Yuyuko Takemiya (竹宮 ゆゆこ Takemiya Yuyuko) is a Japanese writer of light novels. Takemiya debuted in September 2004 with her light novel series Watashitachi no Tamura-kun (Our Tamura-kun) which first appeared in the autumn 2004 issue of Dengeki hp Special, a special edition version of Dengeki hp. That same month, Takemiya worked on the scenario for the bishōjo game Noel by FlyingShine (also known for creating Cross Channel).
Following the completion of Watashitachi no Tamura-kun, Takemiya began her best-known series, Toradora!, which she declared to be complete in April 2010 after ten volumes and three spin-off books. The first book of her next series, Golden Time, was Dengeki Bunko's 2000th published light novel. Takemiya launched the manga series Evergreen with artist Akira Kasukabe on July 19, 2011 in ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Daioh Genesis quarterly magazine.
Christmas Eve arrives and it’s time for plans to be set in motion, realizations to almost happen, emotions to get trampled, and repercussions to be felt.
I was not expecting the party to go the way it does, let’s put it that way. Taiga’s been projecting like mad lately (her rationale behind why Minorin has to have a crush on Ryuuji is... telling...) and she’s being slowly crushed under the weight of her own efforts.
The aftermath of her attempts to get Minorin to the party are especially heartbreaking. Taiga’s always been a lot, but the art during this part conveys the despair and hurt like nothing else. It’s overwrought in a teenager way, but it’s a showstopper of a moment.
Ryuuji mostly gets to be hurt (and hurt others, if unintentionally) this time, but he’s slowly putting two and two together and the lengths he goes to for Taiga are something else.
The real question mark now is Minorin - even with the outcome of a series like this never truly in doubt, I legitimately have no idea what’s going on behind her forced smiles and that makes her part in all this way more interesting than it otherwise might be.
I also can’t let this review end without praising the way this series figured out how to use Ami. She is the only person in the cast with ANY insight into what everybody else actually wants and it’s driving her crazy.
She’s become a version of Cassandra whose (accurate) proclamations are being ignored so she just throws up her hands and storms off constantly. It also functions as reflecting any exasperation on the part of the audience at times, so clever work there.
I don’t have any major complaints - I think the biggest thing working against this series right now are its slow release schedule and relatively low page count when it does come out. That said, ‘I don’t get enough story when I get new story’ is a pretty good problem to have with a series.
A very solid continuation - I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop for Ryuuji, but we’ll get there I’m sure.
We get my favorite moment from the anime and it hit great in the manga too. Things are coming to a head and Taiga, Minorin, and Ryuuji have some feelings to sort out.
It's been a while since I read volume 8, so I was a bit sketchy about where we were up to but it's all come screaming back... I forgot the Taiga and Ryuuji won't admit they like each other. And they still haven't... We'll just have to wait for the next one.
Excellent volume that serves as almost the climax to the series as the Christmas Eve Party reveals Taiga's real feelings for Ryuuji, just as he's about to make his move on Minori. Yuyuko Takemiya's romance hits a fever pitch as everything has built to this, while also making great use of the Christmas setting (apparently, it is the most romantic time in Japan). Zekkyo's art is equally excellent and not quite as cartoony this time, as the story starts to get more serious. Still one of the best romance manga's in recent years.
kusheida and ryuuji are getting closer and taiga has decided to not rely and be so close to ryuuji since it prevents kusheida and ryuuji from getting together.it is confirmed that kusheida has feelings for ryuuji, taiga is always pushing ryuuji to get every opportunity with kusheida. but ryuuji heart had started beating a lot when he was with taiga hinting that ryuuji likes taiga. ami is soo pissed off that he cant see taiga's feeling etc.

After many years of waiting, I was finally able to read this book physically. As always, Zekkyou's art is stunning and cute, also we are getting closer to the series' climax, which means that the drama has become more and more intense. There are fun little gags and it's interesting to compare how this series differs from the anime adaptation of the same novel (I haven't read the novels, so I can't compare them).
5/5 stars. YAAAY FINALLY PUBLISHED IN ENGLISH!!!! This volume followed the anime really closely, so it wasn't as "surprising" but still sweet and swoony.
