Steal a painting, kill the artist, sell for millions... Ocean's Eleven meets Magnum P.I. in this wild murder mystery!
When plucky Troy Clint Bodean returns home from his day job scooting tourists around on the Savannah River, he finds his roommate, Tayler Evan, hanging from the rafters. Oops! But Tayler, hot new artist student at the Savannah College of Art and Design, has everything going for him. He's in all the up-and-coming artist buzz blogs and his painting is featured in all the "you need to buy this" art journals.
And then his painting he called Savannah Smiling disappears, stolen from its home at the Jepson Museum. Someone is looking to push the value of the painting into the stratosphere by having its artist turn up... dead. Suspects (zany in true Troy fashion) begin popping up all over and before long, the pieces start to click together for Troy.
Whodunit? That's for Troy... and you... to find out.
Another in David Berens' entertaining Troy Bodean series. This one involves a stolen painting and a murder. Artist Tavers has been found hanging in his apartment that he shares with Troy. At first the police think it is suicide but Troy doubts that. Tavers, a very promising art student at the Savannah School of Arts and Design, seemed happy with a great career ahead of him. His most recent work Savannah Smiling has attracted a great of attention. It is a painting of a fellow student Savannah. Estimates of its value have risen but soar when the artist is found dead. The novel is populated with a host of offbeat characters. Troy has a part-time job at the Jepson Museum where the painting was hanging before the theft. It was replaced briefly with a top quality print of the painting until Troy discovers the deception.
This is an interesting whodunit with many possible suspects. Enjoy the search for the killer.
When Troy’s stories start out I am not sure I am going to like them but then I get hooked and I keep reading. I liked this one because it wasn’t so crazy and it was a mystery. Maybe next book he will find some people his age.
I like how Troy travels around the southeast, spends a little time, makes a little money, solves a crime and moves on! Fun easy reads! Keep ‘em coming Mr Berens!
Another exciting adventure for Troy. Action and suspense aplenty with plenty of plot twists to keep you guessing right to the end. Throw in a bit of humour and it makes for a wonderful read. Very enjoyable.
Interesting murder mystery that kept you guessing. Lots of twists and turns with action and suspense. The different characters were well thought out and of course Troy Bodean wasn’t sure about getting involved in this suicide versus murder. Enjoyable read that I definitely recommend.
Dark Wave (A Troy Bodean Tropical Thriller Book 4) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
Troy Bodean's in trouble again - this time it's the unexpected 'suicide' of his artist room-mate, that drags him under the watchful eye and the long arm of the law!Tayler Evan was a rising star whose paintings were becoming more and more valuable as time passed, but now as irreplaceable masterpieces by a dead genius, their value has increased stratospherically. As we all know, Troy's completely innocent of his friend's murder - as it's determined to be on closer examination - so who is the killer? Dark Wave is David F Berens' 4th book in the Troy Bodean Tropical Thriller series that just keeps getting better and better. Don't let the chance to read this great story wash away before you grab your copy - it's a 5-star winner that will reel you in straight away!
I have enjoyed each of the Troy Bodean stories up to this point. In Dark Wave, David Berens has attempted to create as he said a whodunit murder mystery. In my opinion he was successful in keeping the culprit hidden until the final moments of the story. Yep this Troy Bodean story wasn’t the norm, but sometimes change can be refreshing.
This one was a little different than the others ,I had no idea who the bad guy was and there was a nice twist at the end after it was revealed who the bad guy actually was. I can't say anymore than that without giving away the ending and I hate it when that happens in a review ruins the whole book. The only problems I had with the book were a few misspellings near the end, not a big deal but enough to not give it five stars. This book is fine as a stand alone novel but things that have happened in the past are mentioned, but are not confusing if you hadn't read the others.
This is another great thriller as Troy Bodean returns home after his job having taken tourists around on the Savannah River. When he opens his apartment door he finds his young roommate Tayler, an art student, hanging from the rafters. The young artist had some of his excellent work featured in art magazines and websites. Why would he fall victim to such a devastating end of his life? Troy will find out and his efforts will thrill you as the hunt for the killer begins. Well written and highly recommend.
Read the earlier 2 books in this series and they were ok. This book I read a little past the crude references to Cass Elliot and decided I wasn't interested enough to go on. Pretty low to make a joke at a dead woman's expense. She was a much better singer than this author is a writer.
I have confess, after the first book, which I got on Bookbub, I've been binge reading after happily finding out what kind of hijinks Troy will become enmeshed in next. But I am going to have to take a break and go back to Earth. If you enjoy humor with your mystery/ thrillers, this is the series to read!
I could not stop until I found out who was the killer. There were so many twists and turns. Just enough clues to make some guesses and it was of course the last one you would suspect. Great story. Interesting characters. Loved it. Can't wait for the next Troy Bodean novel.
It was a fun quick read. I like Berens character Troy Bodean and will definitely read the next book in the series. I would like to see more of Troy and his brother working together. I like to see a characters past come out throughout the story. The first couple of chapters were spent getting to know each character. After that, the read gets fun.
I’ve read the first three in the series, enjoyed them all, but really enjoyed the murder mystery concept in this book. It was enjoyable to work through the characters trying to identify the villain.
The diction was definitly elementry school, The story was midling, charicterzation, intrigue and intensity, should all had more thought along with editing..
