The Pinkerton Matchmaker #41

An Agent for Frances

Rate this book
Pinkerton Agent Vincent Brooks wants only one thing – to stop the southern rebels from uprising and creating another war. His assignment is to be the temporary sheriff of Bonham, Texas, which seems easy enough… until he runs across a woman he’d met eight months earlier, Francis Carlton, sneaking around in the dark, spying on the bank. Not only is the confounded woman following him around and prying into his Pinkerton business, but she has a strange way of filling his mind with desirous thoughts that shouldn’t be there. He can’t be distracted, and yet she seems to accomplish being his greatest diversion quite well.

Frances Carlton is determined to show Agent Brooks that she would make an excellent Pinkerton agent. Eventually, she’d make him a wonderful wife, too. However, the stubborn man refuses her help, and he reminds her of that every time she gets in his way. It’s difficult to focus on catching the outlaws when Vincent is around since he seeks out her kisses almost on a daily basis. Now it is up to her to change his mind – and his heart.

As always with a Pinkerton book as well as one from Higgins, this book was full of suspense, gunslinging and romance. Frances is a character and very strong willed. Vincent is very independent, but Frances is able to break through his defenses. This was a fun quick read that will keep you on your toes. I loved how it tied into Claudia's story as well so I got to remember some of those fun moments too.

Pinkerton Matchmaker with a twist!

Frances knows exactly who she wants and is determined to win his heart...but Vincent's heart is still healing from the loss of his wife. Fortunately Frances is able to help him finally find the closure he needs to be able to move on with his life and allow himself to love again.
It's great that having met Frances and Vincent in a previous book we are able to see their romance flourish as they get to know each other better.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Great take on the Pinkerton partner series. However, too much and too detailed kissing for my tastes.
The initial kiss seemed more stalkerish than romantic.

An Agent For Frances is one of the best Pinkerton Agent stories I have read this far. Vincent thought he did not need any help in this case until he met Frances, the towns spitfire that shows up every time he needs a quick plan. The emotions and suspense in this story are set on tilt all the way through the story. And when you think it is going to slow down, there is another threat on their lives. But if you can hold your breath long enough to get to the end you will think it is over, but rule number one is never let your guard down when you are a Pinkerton Agent.

First of all, I found it super frustrating that the author included a historical figure in her book and then proceeded to change that person's story completely! The dates didn't work for that person or how the story went. If you're going to totally change history, isn't it better to just invent your own person and say they are famous. Ugh.

Frances met Vincent in #27. She quit being Claudia's maid to go care for her ailing parents back home. It just so happens that Vincent is in town acting as the Sheriff. She's liked him ever since he helped her in the other book but he's determined he doesn't need help and she's determined to prove him wrong. They are trying to stop a group of Southerners from uprising and re-starting the Civil War.
I was nervous going into this book. When I originally read the description, I thought it sounded really good, especially since I like the Civil War era. But then I read the author's first 2 books in this series and really didn't care for them at all. The other 2 stories, without being super bad, didn't have the same highest moral standards as the other books in this series. But I still read this book and was very pleasantly surprised. Thankfully, the author made Vincent, a Chaplain's son, be better behaved. I enjoyed the mystery and how Frances worked to show Vincent she would be a good agent.
I do find it a bit frustrating that the author doesn't stick to the series code of Pinkertons marrying at the beginning, but it was manageable in this story. A clean, sweet romance.

What's a girl to do when she really wants to prove she can be a Pinkerton detective? Try to help nab the criminals and that is just what Frances Carlton is determined to do and show Pinkerton Agent Vince Brooks she would a great agent! Vince is use to being focused and is determined to stop the Southern rebels who only want to bring another war about it seems.
Handsome, determined and stubborn, Vince does not want her help but she eventually gets under his armor. She has been attracted to him since the first time she saw him and knows she will make him a good wife.
A fast paced story with a few twist and turns and an attraction that cannot be denied. Love this series and Marie Higgins always brings these characters to life. Makes me wish I could go back in time, but then again, it takes these special men and women to be true Pinkertons!!

Another brilliant book in this amazing series.

Frances and Vince were great characters. I loved the feisty, sassy Frances giving Vince a run for his money. He really didn’t stand a chance against her. And I mayst admit I really liked the girl getting her man instead of it always the other way around. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about this strong willed woman, a woman who Vince soon learns he can’t do without. And he needs her for than just his job, he needs her to help heal his heart from the loss of his past.

I received this as an arc and I am giving my honest review voluntarily

An Agent for Frances is another book in the Pinkerton Matchmaker series but it is really different from the others I have read. This book has a very unique story and a compelling connection between Vincent and Frances - who met in a previous book. This short, interesting story kept my interest from the first chapter. This is another win for Mrs. Higgins and for readers who love fun, clean historical romances.

An Agent for Frances is a thrilling, page turning story with a dash of romance. Frances fell in love with Vincent when she met him before and decided he was the man for her. Vincent, an independent man who is a Pinkerton agent posing as a temporary sheriff, just isn’t interested. As the story twists and turns they get into some sticky situations. This is another interesting read from Marie Higgins!

Wonderful addition to the Pinkerton Matchmaker series. This book has it all, romance, explosions, gunfights, interrupted kisses, kidnapping, secrets, passionate kisses, twists and turns. Throw in laughter, tears, anger, surprise and embarrassment, and you have a story that will keep you entertained from start to finish.

Marie Higgins always gives us interesting characters and story lines. This one is no exception. Outlaws hiding among Southern sympathizers, a young lady trying to help her brother, a Pinkerton agent trying to catch a well-known outlaw and the sympathizers. I love that the women in these stories are strong and independent. I enjoyed this book.

Frances had met Vincent before and fallen in love with him. Now she’s back home where he’s the sheriff but also an Pinkerton agent. He can’t get her to leave his case and him alone. Can she convince him that she’s the perfect partner for him, in love and work?
Entertaining story full of action and love.

This was such a good book I couldn’t put it down. The characters were fun and I loved Frances. The romance was my favorite part, I did love the bad guy action too. This book has so much to like, I didn’t want it to end!
Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.

Frances and Vince

Vince must stop a rebel uprising. Frances knows Vince and wants to help. He doesn't need distractions and Frances is a distraction. Frances is going to help whether he wants her to or not. Lots of action and twists and turns in the plot. Exciting love story.

I didn't think it could be different from the other Pinkerton agent books but it proved me very wrong. I really like this one. I don't know how Ms. Higgins thinks up these different plots. Congrats! I received an ARC. This is my honest, voluntary opinion.

Good read

I love this series! Each story is different and the personality of the characters varies greatly except for the qualities of honor and integrity. Enjoy 💜
