The Fabulous Leif & Lyle

Rate this book
Fifteen-year-old Lyle and his boyfriend Leif are popular in school—or, so they believe.

One day, Leif discovers that his adorable basset hound, Mister Metaxas, has been kidnapped and the ransom note indicates that not everyone is happy about gay kids at school.

As the investigation begins to get back Mister Metaxas, the list of suspects mount. Thankfully, Leif and Lyle have a few good friends and very supportive families, because they will not only uncover the truth about why someone would kidnap Mister Metaxas, but also discover a lot of things that will surprise them, too.

Oh, and being heroes will be a bonus!

I wish there had been books like this when I was growing up.

Times really have changed. When I was at school, it was against the law for teachers to even talk about homosexuality. Growing up gay was hard and I had no one to talk to, no internet to ask google and no literature to find inspiration.

Today, I've just finished reading Leif and Lyle. The story of two teenagers proudly out at school. It's beautiful and brilliantly written and more than anything, I hope it helps young people. The world may have moved on so we can actually live in a world where these books exist, but that doesn't mean it's all sunshine and unicorns. The LGBTI community is still fighting for equal rights all across the globe. It's not easy growing up, realising you're gay.

Leif and Lyle is a great read and I look forward to reading more by Clyde Andrews in the future.

*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.*

I've never read anything from this author before, so I wasn't entirely sure of what to expect. But once I started reading, I found myself finishing it in almost one sitting.

I was delighted to find it was the most charming and adorable story involving two 15 yr. old guys, Leif and Lyle, who are boyfriends.

They suddenly find themselves in the middle of a mystery. Someone has kidnapped Leif's dog, and they need to quickly figure out what's going on so that they can rescue his dog.

Before I knew it, I was also caught up in this little whodunit. Who was the culprit? Why did it happen? Unfortunately, they're soon made aware that not everyone in the school is tolerant of gay kids. Could this be part of what's going on?

Did I mention it's funny? Well, it definitely is. The boys find themselves in some hilarious (and at times quite awkward) situations.

And as for who did it? It might not be who you think it is...

Tucked into the pages of this cute romance/mystery, you'll also find a powerful message about ACCEPTANCE. Of everybody. No matter what they look like, dress like, or what their sexual preference is.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet and cleverly written book. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I was excited to see that it's going to be part of a series. I can't wait for the next one.

Hopefully, I won't have to wait too long...

My heart may have exploded at this one. This was a perfect YA story of two 15 year olds finding love and an adventure at the same time.

There were so many things to love about Leif and Lyle, but I just swooned over their hand holding language. It's little quirks like this that Clyde Andrews adds to his stories that just make you feel like you are a part of them. They grab onto you and keep you wanting more. So, it's just perfect that we get an new story each month!!

This book has something for everyone. There's mystery, friendship, intrigue, a very sweet dog, and a blooming relationship. I loved every single character and felt like I was part of the group, trying to figure out who was behind the mystery.

Give it a try, you'll be glad you did!

I’ve read several books written by Clyde Andrews and I’m never disappointed! I received an ARC of The Fabulous Adventure of Leif & Lyle. This story lives up to the best of what Clyde Andrews writes! Leif and Lyle are navigating high school with all the troubles and insecurities that holds. But it’s made even harder when Leif’s basset hound, Mister Metaxas is kidnapped!

Clyde writes engaging and diverse characters with honesty. His characters reach into my heart and never let go.

Super Cute

This was a sweet adorable story about two teenage boys, who are dating, trying to locate a missing dog. It’s very positive and something we need more of in literature. Looking forward to reading not only the next installment but Clyde’s other books.

Awesome Read!

An incredible read by an incredible author! Clyde Andrews breathes life into all his characters.

In this book we have Leif and Lyle as the main characters who have grown up together and been best buds all that time. They attend the local high school Preston High. A dog-napping gives them their first mystery case.

Along the way, our sleuths encounter all kinds of high school attendees, including the jocks, cheerleaders, geeks and nerds, bullies, friends, principal, creepy teacher, etc. This book also has the accepting parents, and the not-so-nice parents.

What initially was one mystery has become more than that, but no spoilers from me!

One final comment:
I need to read more about Jasper and Austin. I fell in love with those characters immediately! Even when Jasper was.... Spoilers!

Loved this book and cannot wait to read more! Thank you! 🥰

This is one of those annoying YA books where the characters sound much younger than they are. At least, I hope they're older than they sound. 11 or 12 yr olds don't have this much sex, right?

It started out meh and I was plugging on through it though I didn't really care much about anything. Then, about halfway through, a mom outs her son's boyfriend to his evil homophobic parents. But it's ok because she lets him stay with them when his parents kick him out. And now he is "free" to be himself. Gag.

It is NEVER okay to out someone like this. Never. I can't believe I have to say it. That's when I DNF'd.
