A billionaire looking for a change and a woman who wants nothing to do with him. Can he convince her that he’s more than money?
Hudson Jennings wants to get away from the world of business his father is trying to trap him in. He’s seen what it’s done to his family, and to his ailing mother. Why not buy a house in a small town and move far away from it all?
Shannon Kendrick is graduating college after six long years of putting herself through school and working at a country club. She’s ready to start her career and help people that are less fortunate. When she meets a guy who has it all and he’s rude to her, she chalks it up to being a rich, entitled, son of a billionaire.
When Hudson needs to host an event, he is paired with Shannon to make the necessary preparations. She can’t stand the sight of him, but her spunky personality and determination to do the right thing sparks a light in Hudson that he hasn’t known before. He wants to know more about her, but he also wants to protect her from the life he leads.
Shannon begins to see a different side of Hudson than she first expected. But she won’t let herself get too close to a life of wealth that has caused her pain in the past.
Hudson will have to decide if he’s man enough to stand up to his father, and Shannon will have to choose whether to believe in Hudson or let him go.
If you like sweet romance stories full of faith and compelling storylines, you’ll love Hannah Jo Abbott’s Sweet Home Billionaire Series.
Romance has always been a favorite genre of mine, but these days finding sweet and wholesome romance without the extra... scenes (NOT NEEDED)... is tough. So this find is a treasure for me.
The characters felt REAL. As if I could reach into the pages to touch their lives and feel their pain & joy as they navigated unsure pathways. Had times where I literally snort-laughed (fam still gave me strange looks, but didn’t ask if I was choking. I’ve almost got them used to it. Heh.) And times where I cried. There is beauty and hope within these pages that took my heart and put it through a wringer and then plumped it back up with a heavy dosing of love and HEA.
All in all, would recommend to all ages for a sweet read filled with life, laughter, joy, and hope. Going to read book two now.
Hudson is a billionaire who works in the family business with his father. Tired off the busy city life, he decides to relocate to a small town. He meets Shannon, a waitress at the local diner but his grouchy attitude doesn't make the best first impression. When Shannon steps into a party planning role temporarily, she finds herself working on an event for Hudson. At first, they don't get along but after spending time together they find out there is more to the other one than they first thought. Their bond may grow into something deeper but they come from two different worlds. Can they ever make it work with different dreams and goals?
I listened to this as an audiobook. It was a sweet story that dealt with some heavier issues. Seeing the characters go through tough life moments made their bond stronger. I liked how both characters had to follow through on what was best for them and figure things out on their own before they could work out the relationship. I don't think this book stood out in any way and it felt fairly predictable. However, it was still enjoyable and exactly what I expected it to be. Overall, a good read but not all that memorable.
I guess waitresses are all kinds of personalities every day, but Shannon always puts on her best smile when she heads out to wait on the country club's dinners. Unfortunately, her new customer won't even look at her and gets testy after she's tried several times to engage him in conversation. She finally chalked him up to just being very rude! Life isn't going too well for him, either. His mom seldom record him and his dad is pressuring him to come back to NYC and take over running the family company. Both are leaving him unsettled and unhappy. Life happens and she is tasked with helping him plan a charity event. You're left to wonder if they'll be able to work together based on past experiences. You'll want to hang around and enjoy this well written and delightful book.
It is the beginning of a series. It is a clean, Christian romance.
This was a great story. It was about someone who is a Christian and a new Christian. Shannon has had a good life and is very happy. Hudson moves to the small town where Shannon lives. She ends up working with Hudson on a fundraiser in his mom’s honor. He is caught between caring for his ill mom and heading back to New York to take part in his father’s business. He’s caught between two places. Can they figure it out?
This was a great story. It does touch on loss. The characters are believable. I like that it talks of Christ and is clean.
Hudson starts out extremely un likable and Shannon is sweet enough to be everyone’s best friend, sweet but with enough spunk and speaking her mind you like her from the start.
As you get to know Hudson he’s really a nice guy in a really bad spot with his mother’s stroke and memory loss and his fathers only concern being their business conglomerate. Page 180 did me in and I was reaching for the tissues!
Great story of forgiveness, second chances and Gods love. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Wow! I love the characters of Hudson & Shannon. A young woman who had set her mind to be able to help others. And a young man who knew his calling was to something other than what his father had planned. Thank you Ms. Hannah, a sweet hard decision making storyline only to return to the path God had planned. Thank you for being true to the grace of God! And for not being afraid to use His full name, Jesus Christ, Lord and Saviour! 🙌🙌🙌
This story captured my attention and I could not put it down. The main characters came from different worlds with different dreams for their lives. The story was well written and the characters were very true to life. I love depth of faith that was shared in the story. I know I will take more journeys with author. Thanks for this wonderful story.
A great story of 2 people living in separate worlds. They learned to live by faith & follow God's way. She began as a feisty waitress. Eventually she spoke up & told the guy he was rude & grumpy. That startled him into reviewing his behavior. He felt forced into a path he didn't like. He cared for his Mom & missed her after she passed away. Eventually they both find their path together, by faith.
Hannah Jo Abbott has written about Hudson, A billionaire who is so rude to his waitress, Shannon. Later she calls him out on it. He hates working for his father who says: " My way, or you're cut off.". Conflict is the theme of this book. How can Hudson and Shannon make it when they have different goals. Very good writing.
There are many so called Christian books that I have read recently that don’t even mention God. I loved this story, especially how the gospel was portrayed. I won’t say anything more because I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t read it yet.
This is similar in context to another book I had once read, but I suppose the idea of a Billionaire finding a home and love in a small town isn't unique, it's just how well the story is told. Yes, this was well worth the time it took to get to know the folks in Pine Haven Alabama.
Shannon works at the restaurant within the country club. First impressions Hudson does not make, he is unfriendly. But Shannon eventually likes him. Hudson warms up to her.
I am not a fan of 'billionaire' books, because they are so removed from normal life. This one is very readable, and points out, to some extent, the disadvantages of a privileged life and definitely the redemptive power of Jesus.
I loved this story but it was quite sad. I felt bad for Hudson losing both his mother and father in such a short time. I was happy that his father found God before he died though and that Hudson and Shannon got together.
I enjoyed this story about understanding what is most important in life. I enjoyed the differences between Shannon and Hudson based on their outlooks and upbringings. I enjoyed his appreciating her forthrightness when she tells Hudson that he is a bit grumpy and how things really go.
What a wonderful tale of love, loss, and redemption! I love this author's ability to bring the Lord to the heart of the story without being preachy - it's simply who the people are. Highly recommended!
New-to-me Christian author. I liked the idea of a fun romance but with Christian theme behind it. While the story was good, it didn’t have the heavy whit or sarcasm within the writing that I’ve come to love with many of the clean authors I read. It was a sweet story and faith was woven throughout. Shannon and Hudson relationship was cute but moved a bit slowly, ending much as you’d imagine.
I don't typically read Billionaire books.. just not my thing. But I am participating in a monthly reading challenge and the June challenge is to read a CF book that is a sub-genre you don't typically read. I kept seeing this book pop up in my FB feed. I have enjoyed past books by Hannah Jo Abbott, so decided to give it a try. It is book 1 in a series, but I wasn't planning to read the other.
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. So much so that I plan to continue on in the series and see how the next one fares.
A sweet book. The number of errors was a little distracting. Salvation by the sinner’s prayer described. I wouldn’t mind reading Pete’s story, Hometown Billionaire, but it’s lower on my TBR pile.
