OMG, no!!! I need more!!😭😍💗 It just keeps getting better and better.
Silly ol' me used to think that I had a bad high school experience. Yeah, me and probably the other 94,6%, you will say. But you know what, Sawyer? I think you win that prize. I don't know if you should or would ever want to wear the title proudly but there's no way it'll go unnoticed, that's for sure. Then again - and you can call me crazy on this one - if it came with the (small/huge/non-existent - still pondering, not really) benefit of crossing Colson Hayes path, I'd still go through it all, barefoot.
We're back at Freemont High and I literally feel like I've been walking these halls for forever now; everything feels so familiar. It's like I've been hovering over Sawyer's shoulder this entire time, clutching my books to my chest, waiting for the next hiccup that disturbs the apparent peace; the next shift that changes everything, yet again.
Only now - as Colson would put it - it's Sawyer 2.0 taking the reins; she's fighting back. She's not going down without one.
Colson is being his asshole-y self, as per usual, only this time you might not even mind it all that much. Don't get me wrong: he still gets on your nerves profusely and leaves you dizzy and flustered all at the same time, in this unnerving way. The thing is, you start to see a whole new side of him, and his perspective on things: there's always a deeper meaning behind his sometimes puzzling behavior. He's not a rebel without a cause; the motive exist only a) he isn't aware of it at first, b) later he doesn't want to acknowledge and c) after all is said and done, he just refuses to believe and give in to the fact that said motive still holds that much power and meaning.
Downplaying the obvious won't get you very far, Hayes, I think you're beginning to see that.
It's an endless chase, the eternal cat and mouse game, only thing is they both fear the metaphorical mouse trap that is...
the truth.
They're growing close and the lines are blurring. And that's when things get... interesting... and complicated... and hot.
The chemistry between then can be seen and felt from across the field and through every single page of this book.
We are left with yet so many questions that we need answers to and a cliffhanger that although is completely warranted and not too, too hard on your mind, body, heart and soul, it manages to keep you on the edge of your seat, because you just know that there's no way you're going to miss THAT: what comes next begs to wait just a tinsy, tiny bit and after, all will have been worth it.
I'm in love with Hazel Grace:
• the alternating chapters between the past and the present are just genius and phenomenally well done.
• the plot keeps thickening; how does she even do that?
• these slow, smooth changes: the special brand of slow burn she's currently delivering will quiet possibly be the death of me.
• her beautiful and captivating writing style: her original story ideas, her unique characters and their twisted or questionable morals are everything.
• her men: I know I talked about Wyatt before and Colson is our current topic of conversation, but can we please take a second to talk about Jake? Uhm, yes I'd like some of that. He's warming his way into my heart and I have zero problems with that.
In resume, please do yourself a favor and YES, read Strike and continue this journey with Colson and Sawyer that, if you're anything like me, you won't forget anytime soon.
