Ok I keep changing my rating on this one and I started at 3 stars because of a small issue, then went to four a year later and now another year later I’m going to five stars!!! Queen of indecision over here 🤩👍🏼 But a book I think about how much I love years later deserves it!! Everybody go try a Chase book, his writing and characterization is simply something to behold.💜 I recommend starting with A Surplus of Light!!

this was almost five stars, but the . i wouldn't really call this a bully romance bc the bullying aspect was written off quick, but they were SO freaking wholesome during their intimate moments that the insta love didn't bother me as much as i thought it would.
i loved how Dex was all or nothing for Alex, and Alex's mom was the real mvp of this book. 😌

Update I was thinking whether to update it or not. But, to be honest I read this book today when I was stuck waiting. First for a while and then that while expanded to few more pages and then I wanted to see the end so yeah I end up reading it. 🤭🤭Hey, I never claimed to be a person of strong will. I think by now everyone should know about fickle nature.
New judgement I still hated most of their dirty talk But after around the 30% mark you do feel that both Dex and Alex have become a cute couple. The relationship does not feel original or even believable but there are some beautiful moments. So, I will go with 2-2.5Stars.
1. Their sexual journey. The author wrote a very convincing account of first-time sex.
2. The epilogue, though it's different than what we normally expect in a romance book, guarantees a HEA, and the HEA looks more justified for a bully romance.
3. The cuteness factor of the couple and overall it has some fun moments.

OR This feels like reading a bad porno, a really bad one. Just using words like bitch, fag, pansy, cocksucker doesn't guarantee a good humiliation kink.
Maybe it will improve and maybe the author is not good with erotica but I can't continue when it feels worse than reading porn from a free web page. This is the most terrible and blandest smut I have ever read. And, I am bored to death and I am still at 90 pages(all of it was smut and grammatical mistakes🤭🤭), not going to wait and watch my slow death for 250+ pages.😩😩

Dear Chase,
You've been a neglecting parent to Bully-the-book and I feel deeply for him. Yes, I'm giving this book a deserving pronoun because I care about him. Well, somebody has to!
His responsible caretaker (aka you) didn't even give him the right name! How could he be named "Bully"? How about "Ex-Bully" or even "Not A Bully AT ALL"?
Also, that's a nice cover but I'm wondering did you read the book before choosing it?
I think you didn't care about Bully-the-book because you left him to wander in the KU with an untreated case of Disassociative Identity Disorder. He's been hanging around, dazed and confused, with a lot of unanswered questions.
What am I?
Who is my audience?
Have I ever had a beta reader?
Why does no one want to fix my mistakes?

You already told us he was originally born an erotica and Wowza what a start! It was filthy and disturbing and downright wrong but believe it or not, some of us perverts get off on that kind of material. #unashamed. You even threw a dash of BDSM in the mix which was appreciated. I particularly enjoyed the consensual "man gravy" feeding scene and I was getting into the mood for more disgusting filthy content but what you did instead?
You pulled out! Too soon too quick and then Bully-the-book was turned into a fucking YA! And by that, I mean an adult YA that is not meant for the YA! So Halleluja! Bring it on sista!!
I was on cloud nine and I forgave you -too quickly- for this sudden turn of events. I went with the flow until the flow became "just okay".
YA is your turf and you're good at it. But Bully-the-book wasn't built on the right foundation. Your effort in telling the story of the angsty life of those teenagers was obvious but it wasn't enough. You couldn't pull off an erotica YA and to be honest who can blame you?!
At this point, Bully-the-book is in trouble. He has lost all his erotica/just-curious readers and those of us who still sticking around are confused as hell!
Is it now a drama and not erotica?

And then around 80%, a real bully shows up. The purpose of this new storyline seems random and it's only close to the end of the book that I realize you decided to change lanes from a panster to a plotter at some point in the writing journey of this book. Yet again another blow to the fragile personality of the poor Bully-the-book.
I'm not saying there's no hope for Bully-the-book but if he wants to continue living on your display shelf then he is in desperate need of your attention.
I have to mention here that although I'm bruised and battered after reading this book, I forgive both you and Bully-the-book and no it's not because of that emotional turbulence you kindly pushed me into at the last minute with that pre-epilogue (thanks for the inspiration for this open letter by the way!). It's just because I've read your other books and I've enjoyed them immensely and I know you'll write more amazing books and I'm going to read them no matter how many times you mixed up Dex and Alex's names in this book.

June 8, 2020I don’t feel like I can rate this book fairly, so I won’t. For personal reasons it was a DNF. I only read up until Part 5 then completely skipped the rest to read the final 2 epilogues and find out how it ended.
Those first 5 chapters were really hard for me to get through. Even as role-play, the sexual dynamic between Dex and Alex was not my cup of tea. I read a whole lot of kinky/taboo stuff but that level of degrading verbal humiliation, especially between teenagers, just isn’t a kink I enjoy.
The epilogues however were a completely different tone, as these two get their HEA. With an 8 year time jump after an estrangement I enjoyed Alex’s treatment of Dex. But I wonder, if you read the whole book, if there is enough grovelling on-page to make up for the angst. I just don’t know. What I will say is I much preferred reading these two as adults working through their issues than I did as teenagers.

If you've read any of Chase Connor's previous books, you know that there is very little steam. And that's not a bad thing. That level of steam fits Connor's stories.
Now, forget all about that because Bully will completely blow you (heh) out of the water.
I knew Bully was a departure from what I'm accustomed to with Conner's writing--I mean, just read the blurb--but I was still pleasantly surprised at the downright naughtiness. There's no fade-to-black, no behind-closed-doors adult fun. It's all out there in explicit detail.
When I think of erotica, I think of little to no deep feelings, just naughty bits everywhere. Bully has enough sexy times to satisfy, but it also has some endearingly tender and sweet moments.
The last two parts of the story were what hit me the most. There was a lot unexpected throughout, but it's the the two parts that threw me for a loop in the best way. The second to last part is definitely my favorite; the dialogue is funny and raw and snarky, and I just loved it.

Honestly, I don't know how to review this book without spoilers...
At first I thought it didn't sound like Chase Connor at all. I mean, it was definitely his voice, but the words were...not his. I don't know.
I like to think of Chase as my friend (I have vivid imagination), and this book is like when your friend has a concussion and starts behaving differently.
I was confused.
Luckily, it didn't last long. Confusion, not the book. I would like this book to be longer.
Bully is a story about not judging book by its cover. It's coming of age story, but with a twist. You never know what exactly is behind the facade. And you can't judge until you look inside. Sometimes people surprise you. In a good and in a bad way.
This is a book that I will certainly reread. And recommend to anyone. This is like 8 out 5 stars.

Chase connor is best at writing emotions. from My previous experiences Ik he tries to keep the amount of Smut Minimum . And tbh that totally works for him each time. Specially in A Surplus of Light That's quite an underrated geM! So when I heard last year he's coming up with a book full of steam and a very questionable title I was a bit doubtful. That's totally not what he usually writes. But again Chase Connor is a trusted name. Finally I picked it yesterday and It was surprisingly good.
Sure it started as a nerd jock force scene with slight LE WAS kink. But soon they developed a Mutual understanding and respect, which followed by Love and. Nah I'm not going to spoil it for you!
We can divide the story in three part, first where Dex totally acted like a dick and Alex loved being used! Then The first everything..... First kiss, forst sex, first boyfriend, first love and Much More! And lastly the timeline of 8 years later. Where everything untangled. expressing grief, heartbreak, regret and pure love! Chase connor shined each part equally. Though the last 100 page was More of his usual staff I absolutely enjoyed the rest too.
And in a long while I found my heart all doing acrobat, My emotional nerves doing ballet! It's good. But not perfect. If I had power I'd love to see some Minor changes, though I'm still content with whatever we got. A 4/4.5* read for sure!
And if You're planning to read it, i'd recoMMend to hold your patience. It gets better and better. Nothing but for the last 30 pages, you should read it!

This wasn’t at all what I was expecting, but I loved it🥰Some of the language used in the steamy scenes (and they were steamy🔥🔥🔥) was a bit unsophisticated, but other than that the writing and the story had all the feels💕
I was actually taken by surprise at the epilogue, didn’t see it coming at all and it was actually really moving, but it came with a HEA too, so we can deal ☺️

So this was not what I was expecting to read, tbh. It was much deeper. But man, a dual pov would've helped a lot.
And as a head's up, this one does have an attempted SA in it.
Spoilers ahead.
So in here, Alex is a young man who works a part-time job in a grocery store. Working alongside him is another teen called Dex. Dex was a bully to Alex. Nothing but slurs and meanness for over a year until one day Dex sort of forces Alex to blow him in the alleyway. This is the start of their relationship. I say sort of because Alex is a sub and gets off on being told what to do, but since both of them are innocents, talking isn't something they do. Things go fast and they are together, sort of. Dex is not out to his parents.
One day, another teen beats up and tries to SA Alex after work. Being worried about what Dex would do he doesn't say anything. But this affects him deeply. After awhile, Alex does tell Dex the truth but Dex actually believed the other teen and said some horrible stuff to Alex and never spoke to him again.
Eight years later, these two meet by accident and begin anew.
First off, I so appreciated that these guys were 18. They we're still in school but not under aged.
Second off, I think I would have been able to understand the ending more if we had Dex's pov, but as it was, I didn't understand why Alex would be with him again.
Third off (couldn't resist), I really wish therapy would have been mentioned at some point. What happened to Alex was horrible and he needed help.

This book was a mess, there is no other way to describe it.
It started with a bang, Alex and Dexter were portrayed as enemies initially, they worked at the same grocery store in a small town, went to the same high school and were not part of the same crowd. They had nothing in common except for the fact that they were coworkers and Dexter was (at first) this over the top jackass closet case. We see Alex go about his duties on the job in spite of the fact that he's bullied constantly and maintain his sense of calm, then straight out of a book of random encounters, Alex finds himself at the feet of his tormentor ready to suck his dick (literally that's what happens) and is openly willing to because he apparently has a sadistic kink only revealed in that instant.
WTF.
This sets the tone for the rest of the plot...or so you think, after we get thrown for a loop with that moment of insanity Dexter's character does a full one eighty and no longer reads like he's two brain cells away from being brain dead, instead he becomes this bashful, overly attentive, sweet, caring teenager that for a moment I wasn't sure if this was the same story I started reading. Characters in this book had no middle ground when demonstrating emotions, they were either syrupy sweet of raging assholes and I just didn't care for all the emotional acrobatics.
There was no reason for this to be so long, the "babe" endearments were so overused I mentally screamed shut the fuck up, every time I saw it. Everything about this book was overdone including the ridiculous ending.
The author spent so much time trying to convince us these characters loved each other only to undermine his/her own story with the implication of lack of trust on Dexter's part over some frivolous accusations.
It was ridiculous.
I can't waste my time any more with this review, read if you're a fan of the author or bored, I don't recommend otherwise.

This one was hard for me to rate. Ultimately it gets 4 stars for being a very different experience.
For better or worse (your mileage may vary on this), this is not the book it appears to be in the first few chapters. By the latter parts, it’s not even the same book you were reading up to the halfway point. Near the end, it’s another book yet again.
If the idea of having your expectations subverted in this way appeals, then you’ll probably find the shifts in tone to be refreshing. I really did feel by the end that I had just wrapped up three distinct books: one of YA erotica (YA in terms of character age, not subject matter!), one of YA coming-out romance, and one that I won’t mention because possible spoilers.

I absolutely LOVE the story! From the start till end. Though i think the book cover and name not match the story itself. But stil it was amazing!
The last parts i read with "WHAT THE... ?!" on my face. "How THAT was possible?!" but OK. I'm deal with it hehehe.
When i read the book i can't stop think about characters. I think the one from this picture are close as Dex and Alex for me.

I had several times during the book where I honestly thought of just stopping, which makes it likely it's not written for me.
Overall it's a very sweet story with some steamy content, though at times I was as confused about the 180 turn Dex kept doing, as Alex was.
Loving parent, supporting friends and very open community, it was all there and it had times with humour along with painful moments.
The story felt like it was several ideas pushed in to one book, and not all of them went together, beginning, middle and end could have been three books and maybe it should have, they were all so different. Also the time jump took away a big part of the story I felt.
Though I can't forgive inaccurate steamy scenes in something that is a hardcore erotica. Gag reflex and lube, specially among first timers is a bigger thing than this book makes it out to be, it ruined some of the story for me.
Overall it's a very sweet story with some steamy content, though at times I was as confused about the 180 turn Dex kept doing, as Alex was.

So am like wow good premise..a Chase Connor book what could go wrong.
You see am making my way through Connor's books because I've read two really good ones.
Apparently everything. Both MCs giggled and chucked alot and the term" babe "was used entirely too much.
How Dex can go from this supposedly Bully to being "dick whipped" threw me for a loop. I was as confused as ALEX.
I mean I don't read too much YA, so I don't know how much sex is too much sex at this age, not saying that it was too much but some descriptions had me like "wtf".
I didnt care much for either MC and at about 90% I started skimming.
However this won't deter me from COnnor's books.
On to the next one.
Just need to get this taste out of my mouth.

I almost DNF’d this during ch. 1. The scene felt like sexual assault. However, I’m glad I continued on. It turned into a wonderful love story (sexy) between 2 HS seniors, one of whom is a jock exploring his homosexuality for the first time, with both expected and unexpected consequences.
The romance arc is typical up until the last couple of chapters. Very unexpected. Kind of like hitting a brick wall. But I rolled with it. There is a very satisfying HEA.

This was a sweet story, if you don't count the start and the drama at the end. The start and ending just didn't really make sense to me. Dex was a great guy, so making him into a bully and the bullshit at the ending just didn't gel together for me. And the timeline at the end, was too long for My liking. Apart from that I liked this book.

Alex está incómodo cada vez que va a trabajar, su compañero de trabajo, Dexter, lo molesta todo el tiempo con insultos e insinuaciones sexuales. Hasta una noche que lo sigue al callejón detrás de la tienda y la tensión sexual entre ellos finalmente explota. Alex está desesperado por lo que Dexter le ofrece, aunque la relación que desarrollan va evolucionando en algo más.
Este libro no puede ser clasificado como bueno o malo. Está dirigida a un público específico que se sienta bien con las fantasías de consentimiento dudoso (dub-con). La relación que tienen Alex y Dexter es dolorosa de ver desde un punto de vista psicológico, pero candente como fantasía. Los primeros capítulos están completamente enfocados en la relación física y esa dinámica desbalanceada de poder. Pero llega un momento en que los personajes dan más de sí y los sentimientos empiezan a desarrollarse y la dinámica de pareja cambia a algo más profundo: ya no se trata solo de sexo, se trata de conocerse como personas y aprender a valorar lo que tienen.
Aunque el autor diga muy claro que no es una historia coming of age, creo que es muy interesante observar la evolución de carácter de Dex. Desde el acosador insoportable hasta el devoto enamorado. Todo lo que tiene que pasar para salir del clóset y enfrentarse a todo para darle la importancia que merece Alex en su vida. Su cambio resulta tan radical que casi sin dos historias distintas, pero el autor supo explicarlo bien, a mi parecer.
Alex es un personaje más complejo de entender, es un adolescente normal y muy seguro de sí mismo, pero le excitan los roles en sus fantasías (o en la realidad, más bien). También es interesante ver su cambio de actitud de una relación puramente física a aceptar una relación romántica.
Me gustó tanto la evolución de ambos y su relación, que fue un completo horror ver ese salto temporal y leer ese 8 años después. Ahí fue donde el autor me perdió completamente. ¿Era realmente necesario? Contarnos casi de pasada lo que ocurrió fue horrible... y entonces sabiendo lo que sabemos, resulta aún más insoportable que tenga final feliz. Aún sabiendo que su relación no era de lo más convencional, creo que hay cosas que sencillamente no se pueden perdonar.
El nivel de inglés es intermedio alto, si quieres comprender todos los detalles candentes en las escenas eróticas XD Pero es bastante fácil de entender.

If you are familiar with Chase Connor's other books, you'll soon find this one's definitely a little more on the spicy side.
To be completely honest, while reading the first chapter, I wasn't quite sure in which direction the story was going to go. I'll admit to being a little nervous.
However, as it always is with this author, I was soon very easily captivated by the story. I couldn't put it down. All day.
It involves two 18 year old guys who are total opposites and -- to all appearances -- completely despise each other. But, as most things in life, things are rarely as they appear on the outside.
For fear of giving away too much of the storyline, I won't go into any of the details. It would be so easy to spoil it, and I definitely want you to read this one.
But yes. This book definitely has some smexy times. Some bow-chicka-bow-wow. Actually, a lot of it. Not gonna lie. BUT, as I should have known, Chase Connor would not just leave it there.
This is also a beautiful love story. I cried. Ok, I cried several times if you must know. This author has a gift for writing in such a way that always leaves me feeling wrung out by the end of each book...in the very best way.
His words just make me FEEL. Everything. I swear I go through every feeling imaginable while reading his writing. And this one is no different.
This story took me on quite a ride (no pun intended, I swear), and I absolutely loved every second of it.
Did I mention how much I love this author's work yet? I have? Just wanted to make sure you knew. Read this book. Read ALL of his books. They're amazing.

I’m struggling a bit to find the words to describe this reading experience, but let there be no doubt it was a good one. The twist near the end confused me for a while, but then I got it. It made me angry at one of the MCs though, before it got better again. But I guess that’s the whole point with a reading experience - it’s supposed to be an *experience*.
Don’t let the title or the blurb fool you. It may be described as erotica because of the many graphic sex scenes, but they’re actually way better portrayed than in many other mm stories, and in this one they have their place. And the story is much much more than just sex on a stick for you to lick on. I mean, this author will never disappoint you because the stories are always so well written and thought through, with a natural flow to them. This one too. What I really really liked was the support of friends and family (except the one family, and the one bully), and then the final ongoing conversation, first at the restaurant and later at home between the two. That was epic. Sassy Alex is sassy, oh yeah. Also that tire iron got used well.
I mean, I rarely write full reviews because...well, because. But this one deserved more than stars, just like A tremendous amount of normal did, and I’m not sure I did that one justice.

I am not sure why the author was incredibly sensitive in the author notes. If the author thinks this book was hardcore erotica then they have never been on Nifty, lol.
This is not as dramatic as the author made it out to be and I am not sure why any reader would have had issues? But I digress. Dexter has verbally tormented Alex for a year but it’s only because he’s been so attracted to him. Sure it’s a bit iffy the way Dexter treats Alex for about a chapter, but then he has a personality transplant and is the best boyfriend ever.

OK, I'm totally blown away and gobsmacked by this, what an amazing, touching, heart breaking tale of two young high school men and they journey through the shit in life and the joys of companionship. Alex and Dex had a very intense and tumultuous relationship, it started with bullying and vicious slurs, but then it changed to a kind of dominance situation that suited Alex just fine. Just a fantastic read, I'm off to read more from this author, amazing stuff.

I didn't go into this story expecting to love it, but I did. While it has some rough moments, there is a really lovely romantic story about two young men who truly care for each other and fall in love. Keep in mind that this is an erotica story. But, there's a sweet romance in there that's just really beautiful.

In general this book was nearly perfect. There was a 10-15% chunk of superfluous angst. It made me cry. The positioning of it left a bitter taste. In time I think that angst might grow on me. I understand why it was done but I still don’t like it. Still a good read. Still left my heart yearning.

Despite the warning in the summary, I actually found this to be remarkably wholesome and sweet and fluffy and full of surprisingly amazing displays of communication, like just— what is this, I showed up for some guilty pleasure kinky smut and got all that instead and I was shocked to be living for it
(The smut itself was alright. Like the actual “hardcore” and “bully” scenes were a little cringe, I skimmed most of that, and there’s actually a fairly minor amount of it for a book TITLED Bully, but once they start getting more ~intimate, it’s pretty sweet and the awkwardness is adorable)
But then we ruin it all by throwing in the most random and out of character and bullshittiest third act conflict, I was baffled and blindsided and heartily disappointed
