Satya

Rate this book
Satya was created by a certified children's yoga teacher and mother of two, Amanda Daley, owner of www.PowerfulChild.com. She created the story with preschool age children in mind, but it is relatable to all. The story takes a look at the relationship we have with our inner voice. The inner voice, represented by the character Himsa (Sanskrit word for harm), whispers defeating words to Satya (the Sanskrit word for truth) causing her to lose touch with her truth. It is through mindfulness meditation that Satya is finally able to acknowledge Himsa's voice is not her own, and counter the defeating thoughts with positive affirmations.

Satya was brought to life by the artwork of Jennifer Kasitz, owner of the online art studio www.CityBirdArt.com, and mother of three. The illustrations are original hand painted watercolors that depict the journey from oppression to freedom. Images begin simply, calling focus to Himsa’s oppressive presence, center stage in Satya’s world. Illustrations then shift to a richer life experience for Satya where her passions and interests fill her life, pushing Himsa’s voice to background noise, where it belongs. Images in the second half of the book show the beauty of freedom and the peaceful strength of living in the truth that mindfulness gives. These later illustrations allowed Jen the opportunity to incorporate meaningful images, representing special relationships in her life for which she is eternally grateful.

This book is appropriate for school settings, yoga studios, work with a guidance counselor or coach, and of course to use right at home with our children. Satya was originally told through yoga movement. A list of yoga poses is included in the book if the reader would like to incorporate them into the storytelling. However, the book can stand alone. This story is designed to be just long enough to keep the attention span of our littlest ones, and leaves lots of space for discussion with our older children. Satya is a beautiful book sure to tug at your heart strings and open the door for you and your children to draw closer to awareness and peace.

Wonderfully written and illustrated

So glad that this book was written to help build self-esteem in a society that can beat down young people. Bringing in yoga poses adds a special touch. Loved this book and can’t wait to share with my grandsons.
