Ashaf and Guideau find themselves in a whole new world, literally, after taking a trip to The Fall. Now complete outsiders, they must make contact with envoys so they can make the most of this trip. Unfortunately for them, they find themselves sticking out like a sore thumb and unwilling participants in one of their envoy’s secret plots.

This is the first time that I’ve been disappointed by a volume and I’m feeling a little iffy about that. I was pretty excited about Ashaf and Guideau’s adventures to an entirely different world from theirs only to feel like the whole volume was dragging along. It kind of felt like I was reading the opening volume for a new series rather than an ongoing one since there was a lot of world building and exposition to set up the new location.

That said, I do appreciate the effort put into worldbuilding and the way it was done. I like that it was an ongoing explanation to Guideau since they aren’t familiar with it. However, I do wish that the plot got rolling sooner than it did because it really dragged along. I have a feeling that I’d like this volume much better if I read it and the following volume back-to-back, but I’ll have to wait until I get the seventh volume to confirm this.

All in all, it’s not a bad volume. It just felt like it took a step or two back due to how slow it was with not much going on given how far into the series we are.

This is the weakest volume for me in terms of entertainment. Of course, this is purely my opinion as I can imagine that others would be enthralled with what this volume introduced, but for some reason it was just "okay" instead of "amazing". I can't properly articulate what I didn't like, but if I had to guess it's probably that I'm not interested in the vampire culture and etiquette.

Don't get me wrong, this is phenomenal worldbuilding and Satake clearly thought this out, but it didn't interest me. Again, I don't know why and feel free to take my review with a grain of salt because I can totally understand why others would enjoy this volume. Part of the problem could also be that I felt there was way too much exposition and dialogue. Yes, Satake had to explain the vampire world, its rules, its culture, etc., but since I wasn't invested in it to begin with these scenes felt like they dragged.

That being said, the artwork was incredible (LOVED Level 4's fashion) and the fights were intense and exciting as usual. This volume wasn't my favorite and that's on me, but this series is still really solid.

This story follows two main characters: Ashaf is a soft spoken male mage and Guideau a feral female beast. They've joined forces to hunt down the witch who placed a curse on Guideau, but first they have to track the witch down.

I loved this volume! Ashaf and Guideau have been amazing since volume 1. They continue to be a great duo and badasses in their own rights. This volume introduces us to the world of vampires. The author is able to do a crazy amount of world and character building in this one volume! The vampires maintain their society and limit chaos through specific customs/ "rules of engagement". We get thrown deep into preexisting drama with the vampires. I was able to follow those rules and expectations throughout the manga and I wasn't confused for a moment. I also cared about the vampires and am already in love with the vampire queen (who I have yet to meet). I can't wait to get into the next volume. The only sad part is that it's on a hiatus after volume 10 😭 I'm hoping for the magaka to have a speedy recovery in general but also because I'm selfish and want I more of the story 😂

Snapshot review: i’m really not caring for this vampire arc, it was intriguing at first but i’m so over this jackass of a male character. i DO like that ashaf points out that while vampy and guideau are similar in how they look at the world, they are very much different in their actions and how it was going to bite (ha) homeboy in the ass (and new girl points out that it has)

we have two side stories with it seems like angela’s early days and possibly guideau’s? and i like the further explanation of strays/zombies with our other two order members. fun!

In pursuit of the witch that cursed Guideau, Ashaf and Guideau journey to an underworld ruled by vampires as they get a lead on the witch.

I was not fully impressed with this volume but I still enjoyed it. It added something new to the story and actually made Guideau vulnerable. We saw a little bit of that in Volume 5, but this is something else.

Outline of the story: In a modern Europe-looks-alike fantasy world, there are magic-users and the unearthly powerful beings known as the 'witches'. The witches are seemingly all evil and love to curse people and cause mayhem, so the witches are widely feared and hated by the general public and are hunted by the Church and an unknown organization of magic users.

There are an unlikely pair sent by the Organization to hunt down the witches: Guideau, a teenage girl (?) with eyes of a beast, a matchless ill temper and seemingly unstoppable power, and Ashaf, a level-headed magician who carries a mysterious coffin everywhere he goes?

More to come.

This was one of my favorite volumes. Initially I was skeptical about the whole other worlds/vampire world thing, that it was a “jump the shark” kinda deal, but I actually really like the thought that went into the world building and such.

It was also cool to see Guideau finally outmatched. She (he? they?) nearly lost to the attacking vampires and those are weaker, female ones. It was not only refreshing, it was the first time in the series that I felt like both G & Ashaf are in potential danger. Especially when he mentioned he has to conserve his magic and can’t offer too much support. The main reason I can’t go full 5 stars is the one weak point of the series is that it’s overall world building is a little clunky.

Like he says that about his magic— does that mean that, bc he is in a “magicless” world, he can’t restore his magic once he’s used it? Or…? I kinda wish that had been clarified a little more.

Anyway, I’m definitely curious to see how this arc proceeds.

[rating = A-]

Though I usually just read BL, this is one of my favorite series (other than Moriarty The Patriot and The Girl from the Other Side). The art style is different than the mainstream mangas and has a darker tone to the story. Here we find our two protagonists in a world below theirs. This one is inhabited by vampires! Though I always think the story could be longer (at least give us some more before we starve), it keeps the action going and slowly moves the plot forward, introducing new characters into the field as well as filling out older characters. I can't wait for Vol. 7 October!

Riusciranno qui a trovare nuove informazioni su Angela?

Phenomenal art and world building, as usual. This volume stopped short abruptly and had an unrelated fantasy bonus story that is decent enough, but breaks the tone of the book. I think that awkward juxtaposition affects the overall take. Ashaf and Guideau's uncertain footing in the vampire world would have benefited from an additional chapter here in place of the bonus story.

The addition of new characters in this one was nice, and I actually really like how up until this point the story has been focused on plot and moving the story along. The potential romance or hints at it are nice as well, and there is ample opportunity for more character development even with the ones that were just recently introduced!

I enjoyed the continuous world building in this volume and the previous. I did need to reread this volume because I think I read it a little too fast the first time. That being said, I feel like the brief combat we see was MUCH easier to follow than previous interactions (funny given the technicalities of the fights).

Might I just say, I LOVE the art style of this manga. I hope the anime will do it justice. I hope the manga artist/author will create more work in the future too.

As far as characters 😏 I don't know~ Dunward kinda got me feeling some type of way. And Oscar? Are they trans? If so, that is dope and I love them! I love them either way, honestly<3

This one was very hit or miss, especially with the art. Some pages were insanely detailed, and others were barely forms at all.
The story is still interesting, and there's only a few books left in the series, so I'm trying to stick with it.

Vampires?? I am kind of over vampires but the way this series is doing them doesn’t ruffle my feathers too much. This had some of the most whimsical side stories so far as well.

why even make an arc where female vampires are inherently weaker and subservient to male ones

My review of Vol. 1 gives an overall insight into my feelings on this series.

The first volume in the Orlencia Sett arc: Vampires. It's fk-mothering vampires. This arc started strong with this volume! Loved the world-building of dueling vampire clans - and once again the art just makes the story better!

Actually 2.75 ⭐️
The vampire world was cool i guess but couldn’t distract from how this volume was slow as hell that would’ve been forgiven. What I can’t forgive is the weird ass hell incel misogyny that jumped out of nowhere “men are stronger than women, women need a strong man to lead them” was fvcking disgusting. And I don’t trust the manga to make it seem that was just a flaw of Dunward considering NOBODY challenged him on this or told him he was being sexist. This didn’t seem like a bad character having bigoted beliefs this felt like the AUTHOR has gross thoughts about women. Also that line about “it’s bad when women dress like men” wtf is this shit. And the worst it that it came out if NOWHERE up to this point there has been no gender politics or even acknowledgment of gender differences at all so wtf. Damn it TWATB i trusted you, you were doing so well not falling into the usual gross manga-isms, fvck. Like i can tolerate to an extent when manga pulls nasty shit it’s unfortunately too entrenched in the medium but at least let it be known early on and not drop it when I’m actually invested 😭. This has genuinely soured by enjoyment of the series

Also the reviews calling Dunward a “sexy vampire” lol lol sorry but I don’t find bigots/misogynists sexy

The little backstory segment for Angela was fun if a bit meandering. But damn those demon designs were sick as hell they felt straight out of Berserk. Another thing I liked is Oscar’s character he confirmed something about the nature of [REDACTED] that I suspected, so he was a nice addition. Oscar bby get a different partner lol drop that incel bloodsucker 😂 you deserve better!

TW: Gore, violence, body horror and disgusting misogynistic attitudes.
