Love, love, love romance, the paranormal, hunky Highlanders with their delicious brogue and hot kilts, so Terry Spear writes about those hunky Highlanders both in medieval times and as wolves in contemporary times. Jaguar shifters too! And young adult urban fantasy. And romantic suspense.
She grew up reading mystery, adventure, mythologies from around the world, ghost stories, the paranormal, fell in love with Dracula and Wolfman, and felt they needed loving too. Everyone should have someone to love. Which means her stories always have a HEA.
USA Today Bestseller residing in Central Texas from Sacramento, California who creates award-winning teddy bears too!
The first book in the white wolf paranormal romance series by Terry Spear, Legend of the White Wolf starts off with an intriguing prologue as many of this author’s works do. While the book starts with private eye partners Owen Nottingham and David Davis bear hunting with a guide in northern Maine, it quickly jumps to the two main characters of this novel.
Faith O’Malley is a forensic scientist who works with the Portland, Oregon police. Her boyfriend, Hilson Snowden stole her father’s research paper and she believes he is in or near Millinocket, Maine. She also thinks she’s being followed. Meanwhile, Cameron McPherson has come to Millinocket after his private investigator partners Owen and Davis failed to return to Seattle on time. The two end up joining forces as they learn of the paranormal world and their enemies.
Terry Spear has a way of drawing readers into her novels quickly as she weaves another volume involving friends, romance, suspense, action, and multiple types of danger. Relationships drive the narrative and the dynamics among the characters was one of the most compelling aspects of the story. The world-building was good and easily transported me to Maine. It was great to see the higher level of suspense and action to this story compared to book two in the series.
Overall, the plot was engrossing, clever, and full of romance and suspense. The characters are well-developed and there is good chemistry between Cameron and Faith. The storyline runs smoothly and the plot is engrossing. If you enjoy contemporary paranormal romantic suspense novels, then this author may be one you will enjoy as much as I do. I am looking forward to reading more of her books.
I purchased a copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. --------------------------------------- My 4.25 rounded to 4 stars review is coming soon.
Urban fantasy is my favorite type of book. I am a Fur, Fae, Fang girl 100% (in that order) The early authors in this venue were careful to make Romance a part but not a story. As more and more writers jump on the wagon they have made sex, not even romance the focal part of the book and we forget that it is a book about intrigue and fiction. Terry Spears has given us back the magic that made urban fantasy my favorite. Yes there is sex but the story supports the sex instead of the sex being the story. I grew up with this. I love this. Terry Spears writes a tale that has good sex in it but the story is well written along with the sex. I think that is why I am a fan. This is a good book along with the others in this line I would recommend it to any Urban Fantasy fan who was slightly nauseous with Anita Blake.
I liked that we are getting another type of werewolf. I hope there's going to be another book down the track that tells me what happened to the whole group. As newly turned, it would be interesting to see whether they adhere to all the old traditions.
Terry Spear has definitely come into her own as an author. I have very thoroughly enjoyed her last two books in her werewolf series, both of which show a lot of growth from her first book. After reading this latest edition, Ms. Spear is now on my autobuy list.
What I like best about this story is that the hero and heroine are not wolves. At least in the beginning. They meet while doing their own investigations for different reasons in the same place. And from that comes a great storyline not only from their perspective but also from the wolves in the area.
Cameron is on a mission to find his two missing partners in their P.I. firm who disappeared while on a hunt in the wilds. Faith is after the man who stole her father’s current project and her self-respect, leaving her without a word after pursuing a relationship with her for months. Now she knows what he was truly after. After bizarre and dangerous circumstances, along with a few sensual ones, Cameron and Faith join forces to get to their final destination and hopefully some answers.
However, once there only more unusual and weird things continue to happen, but they press onward to find what they’re seeking. In the midst of it all, they are attacked by a white wolf, Cameron jumping between Faith and the animal, suffering a bite in the process. And things then become more fantastical. Cameron dreams of running wild through the mountainous snow, a sense of freedom coursing through him. Only thing he comes to realize later is it’s not a dream. He’s become one of the magical creatures he’s recently learned about in the area.
Not sure what the future holds - a white wolf in Seattle? - Cameron continues his mission, and that future changes once again when Faith is accidentally bitten. They’re led further into the world of wolves who have done an amazing job of fitting in with normal people and are doing everything to protect that front. Cameron and Faith can rely on no one but themselves, and as their feelings for each other escalate, so does their drive and power to do what needs to be done.
I really like Cameron and Faith. Cameron is alpha to begin with, so as a wolf he’s awesome and will need a mate strong enough to be his equal, and Faith is that woman. She’s independent, fast on her feet, knows her own mind, and definitely takes no guff from anyone, even the local alpha wolf who wants her for his own. Ms. Spear has created an intricate and interesting world with her werewolves and has come a long way since her first book. Her characters, good and bad, are a delight to read.
She’s now one of the best, as far as I’m concerned, when it comes to shifter stories. I know I will get a top-notch read every time.
Terry Spear’s Heart of the Wolf series has evolved into such a large grouping of sub-series that I’ve made the choice to go back and re-read the earlier stories in order to get caught up on characters and events in the newer releases that are connected in some way. Legend of the White Wolf is a perfect example. This 2010 release introduced us to four men, friends and business partners who would eventually make up a newly formed, newly turned wolf pack. Four ordinary men who through events beyond their control will be, at times, brutally introduced to the world of shifters – and their lives will never be the same again. Legend of the White Wolf is Cameron’s story. Recently we had a Christmas themed story, Dreaming of a White Wolf Christmas which is Owen’s story. The upcoming Flight of the White Wolf is Gavin’s story. And I’m certain that David’s story will appear soon as well. So, yes, it’s time to go back to the beginning with Cameron and Faith’s introduction to each other – and the world of wolf shifters.
Faith was on a mission to track down the no good, lying thief who used her romantically to get close enough to her father’s research to steal not only a flash drive’s worth of research but the entire hard drive as well. He will pay, and she’s tracked him down to this small town bump on the map, now she just has to get out into the wilderness and steal it all back. Right. No problems there.
It had to have been fated, or the gossipy desk clerk’s ineptitude that brought Faith and Cameron face to face. No matter how they met, the attraction was strong from the start. Yet both were on their own missions so not too much came of their meetings except curiosity and wishful thinking – for now. It won’t take long before they’ll discover that they both are after the same type of information. Cameron is searching for two of his business partners who have disappeared while on a bear hunt. All roads lead to the same trail guide business who happens to use arctic wolves as sled dogs. Hmmm.
As a combination of Romantic Suspense, Shifter Romance, Paranormal and just a plain good story, Legend of the White Wolf delivers an intense story, characters to either love or loathe, and a group of secondary characters you’ll want to know more about. The balance of sexy sizzling times with an in depth story line works so well. I was just as captivated with this re-read as the first time I picked up this story years ago. I know I’m addicted to an author’s worlds when I’ll willingly spend the time to re-read their earlier stories… and Terry Spear is always an author that I enjoy. If you enjoy Paranormal, Shifter or Romantic Suspense then you’d enjoy this story and the series. I’d definitely recommend it, and I’ve no doubt that I’ll end up re-reading it again.
One of the first romance books I bought from my excursion to The Ripped Bodice. I like the idea of paranormal romance; it's right up my alley.
But this wasn't very good. The characters were wooden. The plot dragged. Between every actual action, the character had to stop and internalize for like three paragraphs. The romantic tension was laughable; The driving plot wasn't that interesting or well plotted out and did not really have a great climax. I didn't like the shifts in POV to different minor characters. The wrap up was too neat. The sex scenes were meh. I got real tired of hearing how men "admired" Faith for this and that; her talents weren't that extraordinary. It sounded a lot like an overindulgence of appreciation for the female protagonist.
White Wolf Shifters with a Red mixed in. Private eyes and a forensic specialist explore a community shrouded with evil. Disappearances and a search for a stolen disc lead to danger and love. This read okay as a stand alone but the others in this series might prove enjoyable too. "A copy of this book was provided by Sourcebooks Casablanca via Netgalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion."
Legend of the White Wolf is my first Terry Spear book and while I enjoyed parts of it, it wasn’t really for me.
Forensic scientist Faith O’Malley is trying to track down her former lover who stole her dad’s research. During her search she meets PI Cameron MacPherson, who’s looking for his two missing colleagues. They run into a couple different threats and also decide to explore the chemistry running wild between them.
I appreciate that this book offers a unique take on shifter romance and it’s definitely sensual. But oftentimes the characters’s emotional responses seem oddly subdued or missing and the dialogue sometimes feels stilted. Finally, the end isn’t as romantic as I would have liked.
Thanks to Netgalley for my complimentary ARC. All opinions provided are my own.
I didnt care for the storytelling in this book. I prefer if authors give the reader a little credit and allow them to come to their own conclusions rather than spell everything out. also the main character, faith, although constantly described as strong by the men in the story, was too weak for me. I prefer my heroines to be able to defend themselves. Faith has a gun at one point but is afraid to use it, rather she resorts to pepper spray and wielding a frying pan.
Paranormal romance is my favorite genre and I'm always on the lookout for new authors and series to read. Well, I absolutely loved this book!I can't wait to read the rest of this series. What a well written, action packed, sexy book. If you love werewolf stories then this series is for you! Well done Ms. Spear!
This is a reissue of a previously published book - but I am happy it is being rereleased as it was one of Ms. Spear's titles that I hadn't read though the characters have appeared in other books. I enjoyed finally reading this backstory. I enjoy this series quite a bit and this one added to the pleasure
Ugh, I should have checked. This is not a new story, but a re-release of 2010. Unfortunately, I read several of the Heart of the Wolf series, and I still don't know if I like or dislike the series. Some parts are not bad, even nice. But sometimes the story just kind of drags on. In the later parts of the series, Terry gets better. And also her other series (Heart of the Jaguar and SEAL Wolf) are very good. So, maybe the series just got off at a slow start. In all, Legend of the White Wolf is an intriguing story about Faith O'Malley, who is looking for her father's research (stolen by her ex-boyfriend) and Cameron MacPherson, a private eye, trying to locate his partners. They meet, and appear to head for the same isolated location. Both Faith and Cameron are suspicious of each other, but they also feel some kind of attraction. When they stumble upon a murder, they need to rely on each other, to find the murderer. And solve the mystery of Cameron's missing partners. A lot of twists and turns, subplots, side characters and actions. It keeps your head spinning. Three out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
There's plenty of intrigue in "Legend of the White Wolf!" Cameron is mistakenly turned as a result of a murderous attempt after he prevents Faith from being unwillingly turned and force-mated... Whew! And all of this is because Stacey is trying to track her father's stolen research, and Cameron is searching for two missing business partners. These mysteries converge well (if improbably) and introduce a well-imagined new world to the pair. Plenty of peril, interesting characters, and spicy scenes add up to an engaging read!
A surprise novella is included that introduces Andrew and Stacey, lupus garous and LEOs after the same criminal pair, and their meet-cute. Brief cameos are made by the newly turned private investigators from the main story in this quick instalove romance.
I enjoyed this book but overall it wasn’t for me... This is a reprint of a previously published book and the overall plot seemed a bit weak. There isn’t much rhyme or reason for the choices the shifters make and it doesn’t make sense that they were attacking and turning so many people.
The romance was a bit too fast for me. Also it was primarily focused on the romance instead of a solid plot it all felt rushed so in my aspects the book fell short.
Overall it has a steady pace If you like a shifter series heavy on the romance and light on the storyline you might enjoy it. I like more solid world building and deeper character development.
I received this book from NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for an honest review.
3.5 Hearts If I am not mistaken this is a re-release from 2010. Terry Spear has written a LOT of wolf shifter books since then. But I will say I enjoyed this because it was so long ago it had a bit of a change in writing while all of her current writings have the same feel.
I enjoyed the different take on the wolf-shifter that this book has and Cameron and Faith are a great couple.
I really liked the throw back to Spear’s earlier writings.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review
LEGEND OF THE WHTIE WOLF by Terry Spear, Heart Of The Wolf series, book 3 including bonus novella: White Wolf To The Rescue
Spear’s LEGEND OF THE WHITE WOLF is an action-packed tale full of with dangerous werewolf hunters, wolf rivalry, a P.I. searching for two missing friends, and a sexy human female caught in the middle.
Bonus novella WHITE WOLF TO THE RESCUE is another exciting wolf tale about wolf shifters on the hunt for a wanted fugitive but find the sizzling chemistry between them.
mayhem... as a PI goes to the mountains to find his PI partners (who have been bitten and are now fledgling werewolves) and she goes to find her father's research (he saw a man change to wolf, and they sent a 'spy' to get his research to protect themselves)... and she gets turned... and claimed... and then claimed by the PI ... and there are some humans out to get the weres.... convoluted, but works out in the end.

Legend of the White Wolf is a love story with the big bad and a forensic scientist. This is the fourth installment in the series, but it also reads as a standalone. There was not anything that popped out to make this higher than a three-star read, but that does not mean that this book isn't a good read. If you like the shifter, steamy scenes, and all the rest, then this is a book for you.
I liked these two stories as they are entertaining and engrossing. I think they are a good addition to this series and gave a lot of backstory. It was a fun read, recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
Action packed, sexy, fun and highly entertaining adventure filled with dangerous and exciting charters, witty banter, heart racing twists and undeniable passion. Was a great read from beginning to end.
I enjoyed this story very much and will read it again. I'm going to see if she wrote books on each of the other guys. I hope so! Books are one of my saving graces with this virus C-19 lockdown. Is reading helping any of y'all pass the time?
The fourth book in the Heart of the Wolf, Legend of the White Wolf was an enjoyable read. Twists, Danger and mystery, I liked the characters and the engaging storyline, and we be reading more.
DNF at page 75-77. I'm not feeling this couple. I'm not vibing with the lose story and I'm not even enjoying the "insta love". Maybe it's because this is introducing a new pack? Idk. I give up.
