, and The Perfect Blend is no exception.

The Perfect Blend is a quick read and an enjoyable romance. The small town of Middleburg welcomes Steph with open arms when she is left at the altar, allowing her to start over fresh and find new love. At first it felt a little strange that Steph could be so attracted to Kendall so quickly after being dumped by her fiancé, but as the story continued and the chemistry between them developed, it felt more natural and real. The story has an added twist when Steph’s ex returns hoping to win her back. All this drama felt very natural and real. It never felt like too much and the tension level was minimal. Trish did a very good job with this book and I am looking forward to more from The Teashop Series. It’s light, and cozy, and charming.

I don't think I would have read this book if it wasn't an old family classic to my sisters. I'm really glad i read it though, as it's a good one for joking around some day with family. Sitting down at a sleep over with sisters this is a fine one to pull up.
I can't count the amount of times one of my sisters has whispered "Absolutely yummy." any time they bite into a croissant.

An absolutely delightful, addictive read!

This was my first Trish Perry read (found this story in the 'A Love to Keep' Christian romance boxed set), but it certainly won't be my last.

Ms Perry has such an engaging way of writing - not only with a storyline which draws readers in, but with believable and lovable characters, unexpected scenarios, loads of tension sprinkled with awkwardness, and about the most realistic dialogue I've read in a long time.

Loved this story and its array of charming people! Although this book is longer than 400 pages, I didn't want the story to end!

A fabulous read.

A Lovely Read!

This was a great book with many scenes taking place in a delightful-sounding tea shop. There was a serious theme centering on the fear of not being accepted, but the author did a wonderful job of showing character growth as the heroine realizes that God accepts her and she accepts herself as God created her. A lovely read, especially with tea and scones!

I actually really enjoyed this one. Solidly written, lovable characters, a few good “villains”, and a cozy small town atmosphere. Some Hallmark cheese, but all in all a really well done, simple heartwarming, read.

So much fun to read, although there are sad moments. I gasped at Steph's impulsive actions 9even though she's not an impulsive person and laughed at her human mistakes. Interesting characters and a community of warm, well-meaning people, with some not so nice ones. A sweet Christian romance.

The usual Christian fiction romance. It’s a light-hearted, fast-moving, predictable, repetitive story that made me both laugh and roll my eyes. I’ve known a couple 20-something women as shallow and boy crazy as the main character, but other things in the story were a bit too far-fetched for me. Regardless, it’s a fun book for those who enjoy this genre.

Steph Vandergrift left her family, friends, and job in Baltimore to elope with Rick Manfred, a Middleburg attorney, against her controlling parent’s wishes. Problems for Steph begin when Rick ‘neglects’ to show up for the wedding. Alone and deserted in a strange city, a very distraught and weepy Steph is befriended by Milly, owner of Millicent’s Tea Shop, on the morning of her “planned’ wedding. Milly offers her a temporary job at her shop. At the Tea Shop the next day, Steph meets sisters Liz and Christie Burnham and Kendall James.

Kendall James, dubbed ‘Mr. Cutie Pants’ by the sisters, owns and works the Fox and Hounds Hotel, where Steph is staying temporarily, since her honeymoon suite was paid in advance by Rick. When Kendall meets Steph, he’s hooked. She’s apprehensive about men. Thus the tension arises.

The Perfect Blend is my first book by Trish Perry, and I absolutely loved it! She nailed the romantic tension between Kendall and Steph. The playful bantering that is so typical for a newly acquainted couple. The extra ‘touch’ of his handshake. The gentlemanly manner in how he cares for her needs, yet not being pushy. All this and more, and, he’s the most eligible bachelor in Middleburg!

Just as Steph is willing to reciprocate Kendall’s romantic gestures, Rick shows up, repentant and willing to prove his love. Steph has to decide once again if Rick is trustworthy enough to marry, especially based on conversations she’s overheard. Are they the perfect blend she thought they were? The sisters have their opinions on the matter!

Although Steph is initially abandoned by Rick, she has a strong faith that God will supply her needs for work, friends and a place to live by praying for wisdom to know what to do. And answer He does! Just maybe not how she thinks He will!

A 5.o rating based on characters and circumstances portrayed in a very realistic manner. Aptly, Trish was into the characters’ dilemmas and emotions. She kept me entertained and laughing out loud at the antics and bantering comments made, definitely holding my attention!

“The Perfect Blend” was an absolute delight reading and it stands out that it combines innocent humor, romance that is pure and doesn’t involve implying but rather, if I had this book laying out, I couldn’t worry if my daughter would read.

There is old fashion chivalry, and as I was reading, “The Perfect Blend” , I couldn’t help but think how it reminds me of the 40′s movies where there is no sensuality but rather sweet humor charm that perpetrated the old romances of back then.

Along with the clean cut romance, is the bottom layer story of trusting our Father, and bringing what it had intended, “A fun, romantic story about tackling the unexpected moment of life with courage, faith, prayer, and good friends, and discover how wonderfully life changing, those moments can be.”

The characters are not perfect and have a past that brings a warm hearted believability that makes them both three dimensional but also likable that draws the reader into the story.

“The Perfect Blend”
is just well written, well detailed and it isn’t your average romance novel. It’s very sweet that it leaves you hoping and wishing that there is a town like Middleburg or a tea shop like Millicent, with both warm, caring and funny townspeople that the main character, Steph, encounters.

I also like how Trish Perry interweaves Steph’s conflict with being a 26 year old and dealing with being a Christian, honoring her parents, but also striving for independence that wasn’t dishonoring to her family, her faith or to her friends.

With,“The Perfect Blend”, the reader will find the perfect blend of a romantic, not romance, but romantic, faith filled fiction that, although isn’t heavy on scriptural references, does have underlying in the story, the struggles of being true to one’s faith, not being luke-warm, being true to oneself and to our Father and blending it all in a perfect balance of a delight filled fictional tale of Steph Vandergrift as she finds herself stranded in a strange town.

When Steph decides to leave her friends and family behind in Maryland, to elope with Rick Manfred, she is devistated when she arrives at his law firm in Middleburg Va. to find him gone, on a temporary leave of absence.Stephs just been jilted and not sure what to do when Milly, the owner of a quaint little tea shop comes to her rescue, with a temporary job, Steph figures this might give her a slight repreive while she figures out her next move. She knows there is no way she can go back home to Maryland, and she isn't sure she wants to anyway.

When Kendall James the owner of the inn where Steph is staying starts to take an interest in her, she isn't sure that it is friendship or something more that he has in mind, and when Rick shows up saying he wants her back, will Steph give in, or will she finally see the kind of man Rick really is?

Steph's character was fun to read, she comes off as bumbling and often clutzy. It was interesting to see her character develop and realize that she already had acceptance from God, and didn't need to find it elsewhere. There was also some humerous elements in this book that provided a few chuckles.
I think my favorite character in the story had to be Milly, she seemed to be the patriarch of the group, but she had no problems sharing her more human moments with Steph, showing her that everyone has there weak moments and make mistakes.

I also must mention the author adds a few yummy recipies from Millicent's Tea Shop for us to try!

A fun story with The Perfect Blend of romance, faith, good friends, and Gods love. A great book, perfect for a rainy day, or anytime you need a few hours of escapism!

The Perfect Blend is the first story in The Teashop series. The next book in this series will be Tea For Two which will be released April 1st, 2011. I can't wait to make another trip to Milly's tea shop!

Steph Vandergrift leaves her home, job, friends and family in Baltimore and moves to Middleburg to elope with Rick Manfred. But when she arrives in Middleburg she discovers that Rick is nowhere to be found. All alone and in need of a friend, and a job, as well as a shoulder to cry on, she meets Milly, who offers all three.

Milly is the owner of Millicent’s Tea Shop. Milly takes her into the tea shop to talk over a cup of tea. As Steph begins to feel a bit better, she discovers that Milly’s assistant is away on vacation. Steph offers to help Milly out and ends up filling in for the time that her assistant is away.

Kendall James is the owner of the Fox and Hounds Inn. He is dashing, kindhearted, and single. Steph and Kendall begin a wonderful friendship, which hints at becoming more, but Steph doesn’t want to enter another relationship without counting the cost first.

Liz and Christie, are sisters, who also befriend Steph and invites her to move in with them as a roommate.

Rick Manfred is an attorney at his father’s law firm. When he returns to Middleburg, will Steph allow him to win her back, or will she seek God’s council for what she should do?

I had a little bit of trouble getting into this book, but after the first couple of chapters I was hooked. Trish Perry adds romance, humor, faith, hope, courage, friends, love and prayer into her recipe for a well written story.

The last few pages of the book includes discussion questions and recipes, that I can't wait to try, from Milly’s kitchen.

I look forward to the next book in this series, Tea For Two and I think you will too, after you have read The Perfect Blend by Trish Perry.

Title: THE PERFECT BLEND
Author: Trish Perry
Publisher: Harvest House Books
September 2010
ISBN: 978-0-7369-3015-4
Genre: Inspirational/romance

Steph Vandergrift has burned all her bridges behind her. She abruptly left her job, her friends, her parents, her apartment and everything to elope with attorney Rick Manfred, a man her friends and parents didn’t approve of. Steph never imagined that Rick would stand her up.

Now, Steph is in an unfamiliar town, with no job and no home. Rick was kind enough to pay for a few days at a local hotel, so Steph decides to take full advantage of that.

When Milly offers Steph a temporary job at her tea shop, Steph accepts, and also begins a wonderful friendship with Milly and some of her friends. Steph also meets Kendall James, who seems to be interested in dating her. But Steph doesn’t want to date on the rebound, and by the time she thinks she interested her runaway fiancé had returned. Does God intend for Steph to be with Rick? Or does he have something else in mind?

THE PERFECT BLEND is a fun romantic story with several laugh out loud moments. I thoroughly loved this book, and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. It isn’t a really fast read, it took me several days to read through it (I can read some books through in a day) but that didn’t take away from the books goodness.

Steph is a realistic heroine, brave when her world was falling apart, though she didn’t see it that way. And Kendall is an absolute dream. I loved the way he thought on his feet and his quick comebacks. If you are looking for a wonderful romance, then pick up Trish Perry’s THE PERFECT BLEND. Some yummy sounding recipes are included at the end of the book. $9.99. 246 pages.

Today I completed the novel The Perfect Blend by Trish Perry. The story was a delight to read. A new author thanks to Barnes & Nobles in store free reading. Although I began the book as an in store read, I quickly purchased because it is a must read again. The story had numerous lessons of trust, acceptance, friendship, faith, and learning to set healthy boundaries.

Sometimes it is difficult for parents to let go of their children; however, as they mature and grow we must learn to allow them to make decisions. Supporting our children in the decisions they make is not always easy but that is where faith in God comes in place. We can raise them in the way that they should go and then we must trust God that they will never depart. (Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”)

Another lesson demonstrated in the story is acceptance. Many times we search for acceptance from others, friends, family, spouses, etc. but God is the one we should be searching for. (Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”) God is the one that we should aspire to please and to do His will. The perfect blend is learning to accept God’s loving acceptance and trusting God’s will for our lives.

THE PERFECT BLEND, is really…the perfect blend! The perfect blend of romance with a sometimes clumsy, funny, endearing heroine and a hunky, suave hero that just takes my breath away. The perfect blend of humor and a story that delivers a message worth the weight of the scones from Miss Milly’s kitchen.

This book is full of quirky, lovable, laughable characters that will warm the heart of the reader. I don’t know if I would call this romantic comedy, because it is more than just light hearted moments, but also filled with underlying messages and themes for the reader to take away and enjoy as they worked in the character’s lives.

There were some pretty funny moments though, like my favorite when Kendell swaps shirts in front of Steph. You will have to read it to know why I find this so deliciously funny. Or the moment in the bathroom with the air freshener. Priceless moments that still make me chuckle to think about.

The romance made me sigh, the hero made me swoon and the heroine is strong and determined, but needs to learn her share of lessons. From cover to cover I enjoyed this book and hope I get the chance to check out book two! I will be eagerly awaiting its arrival.

This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers through FIRST for my copy to review.

Steph Vandergrift is an only child, who is used to getting her way. Her parents have voiced their displeasure at her idea of marrying Rick Manfred, a young man she barely knows, and for once in her life, she defies them, and leaves Baltimore to head to lovely Middleburg Virginia to marry her dream man.

Left at the altar, however Steph finds herself sitting in tears wondering what in the world she has done, when along comes the sweetest lady she has ever met. Inviting Steph into her tea shop for a hug and a spot of tea, Milly offers her a temporary job filling in for her regular assistant who is on vacation. Steph finds herself falling in love with the quaint town of Middleburg, and even more attracted to one certain citizen of Middleburg. Making friends quickly and finding a place to live, Steph is starting a new life. When Rick shows back up, willing to stand up to his parents and wanting to rekindle the flame. Now Steph has to decide is that what she wants.

An amusing tale, wonderfully written by Trish Perry, this book is sure to keep your attention. I enjoyed the story and also was proud to see young Steph, show her faith in God. Definitely a great book to read this fall! 246 pages US $9.99 4 stars

This was a great book. It was fun and sweet and a great mixture of romance and Christianity. Steph was a very likable character, who had a lot of things to learn about herself. The epiphany she has toward the end of the book is something we all can learn from, that God’s acceptance (as opposed to others’ acceptance) is all we really need. Kendall was really sweet and quite swoon-worthy, too. I loved his humor and his ability to take everything in stride. The plot moves along quickly. It’s not something I felt I had to read as quickly as possible, and that’s good. I was able to take my time (well, not rush at least) and absorb more of the story. I could relate to Steph’s faith and her tendency to turn to God as a last resort. I just wish I was as quick to learn as she is! Added bonus: There were some laugh-out-loud moments, too! I’m always up for that!

There were a couple of things that I found somewhat predictable. One was her job situation and another was Chip – who he is. There were a couple of other smaller things I was able to guess ahead of their occurring, but it wasn’t enough to spoil the book. And, really, these are minor “issues” – if I can even all them that. Overall, I really enjoyed The Perfect Blend, and would recommend it to anyone who likes light and sweet with romance mixed in.

Steph is symbolically left at the altar when her self-centered fiance doesn't show up to meet her when she arrives in town. Perfect shopkeeper Milly rescues Steph from humiliation gives her a sympathetic shoulder to cry on and a temporary job at the tea shop. Perfect innkeeper Kendall shows an interest and introduces Steph around town. She meets two nice sisters in need of a roommate and proceeds to get herself fired from every place she works outside of the tea shop.

Add a bit of drama, an additional ex-fiancee and some misunderstandings and you have The Perfect Blend. Light on the Christian as Steph learns to stand up for herself and finds what it is she wants out of life. A light diversion. Nothing more. Fans of Trish Perry will love it. I didn't. I found myself annoyed and impatient for it to be finished. I never really connected with Steph and Rick and his mother were extreme caricatures and everyone else was one-dimensional.

This appears to be the first in a new series, so we will be seeing more of Milly and her tea shop. Perhaps recurring characters will be fleshed out a bit in subsequent books. A bonus is the tea shop recipes included at the back of the book.

The Perfect Blend (The Tea Shop Series) is a sweet romance about a young woman who left her home, family and job to elope with a man with whom her parents disapproved. When she shows up at the appointed place and time, she finds that he did not. Now she is an hour and a half from home with no job, no friends and no husband. What is she to do? Well, she wanders into a tea shop and makes a friend of the owner and gets herself a temporary job there. The owner also introduces her to a handsome and nice guy. Just as things are starting to look interesting, her ex-fiancee shows up. Who will win her heart?

This is a Christian romance and besides meaning we don't get any steamy scenes, it also means we listen to Steph saying she wants to follow God's way, and we know that she attends church with her roommates, but I wouldn't call it preachy. It is also the story of Steph learning to set limits on other people, including her parents.

All in all, it was kind of like a tea shop--not necessarily real substantial, but a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.

First Wildcard will tour this book November 5. Check back then to read the first chapter. I'd like to thank the publisher for my complimentary review copy. Grade: B.

THE PERFECT BLEND by Trish Perry is not the typical genre I read. I would classify THE PERFECT BLEND as quirky, chick-lit. But to my surprise, I did enjoy it more than expected.

Steph Vandergrift has found herself in no-man’s land . . . literally. After giving up her job, home, friends, and parents for her fiancé, Rick Manfred, she is devastated to show up in Middleburg only to find out Rick is on “a sudden leave of absence”. Befriended by Milly, a tea shop owner, Steph sets out to prove to her parents, and herself, that she can make a go of it on her own. She doesn’t need a man in her life. Of course, when she meets Kendall James, owner of the Fox and Hounds Inn, she reminds herself not all men are bad.

THE PERFECT BLEND is a fitting title. Not just because the majority of the story takes place in Milly’s Tea Shop, but it nicely blends romance, self-evaluation, quirky friendships, and a bit of sass. Peripheral characters like Christie and Liz round out this simple story. There’s no suspense or high drama that keeps you from putting the book down. But whenever you do pick it up, it’s sure to put a smile on your face.

"The Perfect Blend" is truly the perfect blend of humor, trials of life, faith and romance. It is just one of those books that you love to snuggle with and read on a quiet afternoon. Make sure to reserve a nice block of time, because you won't want to put it down once you get started!

I really enjoyed the whole storyline of a young woman looking to find herself after she was stood up "at the alter". I found her journey and faith, as well as her self-doubt, made her an interesting although somewhat of a bubble-headed character at times.

There were so many great characters in this story, which made this a cozy and heartwarming read. I just wanted to get to know everyone and spend time with them as they all had such interesting outlooks on life. I was sad that the book ended and really look forward to the next in the series. Actually, I can't wait it to come out!! I am looking forward to spending more time with all the lovely people in Middleburg.
