This was a fairly good story. In my opinion, there was too much attention to the decorations of the households, and different parts of the story seemed hurried. Actually, I enjoyed reading the author's note at the end.
As a family genealogist, I have studied my lineage within the Civil War, and that includes family members that fought on opposite sides, ones who died while serving, and those who returned from war a different person. As a lover of historical-based romance, this new series will cover a touch of history and a sweet and clean romance.
The story will begin in Minnesota at the Ramsey home and will then move to Washington, DC. The timeframe will be the beginning of the Civil War and will have our heroine, Melody Ramsey, along with her governor father, visiting President Lincoln. The Ramsey’s are staunch supporters of Mr. Lincolns, and Melody will prove to be a patriot in this tale. From her visit to Washington, it will continue to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and then to Virginia for a wedding of a cousin. Virginia is a state divided, and the war is pressing on the area. Former military Captain Trumbull will be at the wedding and dances the night away with Melody, and this is the beginning of their relationship.
The story has plenty of angst, mystery, suspense, and historical bits of pieces of facts that the author used with artistic liberties with and created her characters and scenarios. It will come with two people with the same ideology, marrying and playing their parts while spying on the enemy to get valuable information back to Mr. Lincoln. I also enjoyed how the Underground Railroad plays a role in this tale.
The story will take place from April 1861 until November 1861 and will cover several areas of the United States, mentions of battles, the way some soldiers are much younger than what should be allowed. While scripture is quoted, I do not consider the story to be preachy. It has a nice blend of facts versus the fiction of the story at the end by the author.
NOTE: This is book one in a thirty-seven book series written by multiple authors. The books are published in chronological order, telling one story in each state or territory during the war. The stories reflect each year over the five years of the Civil War. It is a sweet and wholesome romance set against one of the bloodiest wars in the United States.

In this inspirational Civil War romance, Melody Ramsey, daughter of Minnesota’s governor, has a daring and adventurous life during the Civil War. She meets President Abraham Lincoln when news of the war breaks out. Her father is the first to offer troops to Lincoln in response to his proclamation to put down the Confederate rebellion.

Can true love be found between the daughter of a northern Yankee politician and a man raised with southern tradition tearing a nation apart?
I enjoyed reading this adventurous and daring romance. I was gifted the book, but the review is totally my opinion.
Melody's Father is the Governor of Minnesota. She goes with him to meet President Lincoln when he calls for troops. Melody wishes she could do more and has a dream of teaching and adventure but isn't sure how to achieve her dreams. When her cousin gets married, she travels with them to their farm cabin for the wedding. At the dance, she once again meets up with a handsome neighbour. Will he come courting? Will they find a way to help the Union war effort, together? This is a clean, sweet romance. I enjoyed it even though some things seemed a bit of a stretch. Like an entire classroom of children helping with the Underground Railroad, which I think was still illegal at that point... I did like that the author included a lot of era tidbits and explanations at the end of the book to share her research as well. So far, this series is really good. Looking forward to the rest of them!
Loved this book!! Charles and Melody had a very unique story! Charles' proposal to Melody left a lot to be desired, for sure! At least he admitted it, too!! From the beginning, you're drawn in to the story, and there are a few twists and turns you aren't fully expecting. Melody's plans for her future took the course she wanted, thanks to Charles, and then she finally gets her HEA, too, also thanks to Charles! Great read!!! The research Lisa put into this book was inspiring, and the history lover in me was intrigued!
I received a complimentary copy of this book, I was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
Minnesota Bride set in 1861 is an easy-to-read tale of adventure. Ms. Prysock skillfully melds romance, intrigue, and faith into one enjoyable read. The plot flows at a fitting pace, and the characters are engaging and believable. Real-life characters and events are blended effective into the fictional narrative showing evidence of extensive research. I enjoyed this read and recommend it especially for lovers of historical romance.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book with no obligation to post a positive review. All thoughts and comments are my own.
Very nicely written . The author has done some extensive research for this book and although her work is fiction it’s based upon real life. Helping us to understand what our country and families went through during that time. But also how even hundreds. Of years ago they like us relied upon their faith in God. There is special scripture at the beginning of each chapter which is nice. And I can recommend this book to my advanced reading preteen friends, no sexual references or language.
Cute book. In the beginning it was hard for me to get through because there were so many names and connections put in it. I just kept reading and realized it wasn’t super critical to remember all the names. I liked hearing about the Lincoln’s and the Underground Railroad. This book had some scripture passages at the beginning of most chapters, but it wasn’t so in your face that it is irritating and distracting to the story. All in all it was a quick, cute read.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book from front to back. I learned so much about the Civil War and particularly liked the historical note at the end. The characters worked very well together and showed aspects of what living was during the Civil War. I definitely will read more from this writer as she is one of my all time favorites. I did purchase this book through Kindle Unlimited.
Set in Minnesota and Viginia, Meolody Jane Ramsey is the daughter of the Governor of Minnesota. When she and her family head to Virginia to see her mother's family, little does she know that not only will she find the love of her life, but also that both of them would be caught up in the beginning of the Civil War.
Very well written and extremely well written, this novella was a quick but thoroughly enjoyable read.
And great story, with many love able characters. I absolutely adored Melody, she is such a strong and courageous woman. Spying, Underground Railroad, meeting President Lincoln and helping doctor the injured all helping to further the cause. This is a story I found myself so immersed in, a clean sweet romance with so much to love.
The author has penned a page turning story that is full of history so true to fact that you feel like you are a part of the events. This is Charles and Melody's story whose relationship begins at the start of the Civil War. There are many twists and turns in the story. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
This is a great novella. Ms. Prysock is such a good historian when it comes to her books. She writes like she actually lived during the time. This story about Melody, a governor's daughter, and her captain, is full of history. It's also an easy to read story. I think anyone who enjoys historical fiction will enjoy this book. I was given a free copy, but the review is my own.
Set in the very early part of the Civil War, this story gives insight into what one well-to-do family from the North went through to give aid in the war. It was a fascinating look into efforts to help free slaves. In the midst of that, there is a sweet love story that will delight the hearts of readers!
Melody Ramsey is a Governor's daughter and seeks some adventure and love in her life. After meeting Abraham Lincoln she goes a trip to visit family she meets and spends time with her families neighbor Captain Charles Trumbull. Clean, historical romance set around the beginning of the Civil War.
From Lincoln's White House to Jeff Davis' House of the Conferderacy, this period books brings Alice and Appalachian born romance. Site include towns and hamlets which are now part of West Virginia, but the best laryngitis humbling romance is the espionage.
I loved reading this story of Melody and Charles. I loved how excited Melody was to meet President Lincoln and help the war cause. I also liked that she helped with the Underground Railroad, even though it was a dangerous thing to do.
Truly loved this story! I was so captivated, I read it one sitting. Loveable characters, and so well written I could visualize it all. Highly recommend!
