What an amazing volume! We have the last fight between Senku and Ibara happening and Senku explains what his friends really did and then the way he encounters him and wins is something and only a mad scientist can do and then we have them getting the device and one step closer to finding the secrets but also new enemies in a way as we hear the Why-man whose voice resembles Senku but the most odd part is ..its coming from somewhere near but very far. But the next exploration of this crew begins: The MOON! Wait what?! As much as craziness that is, we have so many surprise character revivals and insane plans and an even greater adventure ahead: America! This manga is just in crazy territory which I love! The art is insanely good!

They are petrifying and reviving and petrifying and reviving so often it doesn't mean anything anymore... and they only just got the tech! Now we might actually start exploring... sort of... maybe? I guess? Who knows anymore, we haven't had a real science fact for half this arc and I don't miss them but I also don't see what the purpose of this series is if we're not actually using science to do anything. It feels like there aren't any stakes now.

I'm just happy that Tsukasa is finally revived! Eek! AND THEY'RE FLYING TO THE MOON!! By the way, why-man identity is sus, I'm thinking about something harry potter-like theory here—AND THAT HUG! IS MY SHIP FINALLY SAILING?! SENHAKU SHIPPER HERE. I CAN'T WAIT, I'D BE HERE SCREAMING ABOUT IT!!

The ending of this arc and third saga in general was great in my opinion. The next saga is about learning the truth of the petrification. I love how Ryusui kept getting petrified and revived. After receiving a new message from Whyman (the mysterious voice who kept saying why), and learning that the message is coming from the Moon, the gang decides to travel around the world, gather materials and make it to the Moon. The first destination is America.

Honestly I felt like the fighting with Ibara might’ve dragged on a bit too long, I do like how much shit Senku had to pull during it though. Glad to see Tsukasa back on the team, feels way too sudden though how quickly he changed his mind on killing people (like I’d at least expect him to hang on to those beliefs a little bit longer). Really glad the crack designs are coming back (Gen and Tsukasa especially looked so barren without them). Really interested in what the hell’s going on with Why-Man

Ginro was extra funny in this one. I'm cheering for him. Senku's next science project is really exciting. Can't wait to get my hands on the next volume!

I love that, within seconds, Kirisame can just tell that Senku and Kohaku are best friends and not lovers despite Gen's lie.

I also look at Senku and immediately clock him as aro-ace, so I am just inclined to love that interpretation of him.

Gen deciding that everyone should keep their cracks until the day they defeat the threat was so perfect to me. Also, I'd miss seeing everyone's crack designs if they were gone for good.

Last note: I was screaming when Ryusui brought up Drago in the ending part. My dear Ryusui... you are going to get yourself killed.

i think if boichi doesn’t draw a pretty, tall, & lean male character with long black hair and ridiculously long bottom eyelashes every couple of chapters, he falls over in an epic coughing fit and almost dies

The petrification device was acquired, but the truth about worlwide petrification still far away to be revealed. Its now the time to go to the moon, where maybe the real device could be found

Me encanta Dr. Stone.

The end of the treasure island arc and act 1 of the spaceship materials arc.

The climax of the duel between senku & Ibarra is well done. Stakes are maxed as everyone else has already been petrified. Momentum swings back and forth and the characters are pushed to the limit. They both use clever ploys which exploit the previously established characteristics of the Medusa device as well as previously established resources — no deus ex machina here.

The decisive maneuvers unfold over a matter of seconds, as the combatants engage in a tug-o’-war for control of the Medusa. Senku times releasing the rope so that the device will recoil and blast Ibarra. But Ibarra blocks the attack with his hat, petrifies Ryusui, and recovers the Medusa, seeming to have won the battle. Yet senku has one more trick. He activates the device remotely using the radio-earring (attached to the device by Ryusui just before) and petrifies Ibarra.

So, a satisfying battle.

The denouement is quick and perfunctory. Team Senku has acquired platinum for infinite revivals and the Medusa to heal Tsukasa.

The heroes next intercept a broadcast from why-man that originates on the moon and, with this critical bit of information (the inciting incident for the new arc), decide to build a space ship. To accomplish this goal, they need resources from around the globe, starting with America. So the arc will be an odyssey with a series of self-contained adventures, similar to One Piece.

The plot of Dr.stone is simple and linear, with few subplots or secondary mysteries and no ongoing villains. That leaves readers with little to ponder or anticipate.

The big cast of characters is reduced to either cheerleading senku or following his orders without question. And why would they, senku is never wrong.

Any attempts at intra-party conflict are abortive. Hyoga, Tsukasa, and Matsukaze hint at conflict but it goes nowhere. And it would be boring anyway, a repeat of stone wars.

Emotional / character arcs are minimal. Soyuz becomes island chief but he’s s a non-entity.

Ahead is the voyage to America, which promises boredom. Man v. Nature conflicts generally do. There is no particular reason to fear what awaits in america either. Maybe it’s inhabited by an empire of cannibals or killer robots, but I doubt it.

Volume 16 was an absolute banger. The battle of wits between Senku and Ibara was one of the best parts. Watching them constantly try to outsmart each other had me glued to the pages.

But the moment that gave me full-body goosebumps was when the comms finally came back online. Hearing the main village again was so emotional and then the signal gets hijacked by the WHY-Man. With that chilling voice that sounds just like Senku saying, “12.8 million meters, 1 second”? And the illustration of that mysterious figure who looks like Senku?? Pure chills.

This is the second time the WHY-Man has shown up, and the mystery around him just keeps getting deeper. And now we know he’s on the moon?! It’s insane, but weirdly makes sense in the world of Dr. Stone. Also, the reveal that there are multiple petrification devices and that Matsukaze, a brand new character, witnessed them all fall from space and later all being destroyed except one was such a smart detail. Keeping just one shows how seriously powerful and dangerous these weapons are.

And then Tsukasa is back. MY BOY RETURNS!! Seeing him join the Kingdom of Science made me unbelievably happy. One of the most powerful moments, though, was learning that the last petrification device had just enough energy left to revive him and now it's dead. That added a real sense of finality and weight. There's no more second chances with that tech... at least for now.

Now the crew’s heading out to gather resources from around the world to build a spaceship to go to the moon. And their first destination? America. This series just keeps leveling up in scale and hype.

Volume 16 easily earns a 5/5 from me. It’s one of my absolute favorites in the entire series so far.

Based on the dire straits from last volume, everyone put their hope into the main character & his overall genius to get them out of the pickle.
Of course he did, and in the process, beat the tyrannical Jafar-knockoff and figured out a little bit of how the evil Medusa-effect doohickey works. Too bad it's pretty much out of juice now and only had enough charge left in it to petrify the first big bad in the hope to heal him from his mortal wounds. It worked, and now he's on the side of good...we hope...

Because radio waves are a funny thing, they managed to pick up a mysterious transmission from, of all places, THE MOON!
So these people who just barely got out of the caveman stage are now aiming to make a rocket to get to the big ol green cheese in the sky!
What could possibly go wrong?!
...
They're gonna need more supplies and stuff that can't be found in Japan, so now the crew are off on a whirlwind world tour to get the raw materials they need to get into the space race!
...
FIRST STOP IS AMERICA TO GET CORN!
AND I MUST LAUGH, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO GO TO AMERICA TO GET CORN!! (it makes sense in context, but still. CORN!)

You, me, everyone... We're all doomed to die and turn to dust... But our hopes and dreams get passed down and polished, connecting us to the future. That's what humanity calls Science, right?

What a beautiful ending to the first part of the story! Senku's monologue of how much has happened (more than three years) and how things have changed is a pun to the reader, who has traveled along with him. Now, it all comes back to that first dream: "I'm going to space".

Inspiring!

The mystery of the Petrification device grows deeper as we get another cool from where it came from and the reveal was actually kind of funny. And that is something I love about the series is how Senku is optimistic even if his goal is seemingly impossible like going to the moon. Seeing Senku and Tsukasa reunite and Tsukasa willing to work under Senku was really cool and a good development for someone like Tsukasa.

4/5 Volume 16 wraps up the Petrification Kingdom Arc. Culminating in Senku’s final confrontation with Ibara. I enjoy this series the characters are great as is the art. But man sometimes I feel like they are really flying through certain parts of the story.

The route has been set the crew is now on its way to America and then eventually the moon to confront the big bad Why-Man.

Senku & Tsukasa on the cover of volume 16.
