Pick up this sizzling start to the Many Lives Series, because you love a kickass heroine who'd do anything to protect her pack, and win back her sexy shifter mate.
This is Maya and Luke's story. A standalone paranormal romance with wolf shifters, fated mates, psychic heat, and a HEA.
Laxmi is a New York Times bestselling author of paranormal and contemporary romance. Her books have been featured in USA Today Happily Ever After and the Guardian, among others. PS: She insists that you call her Lax!
This is a short novella that can be used to introduce you to the world of the Many Lives series by this author. I was excited to read it as I have Untamed on my bookshelf ready to read and the book sounded appealing from the description.
I'm not one for giving out negative reviews on books as I think there is always something good about a book if one looks for it but even though this novella is only 46 pages long I found myself actually telling my spouse I wasn't sure I could finish it. The reason being that this novella was a lot of internal self talk - to the point I wanted to say "just get on with it". That was compounded by the author's or I should say Character's need to define words through out the book....like the actual definition of loneliness and chemistry. Followed by how that word then applies to the situation the character is in. I found it distracting to the story and it made me want to quit reading.
However, I did finish it and I will attempt to read Untamed as I already have it but if it is similar to this one in the overdone self talk I don't think I will finish it.
Another wonderful story by Laxmi Hariharan. I downloaded this story and two others from instafreebie. This story gives one a taste of what her werewolf stories are like. If you can read them in order. I didn't, but the narrative flows even better if you do.
I read this short story as part of the Name Your Demon box set.
Maya lives in a world where shifters exist and are not wanted! She lives on the outskirts of Bombay with her shifter family and is frustrated as she has not yet shifted even though Luke, the love of her life, is able to. Her mother reveals a huge secret to her and Maya heads off to Bombay to find herself, to find what she wants to do with her life and there she meets an interesting man and eventually his father that reveal to her what she really wanted to know. However, she decides her pack is her life, is where she should really be, not here in the city with humans who do things differently. I guess sometimes we need to lose what we had to truly know what we truly desire in life and this is exactly what happens to Maya.
An interesting read and I will definitely hunt out the rest of this series.
First of all a huge thanks to the author and her team for providing me with a copy of the book to read and review
Feral was a fantastic treat especially for being a fan of the Ruby Iyer series. The book no doubt is a read that is capable of being taken up as a standalone as , the major part of the book runs so strong and independently from the original series that you won’t have trouble comprehending as to what is going on in the chapter and its toward the end where you see the connection of the book to the original series. To enjoy the surprise and appreciate it, it’s better that one is acquainted with the original series of Ruby Iyer Diaries.
I would suggest to anybody who picks this book up to not miss the background that is being provided in the beginning of the chapter because that makes the story perfectly clear and pristine for you as skipping the background would only complicate the story for you.
In very few chapters, the author has managed to bring out the magic of a fully fledged novel with everything weaved together in a fast yet gradual and smooth progression. I had fallen for the author’s work from the very first book and it was fired more with the rest of the series including this one.
One of the best things about this book and the rest of the author’s work is definitely her language quality. Her language has been constantly lucid, pristine and silky which in turn makes the reading experience even more enjoyable. You don’t pay attention to anything else except for the story and it just grabs you in which in my opinion is one of the best trait an author can exhibit. True Power play of words.
Grab this book if you had been a fan of the Ruby Iyer series for obvious reasons and if you haven’t tried the author’s work before, let this be the incentive to try her works that would make you a fan of her work.
(I should definitely be getting paid for this review … I am not known for being nice to authors and this was a full on worship :P )
Feral is a novella that looks at Maya’s life. Set in the same world as that of Ruby Iyer, Maya’s story is set in the next generation timeline.
Maya has quite never felt ‘at home’ with her family. She always feels like an outsider with her people even though she has her mother and Luke to love her and care for her. After a heated conversation with her mother, Maya sets upon to discover her true identity where she meets Jai and is instantly attracted to this stranger. With Luke waiting for her back at home, will Maya find the answers that she is looking for? And the biggest question whether she will like what she finds!
The thing with novellas is that I always find them to be too short. But Laxmi Hariharan sure knows how to pack a punch within those short few pages. With her crisp writing style and quirky characters, she mesmerizes her readers and Feral is no exception. This story had a twist coming that I did not spot until just before the big revelation. The touch of paranormal adds to the story. The only drawback is that the readers will have to be familiar with the Ruby Iyer Universe to be able to understand and enjoy this story.
What a great short story. This standalone book was great! I loved meeting the characters and following Maya on her soul searching journey to find her human family and finding her way back to Luke. Her forgiveness to her pack hybrid family and Ma and returning home away from the humans. I enjoyed reading it from the first page until the last page. I was sad to see it was that short once starting it. I wanted to keep reading more! I can't wait to find out what the other books entail with their stories.
This read is so deep with emotions! Here we get to know origin of Maya and also her own story. Is everything that easy as it seems at first? What about emotions torward Luke? When you find out your world is made of lie - can you deal with it with calm head?
As in original verision of Feral we get full sack of emotions that will give each reader total roller-coaster in this story! Luke's POV's are like a balm for my heart - that gave so much more to this story! I loved it!
I just didn't get into this one. I've read Laxmi's material before but this story just didn't move for me. I like the premise and the storyline had interesting turns...but I felt like I was on life support getting me through this. Personally as an author she writes very well and paints a clear picture. The momentum just never picked up pace and I skimmed to get it over with.
I received this book free from eBook discovery. I thought this was pretty good. It was clean too. It was very sensual though (as opposed to sexual- very descriptive kisses and desires, but that was it). The langu.age was clean too. I would like to know what happens next
This is not my usual type of shifter story. This shifter story takes place in the future. Weather and tsunami's ravage the earth in 2014 and everyone is moving to cities like Bombay where cities prospered after the tsunami's. The Russian shifters move to Bombay and make a life for themselves outside the city of Bombay. The feral are humans that became shifters as a result of disease and genetic anomalies. The Russian shifters took over their area and now the feral bow to the Alpha. This story is about the daughter of the Alpha, Maya and Luke, her childhood friend. As a first book, this book does well in describing the world they live in and the society of humans and shifters. I feel the story is stiff at times, but that maybe hard because we are looking through the eyes of an eighteen year old. Eighteen year old emotions can be rampant at times and Laxmi Hariharan lets her heroine emotions run loose. The responsibility the author throws at this girl is unbelievable and for her to emotionally hold up seems impossible. Fortunately the author writes in her mate and the core pack support of her, otherwise this book would be unbelievable. The plot is self supporting and can be carried into the next books of this series. This book can standalone, and for the moment it is an HEA.
Loved this storyline. Being that I read the series in this universe out of order it makes me hunger to rush to the next book. Always wanting more information on these wonderful characters.
Maya a very strong willed young woman. Who faces her issues head on though she does not believe it herself. She seems to make the right calls. Watching her character grow and develop made for a great read.
Luke a very young and powerful shifter who could do great things in his lifetime. He has a strength of character that is rarely found. It serves him well in this book.
Together they could be a power couple in both the human and shifter worlds. Will they get that chance or will circumstances set them on separate paths. Read Feral it's bound to be a great read for you as it was for me.
Wow! "Feral" is the first book I've ever read by Ms. Hariharan, but it certainly won't be my last! A fantastic, gripping, emotional roller coaster ride in a Dystopian world with shifters that had a unique storyline, great attention to detail & well defined characters, that kept me glued to and on the edge of my seat turning pages, from the start to the end! ... These are my honest opinions without any outside influences, and I bought the boxed set with all 5 books so I highly recommend this to all fans of fiction, especially fantasy, sci-fi & PNR! I've already started the next story in the 'Many Lives' world!
A truly fascinating whirl wind of a world in which lies are revealed and secrets exposed. A well written story that has a unique quality that keeps you coming back for more. You don't who you can trust or if your enemy is your best friend. I fell in love with this series and I know if you pick up a copy you won't put it down until your finished. I read it 3 times already and have every intention of doing so for a ling ling time. I can't wait for the full story, that'll be Christmas morning for me because I'll have my series and a cup of coffee huddled down for my reading fest. A great work of art Laxmi. You have me hooked.
This is the first book I have read by the author Laxmi Hariharan. I do not want to leave any spoilers, as I recommend you find them yourselves. This book was full of believable characters, with love, heartbreak, self doubt, and looking inwards into your life. The author made you be able to Feel the emotions of the characters and what they was going through , you could imagine seeing through their eyes and walking in their shoes, which is the sign of a good book. I was transported into another world, and would definitely like to go back there. An impressive take in the shifter life
Getting this first look into the world after its "end" is amazing. Seeing Luke and Maya grow and change is wonderful. Maya finding out truths that never should have been hidden from her makes it so much easier to enjoy reading about her growing emotionally from a young girl and into a woman. Luke being a sweetheart and waiting on Maya and just being an all around wonderful make adds the perfect amount of sizzle to this story. I fully enjoyed following these two through their trials and different obsticales to their happily ever after.
At 18, Maya has still not shifted. Then she finds out the reason is her birth mother was human. This is all new to her as she thought her mother was the pack’s Alpha! To add more stress, she just recognized Luke as her mate. Before she’s ready to bond with him, she wants to find her birth parents. What I liked about this book is that it’s different as it takes place in the near future, after a world disaster takes place. The ending is not what you’d expect. Not all is settled as this is the first book in the series.
I have read and enjoyed quite a few books by Lexi Hariharan. I enjoy the wolf shifter genre and Feral did not disappoint. Maya is raised in a wolf shifter pack. She has turned 18 and still has not shifted. When she finds out why, her world is turned upside down. The only constant for her is Luke. If you enjoy wolf shifter stories, in my opinion, you will enjoy Feral.
Note: I received this book in exchange for signing up for the authors email list.
Feral is a novella about Maya a girl who knows that she is different from the other in her pack, because she has come of age without gaining the ability to shift into her wolf form. That's right, this is a werewolf story. I normally don't like reading urban fantasy, but this is also a post-apocalyptic book. And I enjoyed the mystery of the world building. It left me asking how did the world break, where did the shifters come from, and why are they hunted?
Maya confronts her mother about her past and is allowed to seek out her real family. The catch is that they are from a human town that hates and fears the shifters, and while on the outside it looks like a Utopia (because only the best and brightest are allowed in) it's a totalitarian society that has basically taken away choice from its inhabitants.
The author kept up a good pace with the narration. While it seems that this book was going to go the love triangle route that was an interesting twist to that troupe that I have to give her props for. I enjoyed my glimpse into the Many Lives world.
What do you do when you find out your whole upbringing was based on lies? That's the dilemma Maya is faced with when the truth of her adoption comes out. Being raised with Hybrids she always knew she was different. She sets out to find her "real family" and in doing so discovers herself and what the true meaning of family is. A fast paced read that leaves you wanting to know more.
Maya believes she is a wolf, as she runs through the trees she wonders why she hasn't shifted. The the Alpha, her mother, tells her she is human. This starts Maya on a journey of discovery, heart ache and finding where she belongs. A gripping story of love, and acceptance. A must read.👍
What is going to be the result. Do shifters and humans learn to get along.
I like the series but don't get the answer in this story but all the e!ements are here. The head of The guardians is the brother of the head of the shifter clan, Maya. Hopefully they will recognize there blood bond and make peace. O
Fantastic story. Characters are unforgettable. Not a single dull moment while reading. Laxmi is a wonderful author, I like her style. Don't know how it could be better! ❤
I love this continuation of the many lives series. Her world building is phenomenal and the characters are full and easy to love. In this book we follow Maya and Luke and we see just what it takes in this new world to a shifters an alpha
Not knowing who you are or where you come from is a journey of destiny that Mia cannot run from. What she finds is nothing to what she may be giving up. A great book.
Feral is the prequel to the series Many Lives. Laxmi Hariharan tells the story through the eyes of the main characters, Maya and Luke. This is much more the a love story...filled with suspense and action.
This is Maya's story. It is a good book for teenagers and above. Maya starts questioning why she has not shifted into a wolf. She goes hunting for the truth. Read it to find out what she has learned.
This was apparently a short story that had great potential. But there were large chunks of dialogue of the heroine self-reflecting and doing whatever she wants. I also felt like there was something missing from the story.
